Ruth felt connected to black culture in Harlem because she was never part of a group where she felt welcomed. She would support the Civil Rights acts as if they were her own. On the other hand, she felt rather excluded from the people living in the South. As she had a growing family to take care of, she would be in need of family and financial support, but they would purposely shun her. At a young age, Ruth a practicing Jew was ridiculed and bullied by classmates who were gentiles. It affected her so much she changed her name so she could fit in more, “My real name was Rachel, … but I used the name Ruth around white folk, because it didn't sound so Jewish, though it never stopped the other kids from teasing me” (McBride 80). Her parents forced Judaism on her, causing her to resent religion; therefore, she converted to Christianity when she was an adult. This conversion helped rediscover herself and create a new relationship with God. Ruth’s adult life changed significantly from her life in Suffolk. She needed some relief after separating from her family so she embraced her new religion and found the relief in practicing Christianity. In chapter 19 of your book Edward deals with the loss of Sarah Ruth.Edward loses Sarah Ruth due to an illness.I have dealt with loss such as Edward did in chapter 19.I lost my dog/best friend to an infection.Due to the infection she couldn't walk or eat. I got Chivers when I was 3 and lost her when I was 13.That's a long time,she had grown on my whole family and nobody could believe what my dad had done.He put her down because he thought it was the best for her and I guess he was right. Edward and I don't deal with the same type of loss.I saw Chivers being put down from a mile away.Edward losing Sarah Ruth was a surprise. So she eventually had gotten very skinny and helpless and had to get put down so she would no longer suffer.

As a third and fourth grader, I participated in choir. I enjoyed it then but decided to stop so that I would have more time for homework. In the beginning of seventh grade, when it came time to decide if you want to join choir, Maria Abbulone and I chose to sign up. We thought it would be a fun experience because we enjoy singing, and we had done it in past years. Having a dad that is in the military can be tough. I had to adapt to new places and go through situations that made me doubt who I really could be. Through it all my family has always been there for me. When I moved to Virginia it was hard for me to adapt. After I joined the soccer team the situation brightened up. Since stepping foot into Georgia State University, ingratiating myself within the school campus was my way of evolving my student leadership abilities. The novel, To Kill A Mockingbird, takes place during a racially intense time in history. Harper Lee’s novel was intended to bring a harsh sense of reality to the real world, and demonstrate how it really was during this time in history. This novel is set in Maycomb, Alabama, somewhere during the time period of 1925-1935. Times were hard for the citizens of Maycomb during this period, because of the depression.
