Christmas, birthdays, Sunday dinners, and even on thanksgiving the dinner table is not complete until one famous family dish arrives. They can be smelled as soon as you enter the door and they make your mouth water with one glance. Homemade Italian meatballs covered in marinara sauce and sprinkled with parmesan cheese. I cannot recall any significant day with my family that my mother did not prepare her homemade meatballs. My Italian family believes meatballs and pasta should be feasted on at every family event. Whether they are accompanied by baked ziti, lasagna, spaghetti, ravioli, or linguini the meatballs are never missing.
The meatball tradition is deeper than just a tray of round meaty deliciousness for me. The pure bliss of my mother
Within my family tree there are two characteristics that catch my eye; perseverance and determination.“With perseverance and determination anything is possible”( Kelly Landolfi ). Even though my family is small, most of them have the trait of perseverance including my mom, Kelly; my dad, Louis; 5 my grandpa Dennis and last but definitely not least Kylie, me. Determination means to... “continue in a course of action, even in the face of difficulty or with little or no prospect of success.” All the Landolfi family have the same qualities of perseverance and determination.
Distinct Italian Culture is composed of community living, festivals, family living, and commemorations, etiquette practices, also economic, innovative and administrative components.
For me personally, I love Italian food because of how much Italian’s appreciate the dinner table. What I mean by “appreciating
Their menu consisted of a hearty roux based seafood gumbo made with the protein ingredients of shrimp, oysters, crabs, smoked sausages, andouille, and turkey necks. In addition to the robust gumbo, the table must be laden with ham, bread dressing, and cranberry sauce. Mama required finest ham for her Thanksgiving dinner; she chose Schott’s ham from the Chisesi Brothers in New Orleans. She would boil the ham and then bake it with a nice glaze, and dress it with pineapples and cherries. Mama’s bread dressing is still the absolute best, when the family gets together, it is definitely declared as a must have. She would brown ground meats (pork and beef) and gizzards, then take a loaf of French bread and soften it up with some water and add it to the mixture. This bread dressing would be fried in the skillet until the texture and color matched Mama’s liking. The whole house became a
Which must be served on with carrots and of course, ranch. I remember lasagna being a family made meal, my mother makes the the noodles. My step-dad layered the ingredients and I sat on the counter and ate cottage cheese. There were also my famous frenchiladas, made by me in my pink and white play kitchen in the basement. They were also only for my Tofer, while he would watch T.V. I can’t quite remember why I called them frenchiladas, I have always assumed that I meant enchiladas, or maybe French enchiladas, couldn’t tell you why. Only that they were basement famous.
Santiago de los Caballeros, that’s where my family is from in the Dominican Republic. Everything about it warms my heart just as much as its vicious sun does penetrating your pores until you’re almost sure they aren’t there anymore. My father’s side of the family had just come down from the Capitol, which is known to be ignorant and high maintenance despite being from a third world country. The Dominican air smelled earthy and damp, yet you could feel its purity in the pit of your lungs. We decided to sit down at a food truck area and eat the signature post-club, pre-hangover, Dominican sandwich: The Chimmichurri. It is nowhere near as disgusting as it sounds, I promise. As we made ourselves comfortable in our plastic chairs beside The Monument, we had a complete view of the lights scattered like a den of fireflies illuminating the city. I was lost within the laughter you find yourself in after one too many Red Rock sodas when our Haitian server approached us. He kept reading the menu off to us and I fell in love
Pasta. Go for the pasta al forno – baked rigatoni with meatballs, sopressata, ricotta, mozzarella, sliced egg & tomato
The documentary “The Italian Americans: La Famiglia” explains the circumstances that led to early Italians migrating to America. In the mid-1800s, the people who lived in the southern part of what would become Italy were living in abject poverty. The citizens there could not prosper because they did not own their own land and they were mistreated by the rich (Maggio, 2014). However, there appeared to be hope for the southern Italians, in the 1860s, when Garibaldi fought for Italy to become a nation. Sadly, once that happened the peasants were then forced to pay taxes that they already could not afford.
We set up a large table for the food. By dinner time the table is filled with different foods from American to Mexican to even Italian. We all gather around the table to say grace, and propose a toast. Then we all line up to get food. I always try to get a little bit of everything, this way I know what everything tastes like and what to get for seconds. Last year one of my aunts made Mexican smoked barbecue ribs. I couldn't stop eating them, they were amazing! They were seasoned with her very own rub which consisted of plain slat, garlic, and cayenne pepper. They had this beautiful reddish glazed look, I just couldn't
Italy is very different then America. I didn’t picture Italy anything like that in my mind before I went. There wasn’t very many grocery stores, I didn’t find one until the third day that I was there. The buildings are very close together and I thought that everything looked the same from the outside and were very difficult to tell apart from one another. But when I happened to find the store, inside wasn’t big at all, the stores were called “mini marts.” It wasn’t really for kids but there isn’t many kids in Italy to begin with. Mostly it was an in and out kind of store. I wasn’t sure what kind of things were their popular items, so it was difficult to tell how they organized the stuff. One store that I went into, had lights around the selves
In Ann Radcliffe's "The Italian", the very first thing that we see described is a veiled woman: "It was in the church of San Lorenzo at Naples, in the year 1758, that Vincentio di Vivaldi first saw Ellena di Rosalba. The sweetness and fine expression of her voice attracted his attention to her figure, which had a distinguished air of delicacy and grace; but her face was concealed in her veil. So much was he fascinated by the voice, that a most painful curiosity was excited as to her countenance, which he fancied must express all the sensibility of character that the modulation of her tones indicated" (5).Even without knowing anything about Gothic elements, this indicates very clearly what the quality and tone of the
History is defined as the study of the science of humanity in the past. It's a broad subject that spans over countless people groups throughout the years that the world has been around. Even before the times we have written word history was still being made, and it is still extremely important. We tend to forget that in our average day to day lives we are still making history. That all over the globe everyone is taking part in what might be in a history book someday.
My favorite food is chicken fettuccini pasta. I prefer this dish because of the great taste. It consists of a magnificent sauce, tender chicken, and mixed vegetables. This blend of ingredients contributes the flavor, texture, and appearances of the pasta.
Food is a central part of our culture as humans. It has a way of delivering an intimate experience through which people are connected and can share memories. Reflecting upon some of the most celebrated holidays in my life, there has been a central element that all of these occasions have in common, and that is the meal that is shared by my family, Lasagna.
The best meal you’ll ever eat is a fresh meatloaf. It’s a dish that’s been around for many of years and a lot of women make it when moms are in a rush and need a quick and easy dinner for the kids. Meat loaf is actually quite easy to make! All you need is hamburger it looks like brains or maybe even dog food the color is a mild pink. If you really want it flavorful at some spices their rough , strong, and sandy. Maybe add some ketchup the taste is bitter and a little sweet. You may even want to add some breadcrumbs their soft fluffy, buttery and the color is usually tan unless you burn it. Now I’m not one that likes to eat veggies but it just wouldn’t be complete without them the texture of them hard, crunchy, and their color bright red and
