Throughout the semester, I created a portfolio about my progress. Two ways that I have improved by adding information is me being a good candidate and improving my skills. I have become a better candidate by joining a club. This club is called GLOmies, which not everyone gets into. I was given the option to take this club to work with special kids, and I thought about how that would make me and the person I would work with feel. I thought it would be a good experience and I chose to try it out. I improved my skills by being more confident, talking in big crowds, and learning new things. These are big steps for me, which I would not normally take, but I would like to expand my skills; and the only way for someone to do that would be to learn
Starting high school can be a little scary, especially when you have no guidance from siblings, like me, being the first one from my family to have an education. But that did not stop me from succeeding, I?ve always been confident and determined. I?m an enthusiastic when it comes to trying new things. Who would have thought I was going to be a good athlete plus a book geek, when in my past years I was just a regular kid. I was pretty excited about joining a club that had a connection with high school, that way I didn?t have to start from zero, I always want to be a step ahead. Fortunately, in summer, a high school coach was recruiting freshmen for running either cross country or track, they both involve running, so I considered it like the same sport with different timing. And this is when it all started. Running
My current strengths according to the LifeStyle Management Health Risk Inventory, is that I am punctual in seeing a primary care provider, whom I have seen in the past two years, it was suggested that it is of vital importance to do so, as a PCP can provide helpful information about my health and how I can improve any health problems I may have. Another strength of mine is that I get the flu shot on a regular basis, it is important to do so, as the flu virus does not spread to those who I am around and protects me from the virus. According to the LifeStyle Management Health Risk Inventory, my BMI is 21.03, which puts me in the healthy weight bracket, maintaining my weight in a healthy range will lower my risk for heart disease, cancer and other
While my accomplishments on paper may seem limited, I have always considered myself a proficient writer. I have written almost daily since about sixth grade, albeit my prior schooling did not do much of a service for my writing skills. This, I feel, has led to me being able to write well, but not being able to break-down & improve my writing efficiently. These effects can be directly seen by me performing better on the essay for my SAT than I did on the actual writing question subsection. I wish to attend USF to hone my writing skills into something more presentable to the world. I feel have the ideas, but not the tools, so to speak. My overall goals include one day attending classes at the Poynter Institute to maximize my comprehension of
I took Engl 131 last quarter and the portfolio that I submitted was my biggest accomplishment in writing. I was very proud with the result because it comprised all my effort from the whole quarter. The portfolio included six essays and explanations for each outcome of the course. It marked my improvement in writing from proving how the essays have been refined in every draft. The essays focused on the topics of audience, genres and rhetorical skills.
As a Venezuelan international student, sharing my voice in English has been a challenge. When I first came to the Community College of Aurora, fear clearly affected my learning process and social life. As I struggled with the language barrier, I received a call from the school to attend a Student Government meeting, where I first met Kathryn Sturtevant. Since then, she strived to discover and understand my professional and personal goals and has pushed me to overcome challenges that have shaped me as a better human being. As advisor of the Student Government Association in which I am Vice-President, Kathryn has incorporated a variety of trainings such as Strengths Quest and True Colors that are meaningfully aimed to improve and empower not only myself but
Starting a new school in a new state is already stressful enough; now add being rushed to the hospital for the first time and you have a very terrified 9 year old. It was my first asthma attack, and at the time I did not know what was going on besides the fact that I felt like someone was sitting on my chest. Between being loaded into the ambulance, and wondering if I was going to die, this is one of my strongest childhood memories, but not for the reasons you think. Once I got to the hospital, I was checked into a room, and a physician came in and sat with me as we waited for my parents. The one thing I remember most from that experience wasn’t the treatment, or how smart he was, but the compassion he showed to me. This is what made that experience
My long-term goals start by acquiring many jobs and having those jobs help me gain new skills and experience. I would like to grow as an individual in the next few years. My goal is to finally ride in an airplane. I would like to explore new areas and learn about different cultures. I see myself studying abroad and graduating from UC Merced. Have made so many friends and gained so much learning. My goal is to buy an expensive vehicle, one that is comfortable and saves gas. I would really like to own my own house and live in a good neighborhood with a steady income job. I would like to have a job that uses my skills and experience to help improve my working place. All these goals are between three to ten years to complete.
In ten years I see myself either in college getting ready to get a job to make my mom proud and struggling a little bit in some of the assignments. I would live either in a duplex or just in a little apartment for starters and possibly have a dog. The work I would be doing would be lots of paperwork for patients or customers, and my career would be working for Aura possibly with a second job working at a grocery store, not promising that. This goal is important to me because I would have to pay for groceries and rent and pay my bills so i can actually have a roof over my head and be able to eat all the meals that are necessary. This goal also helps me get a better understanding of what people are going through and lets me interact with others. This provides happiness to others and getting a better understanding of what people have to go through everyday of their lives. School has a counselor that can help you with finding the right career and helps you achieve your goals. School also has the teachers which
Almost every job requires steady focus to get your work done. If you're a copywriter, you have a deadline to meet whether or not you're "in the mood" to write the salesletter. If you're an accountant, you have to make sure all the numbers balance. It doesn't matter if you just had a messy break-up with your significant other. It just has to get done.
It feels embarrassing to look back at my Digication portfolio from my previous writing course. We were assigned to compose three final drafts that were required to be published on our writing profile for all the university to see. Struggling with perfectionism (self-diagnosed) and being so absolutley far from perfection is an anxiety of its own, but plus the requisite to publicly share my imperfect work freaked me out. What a beautiful skill it would be to produce academic writing that moved people’s perceptions. Now returning to my old portfolio, I cannot help but feel sorry for my professor who, I assume, saw little improvement in my work, and feel sorry for myself for never feeling confident about producing a scholarly argument. Although
My childhood was fun. I got to hangout with family a lot more. I would go over to friends house and play videogames. I would play hide n seek with a group of friends. Life was a lot stressful because school was easier for me and I had less responsibilities.
Everything that I have attained in the past helped define who I am today. Everything I have gone through and have done in the previous years of my life molded me into the person I am today. Not only have they shaped me into who I am; but also guided me in discovering the potentials I did not realize that I had. Without the challenges and hardships of the past, I know that I would not be who I am today.
Throughout my life, I feel like I have been pretty successful. I have been able to accomplish some of my personal goals, while both being able to give back to my community and plan for my future. I hope that my with the success I have had already, will help me have an even more successful life in the future.
My writing portfolio includes my best work that was completed within The Beginners Creative Writing class. I must say that this class was completely different from what I thought it was going to be like. I assumed that it would be like any other "English" class. I was very wrong. I really enjoyed this creative writing class. I have learned a lot about the many different writing styles. This class also helped me to dig deep and write from the depths within instead of just surface writing. Even though poetry is my favorite form of writing; I must be honest and say it was the most challenging for me. I love to write poetry, but I was not very familiar with the literary terms, different structures, styles/forms of poetry. I have always stayed within
I believe that what really sets me apart from the other candidates applying to the University of California is that I am willing to go the extra mile that the other candidates are not. I am hard working and what I really mean by when I say “I am willing to go the extra mile that the other candidates are not” I mean that I am not afraid to do what it takes, I have the determination to back up what I say and the actions I take and that is what really sets me apart from the other candidates.
