During the spring of 2017, I went to Miami and stayed with a friend I met in the first couple weeks of school. Her family are Cuban immigrants. I stayed at her house with her family, who live in Tamiami, a Cuban neighborhood on the outskirts of Miami, where most people spoke little to no English. I was immediately immersed into the Cuban culture the moment I arrived. I had the opportunity to first-hand experience the language, food, music, and lifestyle while I was there. A surprising thing for me while I was in Miami, was that we went to some restaurants where I had to order in Spanish because all the people that worked there spoke only Spanish. Also, we went to Calle Ocho, which is a festival in Little Havana, that celebrates Cuban culture.
During the summer of 2012, I was going on vacation to Clearwater, Florida, where we would hang out at the beach; go on mini trips during the main trip, while staying at the Magnuson Hotel for a week.
Today is Valentine's Day and I have nothing to do. Today I went to my brothers basketball game. They won 38-30 against auburn-y. This was a elimination game. I can't believe those ballers pulled it offing fugu. I mean when I was in 6th grade we didn't even make playoffs. Still single as always but I hope that will change. I like Evelyn Kitchen but I don't know if she likes me. I wimped out to ask her to dance with me and another kid in my advisory likes her too. It's pretty obvious. I just don't know if she likes me. I told my mom and dad and they told me to ask her. The worst thing that can happen is she says no and I get embarrassed to death. The next dance there is in March I'm going to ask her. I should probably explain
Starting my sophomore year I had always had a burning desire to beat Miami Trace more than any other school. I used to go to school with four people of their starting eleven, and they were not the most kind hearted when we left Fayette Christian School. They were bullies to my sister and I when they found out that my family and I had made the decision to leave the private school and start attending public school. At the time they were all a lot bigger than me so there was nothing I could do about it, but now because of soccer, there was. I looked at beating them on the field and outplaying them as my own way of getting back at them for all the hardships they put my family through. We had come out on top every time, except the last one.
Everyone has a different perspective on what their special place would be some might be their back yard while for others it could be in a different city that they visit often or a vacation home. For me it would be in Miami,FL.I consider it to be my special place because of the food, music,South Beach, and family .Many people know of South beach due to a lot of movies being filmed there. While for others, such as myself ,were born and raised there. If someone ever gets the opportunity to visit they should take it.
When i went Destin, Florida. I went to Florida this summer after school was out . We went with my sisters best friend, and my best friend’s family. We drove from Arkansas all the way to Destin, Florida. The day we got there we went straight to the beach! It was the first time I had ever seen the ocean! The following day we decided to go down to the smoothie shack and get a smoothie then swim in the pool. The grown ups went to the beach while we were at the pool.
One sunny, hot afternoon at switchback mx in Orlando, Florida I was preparing get two rookie supercross riders here train. I was getting very nervous that adam cianciarulo, and ryan lojack would not be here on time to train. I stepped out of the van and smelled the 2-strokes, and heard the roaring bikes. Then finally Adam and Ryan finally showed up! Ricky Carmichael and Ryan Villopoto and I told them to go get ready, because we had a lot of work to do today. Ryan, and Adam went to work on the track battling it out, when I waved them in.
“Miami, are you ready?” I could barely hear the head referee’s voice over the sole thought in my head: “Beat her to the ball.” I was one of the fastest girls in the South, outrun only by a veteran on my own team. Once the referee deemed both teams ready, he began the countdown. “Brooms Down…” I kneeled onto the floor and laid my broom flat on the ground. “Ready…” I shifted my weight onto the balls of my feet and gripped my broom as tight as I could. I was ready. “Brooms up!” I took off.
