With the progress of my reading level and my writing skills, I grew to be more confident in my self, taking harder classes and turning in advanced work. All the work I put in, all the hours I struggled, and going to classes before and after school made me the reader and the writer I am today. One motto I have always lived by is, “there is always room for improvement”, meaning that having the right mind set or attitude can push you forward and help achieve any goal. Richard Nordquist, is a professor emeritus of rhetoric and English at Armstrong Atlantic State University, explains it perfectly when he says “Certainly you can change your attitude--and you will, as you gain more experience as a writer.” In my case, where I am now is the result
Over the course of this semester, I have learned many things to improve my writing. Having taken the course before, this semester has been an excellent opportunity to expand on my existing knowledge. Although I had written many essays before, there is still much to be learned and improved. Two factors of writing that I had learned or improved on this semester were transitions/topic sentences and how to properly structure a conclusion paragraph.
In all honesty, I don't remember a lot about becoming literate. I didn't have a special moment or time when I knew that reading or writing going to take me somewhere. According to my mom she started to read to me when I was one, so there wasn't anything that could've excelled me much farther before going into kindergarten. One of the requirements in elementary school was to read every night which I believe was an important factor of me improving my literacy. Reading and writing used to me excite me because I would immerse myself into a book or write a whole new universe on a page. I made reading and writing something personal to me. I now realize that every book and every piece of writing can be worthwhile in one way or another.
How can I become a better writer? Throughout my writing experiences, I have learned I have many weaknesses along with strengths. My experiences with writing has not always been the best, but over time, with lots of practice and instructions from my instructors, I can proudly say that I have gained a better understanding on the layout of essays and papers. As well as understanding how to write correctly my goal as a writer is to learn how to overcome my weaknesses and use my strengths to my highest ability. I have many strengths, weaknesses and goals that I plan to achieve and overcome in my college career.
At the moment, there are only 5 articles available for a 3-star rating, which isn't much. I was wondering, can I apply to any teams at this stage? Are there other ways to find additional work?
My experiences as a writer have been both very engrossing and strenuous. I have learned a great quantity on both reading and writing, though, I continue to struggle on things that I have learned by this time, making the same mistakes that I do not even realize. Sometimes things are not so easy to understand when reading information, especially if the wording of an article is difficult for example. I love the idea of learning new things everyday. These past years as a writer have been very interesting, and I have learned and grasped many concepts I have been taught along the way.
When I start my writing process, the topic is key. The decision of what I'm going to write about is based on how I feel about the topic. If I have some baseline knowledge about a particular subject and it relates to my life somehow, then it becomes a bit easier for me. For example, if I had to write about Army life, I can easily relate to this subject and can lean on my experience to help guide me in the right direction. Another tool is research, using proper citations in my work to support the opinions or ideas.
Having to write about my own literacy is hard to do, first of all it’s hard to recall things that happened when you were a child let alone when I started to read and write, I remember going to school playing, the teacher reading to us, making vowel sounds and learning to write my name; I recall the teacher giving out the spelling list and taking it home to practice before Friday’s test, I would go to school hoping and praying that I would not misspell any words; as usual I missed a couple of words and I knew what that meant.

From my experiences, I have learned that effort and dedication are the key factors needed to gain magnificent literacy skills. Even though, I had to start from the bottom all over again, I was able to succeed in a new language.That’s why, I feel that it is extremely important to keep expanding our knowledge in order to develop our understanding, imagination and language. Although, I feel that I have improved my literacy throughout my 19 years, I know there is much more to learn.
Throughout all of my years of schooling I have had difficulties with my learning. Ever since I was young I had trouble reading and sometimes was slow to learn. When I was in first grade, my teacher noticed that I was learning at a slower pace and was having trouble keeping up with the material. She mentioned something to my reading teacher and they made a decision that I should take a test to measure my academic learning level . Once my results came back they decided to put me on an IEP and in a class to help me better my reading skills. I took that class throughout elementary school, continued into middle school, and then on to high school. This experience helped me learn how to work hard to try to prove to both myself and others that this does not limit my intelligence.
My earliest experience with reading and writing were traumatizing especially when I was in the first grade. I still recall the experience I went through to this day. It made me really hate myself because the other kids were making fun of me.
I have had the privilege to spend this spring semester learning from one of the greatest English teachers in the world, and I have been blessed with some amazing new friends that I have met through your class. Because of your positive attitude and brilliant teaching skills, I have made strides in my reading, I have learned the difference between sympathy and empathy, I have strengthened my writing skills, and I have been introduced to more Greek dramas and tragic heros. The entire class and I have worked very hard this semester under the direction of an excellent teacher. I have changed a lot academically throughout seventh grade. For an example my writing skill have improved. I have been able to write paper with less stress involved. I also have gotten a lot better at math too. This year i have been challenged in math and it has helped me become better in math. Overall i have become a better student and learned a lot.
In this semester my achievement of improving my writing skills has increased significantly. My sentence lengths vary in a positive manner along with my word choice improving, becoming more complex and of writing expectation. My main struggle this semester would be the peer editing. Although I have improved significantly I still find it difficult to edit others papers. Further more than the common spelling and grammatical errors. I believe my essays have improved drastically from the beginning of the semester towards the end.
Would you believe me if I told you that masters of any art still practice the skills that got them to where they are now? This might not come as a surprise to most, but success and perfection is measured in time. Repetition is key when talking about mastering skills. There are many steps that have helped me through my writing process. Thinking planning, and revision are skills that have made me a better writer. These skills are crucial for becoming a better writer because it decides the volume of my work and makes sure the reader understands my intent.
