My time at CHS has been very different from the majority of graduates. Unlike most, I did not attend Colchester Schools prior to attending CHS, rather, I received my education at Grand Isle Elementary School. For me, going to high school meant saying goodbye to most of the friends I had known since I was little, and embarking on a new journey of making all new friends. This was a scary time for me, while my two siblings and a number of cousins had gone to CHS, I personally knew very few of my future classmates. Therefore, for the first few weeks of school in my freshman year, I walked around being unsure of what people's names were, and how exactly I was going to make new friends. However, I believe this experience has overall made me a better person, and has prepared me for the change of going off to college very well. One thing I noticed when I was a new student at CHS, was that the people who had gone to Colchester Schools for all their lives, felt that everyone should know their name. Not to say that any of these kids were self-centered, it was just what they were used to, everyone had always known their name. However, when I came along, and didn’t know …show more content…
If I can understand how someone else may be feeling in a certain scenario, I will be sure to do whatever I can to make that person feel exactly how I would want to feel. In college, I hope to learn the names of as many people as possible, especially when I become an upperclassmen, so that freshman or transfer students do not have to feel as intimidated and alone when they first walk onto campus. Additionally, I hope to make as many new students feel as welcome as possible when I become an upperclassmen at my chosen university. Since I have already experiences what it is like to be the “new kid” at school, I see no reason why I should try to help fellow classmates feel like that for the least amount of time
On 5/21/16 at approximately 2024 hours, Officer Acosta #0044 and I responded to Huntington Memorial Hospital, (HMH), for a report of a battery. The comments of the call stated, “IN ER RM #18, VIC IS 25 YO MALE ASSAULTED WED AT LA PINTO PARK BY UNK SUSP, ADV HE WAS HIT IN HEAD W/BAT AND HAS A PUNCTURE WOUND TO THE LIP. VICTIM IS EDGAR LARA DOB 10-02-90.”
Although there were some aftermath consequences of the revolution, the people of Virginia had to revolt against the governor William Berkeley because of, unjust taxes , of government policies and because the poor colonist felt the government should keep them safe. Moreover they also felt the lack of protection from the governor and revolted against him, for helping the indians and not keeping them safe. However despite all the struggles of the revolution the poor people were the one mostly affected..
I was never a kid that knew who I would become when I grow up. My interests ranged from wanting to become an interior designer to having a strong desire of becoming a pilot. I was often surrounded by healthcare professionals but I never imagined myself striving to become one. Little did I know that I would end up at a stage in my life where I would be sure about pursuing a career in healthcare. Although I have decided on my career path, I have yet to discover a particular field within healthcare that grabs my interest. The RA Internship will help me learn more about medicine and help me find a right field of study through clinical research experience and monthly lectures offered to me as an intern. Though this opportunity I will be able to
There are several things I hope to gain from my experience as a student at California Baptist University. Such things include, a community of God loving, supporting and encoring friends, a Christian based education and opportunities to grow into the person God created me to be.
Hinds Community College has undoubtedly enabled me to grow as both a student and a leader during my time enrolled. My passion has always lie in the film and media industry, which made Hind’s film program the perfect choice for me. Before entering this program my skills were unrefined, but now I have been given the knowledge to pursue a career in the film industry with the confidence in my ability to complete any necessary job. Since joining this program, I have become the Media Associate at First Ridgeland Baptist church in charge of all video projects, the sole video contractor for Harmonic Audio and Concert Production which is a multi-state concert production company, the lead contractor for a major theater
Through my experiences and achievements at California Baptist University, I can gain an academic advantage over my peers attending other schools. The amount of programs and majors offered at CBU will help me develop as an educated and experienced woman with a strong educational background at CBU. With the help of CBU, I can grow into my full potential and maintain a great headstart in entering the real world with a strong mentality of maturity. I have always maintained upstanding grades and high GPA in high school, and my attendance at CBU will merely continue my pattern of success.
I'm sorry to inform you, but I am resigning from Methodist. It has been a humbling experience, with many memories and laughter. I have leaned a fair amount from my fellow volunteers, the Nursery school teachers, and especially the kids. They taught me to cherish the moments. I am beyond grateful for the experience I had in the past 2 years, for yourself allowing a place at this wonderful hospital. Once again, thank you & I hope you have a blessed day.
