The Assyrian Empire rose to power due to superior military organization and technology. They used iron weapons which gave them an advantage over opponents who still used bronze. The Assyrian army used tactics to discourage resistance and rebellion, using harsh punishments and publicizing their brutality. The most prominent way Assyrians dominated the Middle East was by a process called mass deportation. In this process the Assyrians forced entire communities to resettle somewhere else which gave them control on over 4 million people.
One day, as I was cleaning up my attic, I looked through a box and found an old photo album. I was curious to see what was inside, it was pictures of my dad and grandfather. As my eyes filled with tears I thought back to when I was younger, my mother would always tell me stories of my dad and grandpa exploring. One story that always stuck with me was when they had gone to Egypt. She would always tell me about the different colors, smells, tastes and sight there and ever since I have always dreamed of visiting there because that is where my father and grandfather died. While they were looking for artifacts, a huge sandstorm came and you could barely see an inch ahead of you. They were trying to get back to the truck when they fell into a hole they had dug searching for artifacts it was over fifty feet deep and they had both fallen to their deaths. My mom was pregnant with me when this happened and I was born five months later and have always wanted to explore. After looking through the photo album something inside of me changed and that when I decided I was going to follow my dreams of visiting Egypt. My mom had always wanted me to follow my dreams and to have experiences and so when I visit Egypt I want to explore the massive pyramids, ride camels, try new foods and have life changing experiences.
As I approached the boat I saw other people within it and I was immediately shocked by their height. As I stand eight feet tall and 300 pounds of muscle, I knew that this would be a difference they would notice. I have made the journey from my cave to the sand near the ocean many times and every time I did, I turned back. Not this time I said to myself, this time I was going to be brave. As the boat pulled away, I quickly dove into the water and followed it. I had no money for a boat ticket so I swam behind
Horrific violence, terrifying threats and public terrors strike fear into the hearts of thousands who oppose the Assyrian Empire. “An Assyrian Emperor’s Resume: Ferocious Conquests a Specialty” remains a paragon of these unspeakable tragedies transpiring around 875 B.C. Written by Ashur-Nasir-Pal II (or one of his subjects), this anecdote highlights his conquests as he claims ancient cities’ wealth, while brutally murdering foreign people and destroying their lands. Geographically, the story takes place in the Middle East, specifically North Mesopotamia. According to the author, he conquers places like Hudun, Zamua, Zamru, Iritu and Ammaru. The historical value behind this piece portrays prominent aspects of their society and depicts how Assyrians reigned, while hinting at the empire’s values; therefore, this historical account provides evidence, which exhibits the attributes of the Near East during Ashur-Nasir-Pal II’s reign.
While I was on the boat, my mother asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I told her that I didn't know yet, but I would tell her when I did. I tried looking for my older sister and my father, but they were gone. I profusely demanded my mother to tell me where they went and why they left us here. She replied by saying, "They went on ahead, to make sure the area we stayed at was safe and clean for our arrival." I was so proud of what I thought they were doing that I said, "I want to be like father." After I said that, tears ran down her face as she smiled. There truth was, that my sister died of tuberculosis and father died of smallpox and were both thrown into the sea.
This research paper is about one aspect of the ancient world that I have analyzed and the topic that I have done this research on is the Assyrian Army. I will give a detailed analysis with precise and concise information with well presented information with credible claims to support my paper and my thesis statement that “.The Assyrian Army was the most organized Army in the Ancient near east; they conquered the Dark Age era with their tactical and physical nature of militant system which makes them the best army of all time”. The Worldview connection is that the Assyrian was into terror and believed that they were immortal which shows how brutal they were. The Assyrians not only viewed themselves as a great army but had a worldview that was set as the foundation of western civilization which was more polytheistic.
