My history grade was a solid A, my math grade on the other hand was a C-. It wasn’t till the end of the second week that I had realized that there was a possibility I would not pass or make it on the final trip. I started having some very awful stress attacks, I would hyperventilate and could not focus on anything. Luckily for me I had some amazing people in my life at that moment. All the Upward Bound staff, my friends, and teachers were helping me out as much as they could. Every time I would want to give up they wouldn’t let me. They believed in me more than I believed in myself. Especially one of my favorite tutors, whose name is JB. He is one of the smartest person’s I have ever met in my life! JB believed in me more than anyone else.
The biggest failure I experienced was back during my Sophomore year. The hardest class in the high school was AP World History in which the requirements were hours of homework a night. Many people tried to convince me not to take the course due to the fact that it is considered the hardest class in the high school. My mom tried her hardest to try and persuade me to take a different class but I felt that it was a requirement for me to take it to prove to the colleges that I was up for the task and that I was prepared to do the work necessary to succeed in college. The course required reading a whole chapter in the text book in three days and take a quiz to prove that we read and understood the topics. This is where I struggled the most because memorizing the chapters and the major topics was very difficult unlike others who could recited the
Unfortunately, I would not be making it to your America history 102 class today, due to some unexpected family situation. Hopefully by next week class I will be somewhat caught up. Also, I recently had a situation with my midterm essay, I spend almost two to three hours typing the essay at Kalamazoo Valley Community College (TTC) in the computer center and when I was about to be finished, I assumed I saved the paper so I exit it out and after my wellness class I had gone back to the computer center and I had noticed my midterm essay was not in my document folder. There was nothing I and the computer staff can do, so now I am currently typing a whole knew midterm essay, and since I have a horrible memory I am not sure what I wrote about the
When I was first hired I was told I would have 30 days from the start day to sign up for benefits. The date by which I had to sign up by was 03/20/16 a Sunday; I tried to get on, on the 03/18/16, but it would not let me. I called the helpline to get my password reset to gain access to the online portal; whenever I received access it said there were no available sessions for enrollment. My manager informed me to come in on Saturday 03/19/16 and he would help me further, he was not able to locate it either. He then informed me to make a benefits appeal, because I had tried to get enrolled before the cutoff date. I have two pictures, to show the information that was displayed and the date. Thank you for your time and
The final weeks of my first semester in college are coming to an end. My Columbus State english class has written a total of three projects, and a total of four papers. There are a lot of grammatical issues that, at the beginning of the year, I had issues on. However, I have improved on these errors drastically, and have become a better writer because of it. Even though I am still working on many aspects of my writing, I do believe that I have become a better writer. I believe that my biggest issues while writing are run on sentences, making a strong thesis statement, and having quotes stand alone at the beginning of a paragraph.
When one enrolls into an honors or advanced English class, there are many worries that come to mind. These worries create thoughts such as ‘Am I a good writer?’, ‘Will I pass?’, or ‘How do I even start a paper?’. My teachers never specifically taught me to write. My teacher that I had for 9th grade English and my 10th grade honors English class always gave good grades. Once I got into my first AP English class, I felt as though my writing was inferior. In my distress, I went to the internet and I found that you do not have to be gifted in academic writing to get good grades on your essays, I found that organization is the key to writing a powerful essay.
I walked into room 160 and saw a group of anxious 14 year olds, waiting for the lady we had all heard so much about to walk in. Rumors about her ranged from “she will make you cry daily” to “she’s basically the human form of a fire breathing dragon”. When the bell rang, we all prepared for the worst. The small lady that walked in, with short brown hair and glasses too big for her face did not look nearly as intimidating as all the stories suggested, which was comforting on that first day of class. This was Mrs. Carballo, my AP US History teacher. She started our first day off by talking about the summer reading and our objectives for the year. By the time the second week rolled around, I felt pretty comfortable with the course...that is, until we all received books that were almost bigger than we were!
“Your final exam will be in three parts: multiple choice, primary source analysis, and three major essays. I won’t be allowed within 2 miles of you when you take the exam.” The words of Mr. F, my AP US History teacher, reverberated between my ear drums. He either didn’t notice or didn’t seem to care: “The AP US History exam will be on a Saturday in mid May. It’s graded on a scale of 0 to 5. Zero being the lowest possible score, 5 being the highest.” A student in the front row raises her hand, interrupting our baptism by fire. Mr. F motions for her to speak.
