At Mid-Valley, in my junior year, I had homeroom in the Biology lab. At Mid-Valley, most vo-tech students had Intermediate Algebra in their sophomore year, Biology in their junior year, and another mathematics course in their senior year. Most of the students in my homeroom had Biology first period. A few of us who had mathematics at vo-tech had Biology as sophomores, so our first period class was Chemistry.
The Biology lab was on the first floor next to the stairwell in the senior high school building. The Chemistry lab was on the third floor, above the Biology lab, therefore the Chemistry lab was also next to the stairwell. Most students in the building had their homeroom teacher for their first period class, so between homeroom and
Anatomy and Physiology during my sophomore year of high school that I realized science, specifically
Upon starting my freshman year in high school, I had been in honors Biology, and it quickly became my least favorite subject. Biology was something I couldn’t understand, no matter how much
During a students’ undergraduate years, at a four-year university, the student will take any and all available science and mathematics courses. This includes but not limited to, algebra, calculus, physics, chemistry, organic chemistry, zoology, biology and animal anatomy and physiology.
During my 2012-2013 school year, I was enrolled as an eighth grader in Lindblom Math and Science Academy’s academic center. Being in the academic center meant that you would be offered some high school leveled classes in a high school setting as you completed your last years of elementary school. One of these classes, I like to refer to as the struggle, was biology.
First was science, science is a pretty easy classes to get by if you just pay attention. Mrs. Picchini will randomly call on you to answer questions. She will also grade homework assignments. Most graded homework is for completion, but some is for if you got the right answers or not. Next class for is is L.A. the teacher is Mr. Reynolds, again it is an easy class if you pay attention and do your work. You will have word of the days you have to do which are really easy if you do them. Also make sure you read your book you
I'm fully aware that I have not completed Chemistry 2, however, I have taken Chemistry 1 and I received a solid 100% in the class. I also have taken Honors Physical Science at Sylvania Northview as a Freshman. During the second semester, we focused solely on chemistry and we covered some of the following topics such as stoichiometry, density, nomenclature, balancing chemical equations, the periodic table, understanding nuclear energy, and atoms. In addition, I have also taken AP Biology and Honors Biology as well.
Taking biology in tenth grade allowed me to rekindle the ardor that had laid dormant for so long. As we discussed cellular biology, and intricate life processes I was able to remember why I loved life sciences so much growing up. Forgotten childhood dreams of becoming a scientist and studying anatomy flooded back to me as life science became exciting once
Sheppard and Robbins detail biology rise as a core subject in American high schools during the early twentieth century. Originally, students were enrolled in various courses such as natural history, zoology and botany with a generalized biology course not being developed until 1906. This new course would combine the elements of the courses previously noted, and textbooks were created to blend these elements into a following curriculum. Enrollment quickly increased, and by the mid-1930s zoology and botany were nearly eliminated as subjects. In turn, students began to learn more about advances such as genetics, biochemistry and other similar developments compared to students even a few years older than them. By World War II, more students received
Science is usually pretty nice. It easy and requires pretty little work. Really easy. The teacher only assigns 10 minutes of homework and we don’t have homework everyday. But then again, like every day, the bell rings. Usually I trudge to the locker room to changed, but these days, I have
2. What other science classes have you taken? Are planning to take next year? I have taken Living Environment, Chemistry, and Physics. I am going to take Ap Biology in 12th Grade.
As I began my descent down the middle school corridor, I was abruptly pulled aside by a teacher I did not recognize. She informed me of a science program, STARS, that would cram a whole year's worth of biology into my head in a mere two weeks. I looked into it and ultimately decided it would benefit my transition into my high school biology class. I woke up as I normally would for school and sat in 7 hour sessions at UT Southwestern over the the summer. The teachers taught us the science course we were to take once the summer was over.In the following summers they taught me chemistry and physics as well.
Similar to other academic fields, each specialty and subfield requires students to fulfill the basic prerequisite courses, such as chemistry, organic chemistry, and physics. Even if a student is not a chemistry or physics major, these courses are germane for true progression within the field. As a basis of comparison and experience, a government and international politics major could not succeed within their field nor career goals without a basic government 101 courses or an introduction to international relations course. Each subfield within biology focuses on mastering the four program goals in respect to their concentration, but not before mastery of the prerequisite courses that enable them to do
Both chemistry and biology classes provide lab work with equipment more advanced than what I utilized previously. While I enjoyed learning about the processes and watching reactions in my first chemistry classes, my microbiology lab remains by far my favorite college class. Growing cell cultures of bacteria, learning the vast diversity between species, and even determining the identity of an unknown bacteria made the trip to another corner of campus for a three hour long class every week well worth the effort.
The class that had the most science in it in my opinion was lights and lasers. I think this because it was related to what we talk about in science. We talked about all of the colors of the lights on the spectrum and about how if you block the connection from one side of the laser, the other side is unavailable to