I wanted to take that boat out and go tubing for the first time in my life. I was so excited that I even offered to blow up the tube by myself with nothing but my lungs, not knowing we had an air pump. Finally, after what felt like hours of begging like the annoying twelve year old I was, my dad said it was time to go. My sisters and I got our life jackets and wet shirts on, while my baby brother and step mom got on the boat, and my dad sat in the driver’s seat. My sisters and I were on the back on the tube, trying to find the best way to position our arms so we didn’t fall off. My dad turned the key to the boat and suddenly, my excitement turned to sheer panic. What happens if I fall off? What if my sisters fall off? What if there was a lake monster or a really big fish in the water? From that moment on, I was determined to stay on, so I held on to the handles for dear
After days of being in that horrible box, it was finally opened, my hope had come true…. Or so i thought. We move further down below the deck and to my disappointment it got a lot worse. We were chained to these wood plains and had to lay down right next to each other (every inch of my body touching someone else's). It was so uncomfortable, but that wasn’t even the worst part…. It smelled horrible, liking taking everything in the world that smells bad and mixing it up together. This was because many had vomit due to the poor conditions not only that but you had to pee right there and then. Also, since we were in the sea… everyone one was getting toss around like toys which cause many to be sea-sick. All we can do now is pray … well not even that because all our energy was gone. We didn't have energy because we didn’t get fed and when we did it was the most awful rice and beans that look so nasty it makes you want to gag. I was tired and shut my eyes for a bit… when i opened them i noticed my friend was died, it made me cry so much; but i shortly stop because a crew member unchained me and took me out of the room. I was escorted to a room filled with white men they all used me like a toy and then made me witness a man getting hit with a whip on the back. Me not being the smartest decide to go and try to help but end up getting hit myself which hurt really bad. They would do dreadful
To start off our day we all went to work and said our goodbyes to the people we know, work with, and talk to. After, we needed to go say bye to the people that we know around our home and tell them that we are immigrating to America, then we told them all the good things that America had to offer. By the time that was all over it was almost time to go to bed. Finally the last thing that we did was hope and pray that everything that was going to happen the next day, would work out well and have no problems immigrating to America. My parents and I went to bed a much earlier than normal because we knew that we had a big day ahead or ourselves. In the morning my mother woke me up at around six O’Clock and told me to get ready to leave for a long journey. At around six-thirty we left to head for the boats. When we arrived to the boats we stood there for a few moments just realizing how many people were going to America. Then, they walked up to a boat a got on. On the boat there was an instructor telling us to head to the lower part of the boat, when we got down there, it wasn’t just us riding this boat to America, it was a couple hundred people down there immigrating to America. So we sat down, on the floor like everyone else because there were no seats. During our trip to America, on the boat in the lower deck was so foul-smelling, due to how many
It all started when I was a little girl, my mom had taught me how to cook and I was making buffalo soup, it smelled like heaven. Right as I was going to be done making the dish I heard my mom yell my name in fear, I went outside only to see a group of people from another tribe running toward the house I was confused, all of the sudden I felt someone grip my sides as it happened I looked at my mom I saw tears forming at her eyes, I finally realized she was yelling for me to hide when I heard her yell my name, I passed out.
Starting from the Northern region of Mesopotamia, the Assyrians came to power in the 19th century. The Tigris River was the Assyrians starting point in building there empire through central Egypt. On the other hand, the Persians rose to power from the base by defeating the Assyrians with coalition of Babylon and an Indo-European people named Medes from Persia, modern day Iran, and build an even larger empire the world had yet seen. There empire started from Tigris goes to Greek cities to Anatolia and kingdom of Lydia. Both empires has used different military, government, artistic, and religious tactics to establish their empire.
The events that happened during Ashurbanipal’s lifetime are still questioned today; but there are some things that are absolutely true about him. At a glance, Ashurbanipal was just the last great Assyrian king. Well, there is more than what meets the eye. Briefly, Ashurbanipal was an advocate in literature, a soldier, and an intellectual learner. This meant that even though he was tough on his enemies, he was also interested in the literary side of the world.
In the city- state of Babylon the people had be ruling the land for years and the surrounding cities have started to plan against the great city of Babylon. One city in particular had be waiting for the time to attack and gain control of the fertile crescent, that city was Assyria. The ruler of Babylon Shamash-mudammiq had fallen ill and the strength of the city had weaken. This was the chance that Assyria had been cranking for to take down Babylon. The one issue that came up was that the Babylonians main god was the god of war and strength. The idol that enabled the Babylonians to speak to the gods and receive aid from it was at the top of their ziggurat. The only way that the Assyrians believed that they could defeat Babylon was to steal the idol and use it themselves to defeat Babylon.
The Assyrians were declared to have been an empire, but many would disagree. Looking at the three different articles, we will see if they fit the criteria for what would have been known as an Empire, or if they fit into what would be known as a kingdom. First a little back story on the Assyrians, they existed between 911 and 609 BC. Its expansion and coverage over most of the Middle East is astounding. It eclipsed a large chunk of Babylonia and Egypt. Making it appear to have been an Empire just by looking at the way it expanded. While it does look like an empires form of growth, there needs to be more evidence that could explain its overall political growth as well as the public realm and how it was advancing.