The first semester of my sophomore year I’ve decided to take the AP European History class so it made my first semester kind of difficult, it required for me to do more work that involved reading. This AP European class has helped me grow as a student to communicate ideas, for example my group and I were assigned a scientist and we had to present to the class why our scientist was so important. I have also grown as a student in investigating the world in my English class, we read different articles based on different cases from people around the world.
In this class, I have learned many new skills to improve my writing, and I have also learned new grammar rules. In regards to my writing, I have learned the importance of freewriting when beginning to write a paper. Additionally, I now know to allow ample time for revising and editing because I can look at my work critically for mistakes and make necessary changes. Furthermore, I have learned about grammar rules such as pronoun-antecedent agreement. This rule is something that I know subconsciously, but being made aware of it has allowed me to find mistakes I make more often.
An assignment one, the personal narrative will be revised for the assignment five because I thought I did well on it, but I got the lowest grade. I also knew that I didn't prepare it well enough as it could have been. Plus, I feel like I could get a better grade if I spend more time on it because I like writing about myself, my experience.
I believe I have grown a lot since the beginning of this course. My writing was severely lacking grammar and punctuation. I didn’t use any punctuation other than periods and very few commas spersed throughout my papers. My papers still need help in that area, but I have improved. I now know where they need to go and when it’s appropriate to use them. My papers aren’t exactly flawless but they are better than before. I would write how I speak at times and I knew it wasn’t right, but I would still do it because it allowed my papers to flow better in my mind. I read my papers out loud to help avoid my problem with writing how I speak. I’ve learned my writing style in this course, or lack thereof. I found a program that would benefit me now and
I spoke in public when I was in high school, 11th grade. I had to present about America and Vietnam war without using the note in my history class. However, I was little shy and scare that people will laugh at me because I cannot speak fluently English, even I was practice a lot at home and in my free times. In that moment I thought that I will give up. But, when I hear my friend’s presentation I feel like there are two person talking inside of me. One is motived me to go and the other one is not. At that time, I choose to step up and speak in front of my class because I know that I cannot hide behind my back forever so I motivated myself that I have to win the afraid in me. After that time, I have more experience, and in 12th grade I spoke
We where working on a fifth grade group project. In a crowd of about four other peers, we worked well together, until we were almost done. I didnt really select the group, they just chose me in theirs. One day they were in the hall to finish other school work while it was time to work on the project. I decided there wasnt much left to be done on it. The paragraphs and pictures were neatly printed out and pasted on the poster board, the lettering was drawn on it, and all there was left to do was to color it. So I did. When they came back, they crowded around the project and yelled at me. They took the poster and tore the pictures and paragraphs off. I couldnt do anything but watch. They were so willing to have me in there group, but not
I have truly enjoyed writing for most of my life and after this class I will continue to enjoy writing hopefully with more skill. I have always viewed myself as a fairly strong writer and this class has reaffirmed that for me, but it has also shown weaknesses in my writing. As an introduction level class this has been one of my favorites; at some point I will take a higher level, even though it is not required for my major. Even though this class is almost over I am continuing to learn. I also love that this class will help me with literally ever other class in my college career. I am not a particularly strong reader, but as my writing skills improve so do the reading skills. While in this class I have learned a lot about everything from what I can improve, to subjects that interest me, and constructing a successful paper.
The ambulance pulled up to get me, Johnny, and Dally out of the burning house. Johnny was in really bad conditions because of the burning house he was in. We were rushed to the hospital so we could get help. Then, my to brother came in and hugged me because they missed me and I missed them to. Then, he took me home because I was really tired and didn’t need to stay in the hospital because I was not burned that bad like Johnny, and Dally. The next morning I got up and cooked food for Darry, and Sodapop. Then, Steve and Two-bit came in and made fun of my hair and made me drop the food that I cooked for my brothers. Then, after they ate we went to fight in the rumble and we won. Then, they took me to see Johnny. I told him that we
