Coming back from school, I quickly gathered my homework given by the teachers of Dulles High School and sprinted out into nature – where the true source of life lies. After spreading out a blanket, I lied on my back squinting at the glaring sphere in the sky. A sense of tranquility exhumes from all the stress left in my body and soul. However, my sanctuary of final relaxation was interrupted by a swarm of mosquitoes hungry for my blood as I flew back indoors to safety.
Norman Schwarzkopf was one of the greatest leaders in American history. He was destined to be a leader of men from birth. Schwarzkopf was born on 22 August 1934 in Trenton, New Jersey. He grew up as an Army brat, living on bases all around the world. His father who is credited for the founding of the New Jersey state police, was honorably discharged from the army as a Brigadier General after had served in both World War I and World War II. Norman tried hard to follow in his father’s footsteps. Like his father, Norman graduated from West Point University in 1956 with a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering. While attending West Point he was a member of both the football and wrestling teams.
Unfortunately, I would not be making it to your America history 102 class today, due to some unexpected family situation. Hopefully by next week class I will be somewhat caught up. Also, I recently had a situation with my midterm essay, I spend almost two to three hours typing the essay at Kalamazoo Valley Community College (TTC) in the computer center and when I was about to be finished, I assumed I saved the paper so I exit it out and after my wellness class I had gone back to the computer center and I had noticed my midterm essay was not in my document folder. There was nothing I and the computer staff can do, so now I am currently typing a whole knew midterm essay, and since I have a horrible memory I am not sure what I wrote about the
The final weeks of my first semester in college are coming to an end. My Columbus State english class has written a total of three projects, and a total of four papers. There are a lot of grammatical issues that, at the beginning of the year, I had issues on. However, I have improved on these errors drastically, and have become a better writer because of it. Even though I am still working on many aspects of my writing, I do believe that I have become a better writer. I believe that my biggest issues while writing are run on sentences, making a strong thesis statement, and having quotes stand alone at the beginning of a paragraph.
Meena Isabella Shirazi, I have truly discovered what a best friend is through the many adventures we have had. Through every up through every down, you know I’ll always be around. There has never been a moment since we have become friends that you haven’t made me practically die of laughter from a joke you have made. I’ve never had someone that knows me like you do. You are the person I tell everything to and we practically do everything together. That is why you should audition for Dulles High School’s production of High School Musical.
He was walking onto the campus of his future college for the first time. “This is a place I can go. This is a place that I will enjoy.” He walked around with the name of the college echoing in his mind. “Case Western Reserve University. Case Western Reserve University.”
At a school in Texas called Hickory Hills middle school in 1999.It was a normal day for Timothy John he was stealing a nerds lunch.
I had just won first place in the oldest, most competitive sewing contest in the country! Something most people could only dream of had suddenly become my reality. So why wasn’t I happy? Why did I feel like I was being whisked off to prepare for the Hunger Games, groomed and fussed over by people who didn’t care about me?
When I first started thinking about college schools I never thought about going to MSU or Ole Miss. I wanted to go to the bigger universities, but I knew I wouldn’t do well if I went there my first year. My high school did not prepare me enough for University, and I hadn’t decided on a major either. I choose East Central Community College (ECCC) as the school I would go to for many reasons, and when I got here I knew I made the right choice.
When one enrolls into an honors or advanced English class, there are many worries that come to mind. These worries create thoughts such as ‘Am I a good writer?’, ‘Will I pass?’, or ‘How do I even start a paper?’. My teachers never specifically taught me to write. My teacher that I had for 9th grade English and my 10th grade honors English class always gave good grades. Once I got into my first AP English class, I felt as though my writing was inferior. In my distress, I went to the internet and I found that you do not have to be gifted in academic writing to get good grades on your essays, I found that organization is the key to writing a powerful essay.
I walked into room 160 and saw a group of anxious 14 year olds, waiting for the lady we had all heard so much about to walk in. Rumors about her ranged from “she will make you cry daily” to “she’s basically the human form of a fire breathing dragon”. When the bell rang, we all prepared for the worst. The small lady that walked in, with short brown hair and glasses too big for her face did not look nearly as intimidating as all the stories suggested, which was comforting on that first day of class. This was Mrs. Carballo, my AP US History teacher. She started our first day off by talking about the summer reading and our objectives for the year. By the time the second week rolled around, I felt pretty comfortable with the course...that is, until we all received books that were almost bigger than we were!
Yes! I am finally free! No more school! It’s June 9, 2017, and it’s graduation day. I am a graduating senior at The Greater Miami Youth Corps. There I was able to attend school and do well, after being asked to leave Booker T. Washington Senior High School due to repeatedly breaking school rules and getting in to trouble. Fortunately, The Youth Corps has been a saving grace for me. In the time that I have attended school there, my behavior has improved tremendously. I no longer skipped class and skipped class. At the Corps, the class size was much smaller than Booker T. and the teacher had more time to give each student a more hands-on approach. I liked it!
It was a Thursday evening when it all happened. Lady Titan Softball was at Tecumseh high school playing a conference game. Of course, this was my freshman year so varsity wasn’t exactly in my range. Winning the junior varsity game though, was just as important. We all knew this conference game was going to be a tough one, but we were willing to do anything to win.
RodFord High school was a big change for me and I didn’t have any classes with Lauren. The school had gray walls everywhere, I felt like I was in a jail really. Lauren and I were eating lunch one day when a group of girls started staring at me. I never seem to cause trouble but I stared back until one of the girls got up. The girl was: tall, skinny, redhead, big eyed and dresses in bright colors. She sat down in front of me and told me ‘What is your problem? Don’t you know staring is rude?’. I laughed in her face and told her, ‘you really need to go back to your table and not talk to me like that again’. That’s where my big change was, that redheaded girl made me lose my bestfriend.
When searching the word leadership one of the immediate synonyms to appear is control. To me, leadership is nothing about control. Leadership is accepting your role in any situation and still going above and beyond. Being someone who orders others around is not leading, it is dictating. Those getting out in front of others and working just as hard--if not harder--to set an example are true leaders. Leadership plays your strengths while still addressing your weaknesses. Acknowledging both sets up for success. In my life, I definitely have roles with set leadership titles. Although I have these titles, I try to act in ways that do not place me on a higher pedestal than the people I am surrounded by. I act as a humble leader because I know that I have not always been at the leadership level that I currently am. From dance, to student council, to link crew, my age does not give me automatic power. I am looked up to for my experience, but I am a leader for my ability to make connections with those around me. If I lead in ways that just push people around, it won’t be very effective; at a certain point people get fed up with a condescending boss and orders are no longer effective. I do not set out to be a leader only to receive credit, I am a leader to create a lasting impact.
While cell phones may be smart phones they don’t necessarily belong in school. School is a place to focus and learn. Cell phones can be a distraction which takes students focus off their education. Besides the distraction of using a cell phone in school, there are many ways they can be used inappropriately. Lastly, students don’t need a further excuse to use technology in school, they need be able to think on their own. Therefore, I believe cell phones should be banned from school.