Growing up in Southern Florida is something most people don’t experience with a sun shining brightly every day and water canals everywhere I looked, with spacious land to play on in most places it was definitely a great time as a child. I remember going on field trips in my elementary school, to the great Everglades which was something so exciting. Also, remember every Sunday going to the beautiful springs with my family to enjoy the great fresh water coming from underground. Now 16 years have passed, and things don’t look the same anymore going back to the places I grew up in was so exciting to find out there is no more space anymore or land to play on all there is business buildings everywhere and went to the everglades to visit and show my adult friends how wonderful it is to see nature come alive but the experience was nothing like when I was a child the everglades looked destroyed with a bunch of “Welcome to the Everglades” shirt selling places surrounding it and more business building too, it was depressing to see were this beautiful ecosystem went. What I did realize was the
My best moment was when i went to the Florida Keys over Christmas break in 2015. It was a two week trip just on our way to the Keys. On our way we stopped at the Creation Museum down in Kentucky and we stayed at my grandpa’s house in Maranatha Village down in Sebring Florida. When we finally got down to the Keys i couldn’t believe how beautiful it was. The water was that beautiful blue color and there was nothing but colorful coral and crystal blue water everywhere. When we got to where we were staying it was packed. There were more campers than we could count. The campground was on it’s own little island on the highway. My dad used to work there while my grandpa sang for an audience in the outdoor bar by the pool and hot tub. When i went to
So my first two weeks at Florida Southern have been exhausting to say the least. One does not really know how flipped their sleep schedule is until they have to wake up early to drive to 8 am classes every other day. The bright side to these days, however, is that I end up making it home by about 11:00 am, where, beforehand, I might have even woken up at this time. I honestly don’t know what I expected from college, but I knew that the college that I planned on attending had a very beautiful campus. Living in the area, you always hear people talking about how world class architecture is located within the city. Florida Southern, along with Publix, and the location between Orlando and Tampa were the reasons everybody talked about
A few days in the marina, savoring the last little bits of our time in Florida, ended abruptly with an early morning trip to the airport in the dark. With spring break coming up and missing grandbabies, not to mention kids, we planned to fly back up north for a visit. We had to wear long pants and carry coats because we knew it’d be cold in Maryland. Ohhh…the horror of it.
I am a Latin American, who grew up in the U.S, so I carry with me the values and traditions of my Cuban ancestors. Cuban culture is very interesting and colorful, usually with a bizarre mix of factors. This mix of different influences and factors is evident at various levels of the Cuban culture. After interacting with people from diverse cultures, I have learnt that Cubans are very positive, always happy and have no prejudices. They are always sociable, friendly and with a good sense of humor. This explains why people from this culture are more willing to share ideas, feelings and thoughts, even with strangers. Their communicative nature, their friendliness and open-mindedness help them to interact better with people from different cultures
Have you ever been to Atlanta,Georgia before? The time i went to Atlanta,Georgia was month I have ever had. I got to hangout with my cousins, family, and friends. We had so much fun with them because we did something so much fun.We went to Atlanta,Georgia to go visit people.
That day, when I applied to South Dade was a choice that I didn't really care for at all. To me, it really didn't matter what school I go to, one bit but to finish high school. Until all my year's of being in South Dade. Not knowing what I will become in the future or what to do with my life at all one bit. So, I just started at the base and tried out for clubs and tried new things that I can take in. To give me a sign of what I want to be in life. So, after going to several clubs and noticing I have no interest in them. And just gave up. Till I heard about one club from a friend of mines in the hallway. As I was really interested because it was part of a hobby I like to do and that was cooking.
"Stop asking questions!" my mom had told my brothers for about the one hundredth time. We were in our family minivan on our way to Florida. My mom and step dad would not tell my younger brothers where they had planned for us to go. I could see Bailey and Lucas Jr.'s ( We call him LJ) frustration and boredom as we passed the "Leaving Louisiana" sign. Though I knew we were going to Florida, I didn't know exactly where or why. My mom, Tonia, sat in the passenger seat; the entire ride all I saw was the back of her reddish-brown hair. I could see Lucas', my step dad, light hazel eyes in the rearview mirror hanging in the middle of the roof. The two youngest, Bailey and LJ, sat in the middle seats, and Timothy, my other brother, and I sat in the
