Two years ago I went to summer camp with my boy scout troop 1517 to Camp Alexander , in Colorado Springs,Colorado . I was able to go to the high adventure camp which included backpacking in the Colorado mountains for six days and then hike to the top of pikes peak. I didn’t realize that the air is thinner up in the mountains and I haven't gone on a hike in a while so everyday I was tired and worn out. The first day of the trip up to Colorado we were restricted to no more than ten hours of driving per day so we had to stop at a church that was part of our troop charter organization Sacred Heart. There we played two hand touch football and had food provided by the church. The next morning we set off to Colorado. On the way we passed through Oklahoma, New Mexico and then Colorado. When we got close to Camp Alexander we could see mountains in the background, it was weird seeing mountains because they were really far away and still giant rocks on the …show more content…
When we go to the camp it was a little chilly, we then met our guides who were all our age and played some games to get to know each other. After that we were off to the wilderness for six days. The first place we camped was right along the river and on an open field, that is where we left the van with the rest of the food and gear that we didn’t need. We played spoons and made our MRE type food. This was the nicest camp site that we were at it had a canopy to sit under and porta potties, But it was not the most Beautiful. The second day we went up into the mountains which was difficult for everyone except our guides they lived in Colorado and we all lived in Texas where the air is thicker and there is more humidity. We stopped to take a break on a ledge that overlooked the area we just hiked through, we could see for miles and my only regret was not taking a picture of it. The second camp site was nothing special, but the next day we camped near a place that had multiple mountain caves we went and
It was about a 500-mile trek across the northern part of the state of Nevada from my house to where we were going to set up camp for the hunt. We had planned for two solid days of scouting the vast Jarbidge wilderness for elk. We had no guide so between me, my dad, and my uncle, lots of work was about to be done in the weekend.
Moreover we went to ziplines in the moutains of cancun. The ziplines took about 2 hours to get to because we had to go all the way up a mountain. We got to the ziplines and got our helmets
If there is a best part there must be a worse, and there was. First let me start with bear bags, in the wilderness there is a threat of bears so to avoid being mauled we would have to throw all of our smellable objects (basically everything) up onto a line strung high between 2 trees, the process was about 20 minutes long and a total drag. Next terrible thing was dishes, and that took forever. After all said and done it was time to cram into my tiny 2 man tent shared with andrew caplinger and pass out. The days went on with pretty much the same routine, walk, snack, outpost, walk some more, camp duties, sleep. It was around the 4th day that I really started to get sick of it all, our guide had left us so we were on our own which made everything a little harder. It was very rough on the body going to bed at 10-11 and waking up at the crack of dawn to go walk all day with a 60 pound pack on my back, but mama didn't raise no bitch so trudged on. Things got better when we made it to a camp where we would stay for 2 nights and only have to cook for 1, but the best thing about that camp was we saw the first girl we had seen in
After the train ride looking around seeing desert and sand. There was nothing, no houses to be seen the land flat and stretching for miles as far as the eye can see. I felt relieved to finally be off of the train and what I saw next took my breath away. My family and I have waited a long time to go excited to see what was waiting for us. The Grand Canyon the national park in Arizona August 2014.
It has been almost a month since I have last documented. After we left Independence Rock we were off to the South Pass. It was the harshest part of the trip so far, and we all learned how important water is and how we should not take it for granted. All the way to South Pass it was all sand and no shade. It was scorching hot and, on some days, got to or went over 100 degrees. After about a week and a half we got to South Pass, and then started our journey up the Rocky Mountains.
The mountains were tall (11,000 feet +) and covered with bright powdery snow. It was like nothing I had ever seen before. I was eager to set-up camp and prepare for our nine day hunt. But, Dad said that we had to drive around and check out all the good places, just to make sure that we were in
The camp was really nice and so were the people. They had a bell that went off when it was time to eat so you weren't late. In the morning you get to wake up and see the beautiful sunset on the beach. You learn about different fish and birds and a bunch of other things on the island, it is not all activities. They make the learning fun so you actually learn something and are not just sitting there bored and writing things down.
Unexpectedly, May was the cruelest month. I thought the snowy.mountain tops where beginning to melt off. I was wrong, and May had other plans. At lower altitudes it was rain, but above 10,000 feet it fell in the form of sticky, wet, snow. Winter was mild, letting on that Colorado would be passable by late spring, it was a hoax. Hikers formed into parties and attempted to hike on, only to be forced by the snow to turn around. We sat in town for days, twiddling our thumbs and pitching ideas around. On the forth day we came up with a solution. We stuffed a minivan with seven hikers and seven backpacks and headed to Wyoming. Our plan was to hike south, back to Colorado, connect our footsteps.
My trip to the Grand Canyon was the best experience I ever had so far in my life. My grandparents from Korea came along with us. Even though I saw them last year it was still an enjoyable moment that I had. Grand Canyon is located in Arizona so what our family did was fly to Las Vegas early in the morning and arrive in Nevada around 9 o’clock am. Driving to Grand Canyon was also five hours with heavy traffic. Driving and stopping every hour was hard to do but at the end it was all worth it. It was good that I had couple electronic devices and my family to keep me in company.
We left after my parents got off work one night. Our camper was all packed and we were ready to set off on our journey to New Mexico. Before we got to New Mexico we had to make a stop at my dad's cousin's hose to get the jet ski and then we were on our way to Ute Lake. We finally got there late that night.
The trail back was considerably harder, not because of the hike, but because one of my last adventures with my best friends was coming to an end. The thing about this trip was not just the sights or the sounds. This trip was about the memories I was making with my friends. This was one of the last times I would be able to do something like this with these guys, since everyone would be moving out and going to college couple months. Just being able to feel the fresh, untouched air, and see the bright, starry specs in the sky, with some of my best friends is
I was living in West Virginia I was there studying. West Virginia is known for its beautiful mountains and views. Thousands of people come from all over the world to experience the beauty of West Virginia. A couple friends and myself decided to go Hiking near Blackwater Falls State park which is around two hours from where I lived. I was very excited as I have never been hiking before.there was six of us all together and we decided to go on July tenth.
During the past two days I have driven through mountains, forests, past lakes, over rivers, creeks, and in cropped fields that fall into the big blue of Montana. During this essay I will talk about them.
Right as the line dropped I felt the tension of a monster on the hook. Setting the hook woke me as I realized it was a dream. If I had ticket I would fly to Montana. When I was young I lived in Montana. I've always wanted to go back up there not only to visit family I haven't seen in four years, but to hike up to the mountain tops and fish.
We were in the middle of the desert, basically having no sense of direction whatsoever. Riding down the coastline of a twenty-mile island off the coast of Venezuela. Not knowing where to go was an issue but my brother, Ben, and I were on the ATV zooming through the desert seeing various attractions throughout the trip. Watching animals run everywhere, experiencing the views of little beaches with huge waves it was like a dream come true.