The growth I have experienced while attending Hinds has forever altered my life’s course. When I first came to Hinds I was a sickly dual enrollment student who could not even begin to bear the thought of speaking in front of an audience. A diagnosis of Crohn’s disease turned me from an outgoing and involved high school student into a bedridden recluse. The various programs and clubs on campus combined with my everyday classes allowed me the opportunity to improve not only my public speaking skills, but also my leadership abilities. Hinds gave me an opportunity to return to my original self through education, the Honors Program and Phi Theta Kappa (PTK).
As I sat on the couch getting ready for the first day back at school, I heard the phone in the kitchen ring. I stood up to go answer it and I heard loud footsteps coming down the stairs. My mother was running down the stairs to answer it just in case it was one of her work calls. I noticed that her voice started to crack as if she was going to cry and the smile that she once had on her face had disappeared. The person on the other end of the phone was my Uncle Dylan from California calling to let us know that Aunt Liz had died in a car wreck. We were so devastated but little did we know she left me $12k. A couple days later I received a letter in the mail saying that I had to use it to help pay for my tuition. I am looking to attend the nursing program at Lindenwood, Missouri State, or St. Louis University.
The fall of 2014 was the absolute worst few months of my life. It started in the middle of September. My dad suddenly one day had a sharp pain in his side. He said he was fine, but my mom was not having that and got him to go to the hospital. The pain passed but that week they set up all kinds of scans to find out what was wrong. They figured out the pain was just gallstones. They thought they could just remove it, but that did not happen. In the same scan they found a mass in his chest. The doctors did not know what it was, so they came up with a few possibilities. A few weeks later, in the middle of October, they scheduled a surgical biopsy. Dr. Wallace, the surgeon, told us there were a few different outcomes from the surgery. I do not remember it all exactly, but I know there was one bad outcome and three others that were curable and they could fix right then and there. If it was one of the three things they could do a whole nother operation right there that day and remove it. The fourth was cancer.
Upon considering the events and experiences that have been a precursor to my interest in CCU, I am burdened with the decision of expressing a single cumulative moment that bears the most gravity upon myself to this point. Could it be the diligence of a dedicated family that bears the most impact? Could it be the countless teachers, instructors, and counselors that have selflessly invested in me? Is it the economic, political, or geographic tides that have surrounded my existence? Perhaps it falls within the lines of the many passages of books read or entangled in the conversations made by superior minds? Or is it held in the delicate grasps of a fragile moment too unknown to be remembered and too small to be noticed? Could it be that, in a
New friendships kindled and I began to learn the way of the group, how they dressed, the must have brands, and the lingo used throughout the school. Again I made sure that I knew all the right things to fit in with the crowd to prevent myself from being “different” and judged.
On graduation day 2014, I would leave the only people I have known for nine years. Although all I knew were these people, I was more than happy to leave this small private school and have a change for once. Here at St. Mark Catholic School we only got one new person a year if that even happened. If you were new everyone judged everything about you to find out who you really were. As Jennifer Ouellette author of “Tokens and Totems” says, “We all make snap judgements when we meet new people, relying on certain cues to make assessments, and those judgements often can be accurate, at least in broad strokes” (23). We called the people who have been attending the school since kindergarten the “originals.” Since the “originals” have all grown up together, everything in your life that happened, they knew it. Not only that is if they did not get their way, they would use anything bad that happened in your life against you. If something had made you different they used that to
Writing styles changed drastically from the nineteenth to twentieth centuries. The nineteenth century had authorial intervention and authors wrote about things they had never experienced, where as the twentieth century had a lot of hidden symbols and images and writings were more generally based on events in which the authors had been a part of. Many people thought these “hard to understand writings would be a temporary phase of literature, but authors such as Ernest Hemingway wrote in such a branding way that this writing style has been a constant example of a powerful literary expression.
Throughout works of literature, authors use many different techniques to help enhance a reader’s experience. It is an author’s goal to make the work not just words on a page, but to take readers into their work as if he or she was in the context themselves. One of the ways authors can accomplish this is by using literary devices. By using literary devices, authors can develop their theme. After reading the plot is when the theme becomes more evident. Without the theme, readers are unable to connect to the work. Due to this, theme is argumentatively the most important aspect of a work. In order to determine the theme, the reader must examine the biographical, psychological, and historical aspects the author is portraying. When
