I job shadowed at an elementary school in our county. I was interested in the value of an experience at another school and grade level. The day started with welcoming buses and students being dropped off in the car rider line. It is amazing to me to see how effective organization and planning can allow for movement of six hundred plus children to safely happen. While each school has a different way to load and unload buses, I saw proof there is more than one effective way to get it done. As a future administrator, I have now seen and experienced a variety of strategies for arrival and dismissal and feel confident in implementing the best one I see fit for my school. The second experience was a classroom observation of a first
The first week at John Reith Elementary, I felt completely lost and did not know what to do. I did not have any formal instructions and did not know my place. , I met the AM kindergarten teacher Ms. Moua and I was informed that Ms. Din would not be in today and a substitute teacher would teach the class. I did not have any interaction with the students and only observed the class as a whole.
My experience working at Cutler Bay Middle School through a nonprofit AmeriCorps program called City Year, makes me a good fit for this position. During my year of service, I help run tutoring in the morning, I did behavioral mentoring to a set of 8 students during lunch and ran an after school club. In the classroom, I did specialized interventions for sixth, seventh and eighth grade students in ESOL classes. I also helped run two successful events at Cutler Bay Middle school one was a literacy and math event and the other was a talent show. Please see the attached document for a copy of my resume and I look forward to speaking with you regarding my
On the 27th of January, I had the pleasure of Job Shadowing Billie-Jo Deal at the ODOT (Oregon Department of Transportation) Region Five Office in La Grande. ODOT is responsible for the construction, improvement, maintenance, and safe operation of Oregon’s transportation system. Billie’s official job title is a Region Five Traffic Safety Coordinator and is the only one working as a Coordinator in all of Eastern Oregon. On a normal day, she is typically working on writing grants, coordinating safety and enforcement programs, or giving presentations to schools and workplaces all across Eastern Oregon. I specifically chose Billie for my Job Shadow not only because I already knew her, but I have always been curious about what her job is like. I
Aaron and I began working together in August 2013 at Oak Grove Middle School in the Davidson County School System in Lexington, North Carolina. Inasmuch as we were both new to sixth grade, we were both experienced teachers. Aaron’s wife had been my school’s technology representative so I knew of him through her. Although I had little contact with Aaron the familiarity with his family created an instant friendship.
For my shadowing day I shadowed Mr. Jay, who works for Big Red Rooster company, however I spent the majority of my time with three of his coworkers. The first part of my day I spent with Mason Miller, a graphic designer, then to Sarah Mape, and environmental designer, and I ended with Brady Schneider, an architect. From talking to the three of them I learned that there is really no typical day at work. Any problem could come up at any moment and one should be ready to tackle the task immediately, however most days are not like that. When work is not time threatening or difficult, day can be more relaxed and chill. The backgrounds from those who work there varied. The designers found themselves in more artistic classes when they were given
I am currently a student at Fox Lane High School. Back when I was in elementary school and middle school I didn't care about whether the teachers were there or not. Even in 9th and 10th grade, I still didn't worry about it. But now that i'm in junior year of high school I need all of the teachers and staff to be there as much as possible, multiple times this year I have needed a teacher to review, go over tests or just to understand something more, but their class was cancelled or they couldn't stay after because of meetings. The meetings really throw off the kids because if there is a test friday and the kid wants to see the teacher to review, today the teacher might have a meeting during class so the kid can't learn anything bc there will
One morning, I woke up and got an email saying I was going to be a teacher at Crawford Middle School, so I got ready and drove to the middle school. When I got there I went to the office and got assigned to the seventh grade science class. At first I was nervous because I had nothing at all planned for class. As I walked in all eyes turned toward me. I introduced myself and started to become less nervous.
The reason I choose this job shadow, was some family friends work there and it has always interested me. This is like a teaching job, but they focus on difficult classes that many parents can’t teach at home. HERO is a program that is for homeschooled children. So when I job shadowed it was near the end of their year getting grades put in and reviewing for tests. I think what was the most surprising is how similar to highschool it was. I have always gone to public school so I wasn't sure how different being homeschooled was, but in this program it is very similar. I think that if someday I ever decided to homeschool my children that this would definitely be an option for me, the way that they really get to interact with the children they teach
On my first day of job shadowing I was entirely unsure what I was going to experience and was anxious for the day ahead. This first day consisted largely of my mentor going over the basics of her job, which was completely different from what I originally thought it was. She was quick to tell me that while she does work a lot with animals, she communicates with the owners often to discuss how to properly train their dogs, and to explain why she grooms the dogs the way she does. She also demonstrated to me how teach dogs to perform a variety of behaviors as pictured to the right. My mentor also taught me some of the basics of dog grooming. We discussed how to communicate with clients, how to blow dry a dog, and how to brush a dog. In the image to the right she is demonstrating to me how to brush a dog and how different types of brushes work to remove matts. We often discussed how grooming dogs can improve their
It's going great in middle school so far. I have some problems with some things. There is lots of good and bad things about school. I think that some things need to be changed.
My job at the Wheeler County Elementary School has been an adventure so far. All the way from crazy phone calls, to just being there to help as needed. Even though I have just started this job, I have really enjoyed this experience this far.
This was my childhood dream come true starting on Tuesday September 8, 2015. As I finished my required field experience hours on Thursday the 10th, I couldn’t resist and had to return back to my new set of children. Immediately within the first few minute of me being there I built such great relationships with these loving and adorable children. Mrs. Poland the teacher I had the honors to observe was an amazing role model for me. She modeled extremely well what a teacher should be especially working with ESE students. Approximately three of them were in the process of mainstream but on a trial and error basis. I decided to complete my observation hours at Lewis E. Wadsworth Elementary School here in Palm Coast. According to Old.flaglerlschools,
High school; four years of hell. Basically. If you were lucky, you got out with passing grades and a pretty good heart left. Now yes you could be one of those exceptions, where you get the best grades ever or you find your sweetheart in your first or second year of high school. But those were special cases that rarely happened. Usually you ended up twenty-six years old, working somewhere, watching as little fourteen year olds supposedly have found their true love.
Forty three hours and seven minutes is a lot of hours to work in just three short days. Did you know that about 20 percent of young teens go through the struggle of working while in high school including myself? Friday morning when I left school, I headed straight to Mugshots in Tupelo, MS to work a double. Even though the morning shift and the night shift were crazy, it passed by super fast. After having someone dump their sweet tea on me and slipping in the kitchen I was passed ready to go home. Finally, at one in the morning, I got to clock out and go home. The next morning at nine, I was headed back to work again. As I drove down the long highway, I thought to myself, wow, this will be a very long thirteen hours. Walking in the door, I
For the past six years, I have had the opportunity to work in private schools in a low income urban community, which has given me a deeper understanding of the challenging situations kids go through in the hands of single parents. Not only that, but having done my national service in a predominantly low socioeconomic district, where I sometimes had to walk for miles to work, is obvious of the educational injustice kids in low income communities go through. This is because during my national service, I saw kids whose parents could not afford just a single exercise book. There were also inadequate teaching and learning materials and kids sometimes had to sit under trees to Learn, whiles kids in urban schools enjoy comfort in their schools.
