Personal Narrative: My Score On Extraversion

Considering my personality, based on the “Big 5” personality traits, extraversion, agreeableness, conscientiousness, emotional stability, and openness to experience, I scored on the high end of the moderate range. As for the openness to experience, I scored a 9 out of 10 ranging in the high level of personality factor (Project 2, BMAL-500 D, McGraw Hill Connect, Liberty University, 2017). I feel as if though this is accurate as I am generally outgoing and enjoy the company of others.

Is the act of suffering an unavoidable circumstance? Can people ever truly find relief from the struggles they face? On some level, we can all relate to the feelings of pain and hopelessness in our lives. We often bottle these feelings up, creating a strain within ourselves and the people around us. In the short story, Sonny’s Blues by James Baldwin we are introduced to an unnamed narrator who has dedicated himself to living an orderly life, sheltered from the violence and suffering of the world around him. This led him to disconnect to his brother Sonny, who didn't choose the same traditional pathway as he did. Through the eyes of this unnamed narrator, Baldwin deals with the theme of suffering .

The case that seem interesting to me would be Adolfo Constanzo also known as the “Witch Doctor”, he was a serial killer in the 1980’s. He had religious history background since he was young. He eventually created his own religious cult as he chose his patron saint, pledging himself to Kadiempembre, his religion’s version of Satan. Throughout his life Constanzo perform ritual murders. In 1983, Constanzo traveled to Mexico City, were he recruited his first disciples. After multiple killings, he managed to evade police by hiding out in his Mexico City ranch until a 1989 raid, during which he asked his fellow cult members to kill him.

The second day of my practice I felt that I had made some progress towards my goals of improving my time management and getting my documenting done earlier and providing relevant healing initiatives for my client.

According to the Jung Test, I’m an Extraverted, Sensing, Feeling, and Judging. While reading the descriptions of my personality, I was surprised on how accurate it is and the flaws I have to improve. Being an extravert helps me open up to the world and expand my connection to the real world. Communicating with other people not only helps me open my mind but also helps me learn how other people think and talk. Being able to feel and sense others’ behavior can lead to a better interaction with different people.

The 6 point grading scale along with my erratic home life has made it challenging to get good grades. My mom is an alcoholic. Her drinking became really atrocious in 8th grade through my junior year. She went to get help at a treatment center at the beginning of my sophomore year. When she got back, she relapsed several times during the next year, but in the middle of my Junior year she drank for the last time and has not touched alcohol since. The drinking and having an autistic brother put an enormous amount of stress on my parents marriage and they ended up getting a divorce in 10th grade. The first survey labeled the IPIP-NEO Narrative Report aims to estimate an individual’s level on each of the five broad personality traits within the “Five-Factor Model”. The first trait tested was the level of Extraversion which can be defined by an individual’s noticeable and active engagement with the external world (Narrative Report 1). According to the results, my score on extraversion was deemed average showing that I neither am subdued by the outside world, however, I am not an energetic talker. Since I like to engage with others and am energized by social interactions, I scored high in the trait of extroversion. By asserting myself in groups, I take on leadership roles when working with other people. I have a positive outlook on life and try to be friendly, energetic and adaptable to change. Easy to interact with others, I find it easy to form new friendships.

The type of person that I would classify myself as, is one who enjoys to be social, while also having a drive for success. I have always been a person who is hardworking, whether that may be achieving great grades on my report card, or waking up at five o’clock in the morning for football. Whenever I may encounter a situation that requires a great amount of thinking for the best possible outcome, I will always be the one to observe my options by using logic and reasoning, rather than my instinct or gut feeling. My results from the Meyer Briggs personality test have me to conclude that I generally am a social person. What had told me this was the part that informed me I was, “34% extravert” (Jung Typology Test).

My name is Kevin Daniel. My personality is that of an Adventurer because I possess the traits of curiosity, shyness in new situations, calm under pressure and also empathetic.

According to my IPIP-NEO narrative report I am a very independent, outgoing, calm, and curious person. My comprehensive report shows that I am: high scoring in openness, conscientiousness, and extraversion, average scoring in agreeableness and low scoring in Neuroticism. Raking in the 82nd percentile, extraversion was my second highest scoring trait. This means I am pretty outgoing, extraverted and love people. This is evident my scores of 89 in friendliness, 84 in assertiveness and 75 in activity level. Despite my high score in extraversion, I am on the lower side of average in the excitement-seeking facet with a score or 33. This means that even though I might like a little hustle and bustle and take charge I wont take to many risks and don’t always need a thrill to be satisfied.
