Fortunately, during my time in undergrad I learned how to time manage well. I learned what I could ask of myself and what I could realistically get done. During undergrad I balanced school, work, home, club involvement and social involvement. During that time, I learned how to say no to things I couldn’t take on and how to effectively plan my time by importance. So far that experience has helped me tremendously with the start of veterinary school. I knew coming into veterinary school that it would take up a lot of my time and I was able to prioritize from that. I manage task efficiently by looking ahead slightly and prioritizing what tasks need to be done first. My ultimate goal is to be prepared at least a day before a task is due. This may
There is definitely a lot to be taken away by this great video. It was very informing and inspiring to see this. I loved how he explained how he indirectly and directly accomplished all of his dreams, no matter how small or childish. Another aspect that I enjoyed was his use of walls and blocks in life, and how it leads to something better.
The initial shock of the significant workload and expectations can take their toll, but good time management skills can prevent multiple late nights in a row to get assignments done on time. Kelci Lynn Lucier has worked in higher education for ten years, and has experienced students struggle to try and find the balance between extracurricular activities, personal activities, and education priorities. Luckily, Lucier has four tips to help best use the time provided in a day. Lucier’s first step focuses on managing ones academic time and how it needs to be the top priority above all other curricular activities, stating: “It's important to remind yourself why you're in college in the first place: to graduate” (Lucier). Lucier’s second step is be able to manage personal time, she talks about how unrealistic it is to always be working, studying, or learning, she wants students to try and find time to do something fun with friends or a club. Lucier’s third step is to wkeep the students health in mind, it does no good to stay up until two in the morning studying over a history mid-term, only to be half asleep for the test anyway; sleep is important and without can only increase the stress. Lucier’s fourth and final step is to not be afraid to seek help with your time management, she states: “The most important thing to have for time
My plan for my future self is to be successful in any type of way possible and just make a good creative career the best way I can. Ever since I was a kid, I was in love with animals and hoped to make the animal environment a positive thing in the world and possibly become a Veterinarian. As I grew older, I started to think about how much time and effort I would have to put into what I wanted to become, but my mind was focusing on mainly helping people as I do today. I’ve never really been a straight “A” student and it is probably time to start focusing on how reality is and get my head in the game we call life!
My mom has been a Pet Groomer and Veterinary Assistant with 30 years of experience. Since I was pretty young, I always wanted to be at her workplace. I would always watch them with amazement, and see myself as one of them in the future. Never afraid of touching the animals, or disgusted by blood, vomits, diarrhea, etc. In 2011, I started working as an Veterinarian Assistant. My strong will to learn and help kept me growing. The desire to learn all related to medication, illnesses, vaccinations, etc. And compassion for those animals that are unable to describe their pain but to endure it. This personal values made me realize not to give up on my dream of becoming a DVM. I am an introverted person, but when I started training others while being
Many of my friends and family have argued with the idea that I should pursue a more practical career, doctor, lawyer, teacher, to name a few examples. However, I was never attracted to that, I knew that, regarding their background, that they essentially did not really understand what it is to pursue those kinds of careers.
Becoming a veterinarian is my green light. Since I was a kid, I have this dream of being a veterinarian. This is my green light because I want to be able to help animals, therefore, I cannot think of working with some other thing. I would not say that my life goals have changed over time because I have a love for animals and I want to be able to rescue as many animals as I can in the future.
Throughout my life, I have been through many different things. I have been through struggles and successes. I have been through multiple setbacks and breakthroughs. There is one specific setback, however that is very important to me that I overcame. It was not easy, but I finally did it. This setback took place during the time between when I entered high school and the end of my sophomore year.
As a child, everyone dreams of what that they want to become in world. Some want to grow up to be doctors, garage drivers, teachers and dancers. My dream has not always been clear to me; I wanted to be a neonatal nurse while I was in high school. I took courses throughout high school, and discovered that nursing was not God’s plan was for me. I did not find out that animal care was what I was truly passionate about until the days after my dog got ran over. Wrapping her bandages, cleaning her wounds and giving her medicine brought to me such joy that I have never felt before. Becoming a veterinarian was not what I planned, but it is was what I become passionate about.
Going on the journey of the roller coaster ride on becoming a veterinarian takes guts and the will to work. “All our dreams can come true if we have the courage to pursue them.” – Walt Disney
When I was younger I would always imagine myself as this super veterinarian, flying all over the world to help animals, and by pursuing a degree in biological sciences I would be one step closer to this dream. The first thing I can ever remember wanting to be was a veterinarian. One time, when we took my dog to the veterinarian, he let me go back and see behind the scenes actions. I shadowed the veterinarian and watched him spay and neuter cats and dogs.
The first day of my sophomore year put a halt in my previous plans to go to school to become a veterinarian. Every two years in my small high school, our Spanish teacher puts together a trip through EF Tours to one of the many countries in our world. That year she had decided that Belize was the destination. Although I didn’t have a clue where the country was, I added my name to the list and six short months later I had arrived in the Central American country. It wasn’t anything like I had expected. Apart from the humidity there was immense poverty evident in each town we went, which was also shown in the school’s that we visited. In that moment, a switch flipped in my head and I knew I wanted to do something to change that. By giving me this

Poor time management affects every area of a person’s life, especially a college student. Time management has always been very challenging for me. Setting aside time to study can be tough when I have a busy schedule. Most nights, my schedule consists of doing laundry, washing dishes, and completing other simple house duties. I try to sit down and focus on homework but those chores that need to be done are in the back of my mind. I have two dogs that are also quite the responsibility. One major responsibility with my dogs is having to take them outside. I live in an apartment, so I have to walk them down stairs instead of being able to just let them out the back door. Another problem is that I work until nine on some nights, so when I finally get home from work, I am too tired to
How I manage time is a reflection of what I value. Managing my time corresponds to how successful I will be in college and throughout life. Knowing and setting priorities to meet goals, carrying out plans, taking control of time, and staying focused are some events that are involved with time management. For many of us, balancing school with work and family is the greatest challenge involved with prioritizing. Good advance planning will help in meeting these challenges. Staying focused is usually difficult, especially for first-year students. Staying focused entails remembering and dedicating to the most important purpose for being in college. Sacrificing unnecessary commitments and keeping my
