I’m Jacob Boger, most would say I’m outgoing, helpful and funny. I took art at Piedmont IB in the 6th and 7th grade. I never signed up for an Art class in high school until my Junior year. I chose to take an art class because it was required to attend a four year college. While I was a student at Piedmont, we visited museums like the Harvey B. Gantt center and The Mint Museum. While visiting the Mint Museum we saw pieces from Romare Bearden, Sculptures from Downtown Charlotte, and many more fascinating paintings. My Uncle David is a photographer and photo editor. When I look back on the projects we did in Ceramics the Sgraffito tile was the most challenging, I had different sized circles that weren’t easy to finish. The most interesting project in Ceramics was the mask, your …show more content…
When making the mask first I made a platform for my mask to sit on, then I rolled out a Slab of clay on the Slab Roller, then I cut the slab with a needle tool to fit the platform. I used a template of a face to mark out the nose line, hairline, mouth, eye line and chin of the mask with a loop tool. Then I made the pit of the eyes with my thumbs, I filled the pit of the eyes with eyeballs. Then I added eyebrows, I scored the eyebrows to create a hair’s texture. I made a mouth by putting a mound of clay on the base of the mask and carved the lips and teeth out. I created an Orc’s teeth by making a fang, then I scored the teeth with a needle tool. I chose the hairstyle dreads because I wanted a challenge, I made the dreads by rolling out thin coils of clay and adding texture by scoring the coils. I placed the dreads over dreads to imitate movement. Lastly, I added body adornments like piercings and then I cleaned up any rough areas. Then, Ms. Wadsworth fired the masks in a Kiln. Challenges while making the mask where not that hard because I learned from mistakes on previous projects. My final product turned out great but I should’ve made the mask
Here is a place where Joint Task Force Guantanamo Troopers can relax, unwind and explore their creative side as an outlet for the stress and anxiety from a long week at work. On this Friday night, (need actual date.. can’t say day of week) a small class of five students gathered to learn ceramic molding, many of them starting projects intended for use as one of a kind Christmas gifts or personal souvenirs.
The original of this mask, made as it is with such finely sculpted and etched detail out of a thin sheet
When I was younger, my dad and I used to go on dates to the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art. Although I haven’t been there for over five years now, I still remember one piece of art that took my breath away; not because of the beauty of the artwork, but because of the shiver it sent down my spine, and the uneasy feeling I had when I looked at it. The piece of art that made me so apprehensive was a wax model of a museum security guard. The intricate detail of the figure, including the pores in the skin and the hair on the knuckles, left me wondering if this man were going to suddenly leap forward and yell, “Gotcha!”
As a Chinese immigrant who moved to the US when I was in 5th grade, I have always been fascinated by the diverse backgrounds of people in the city. My interest in history was sparked at ten years old, on my first field trip to The Tenement Museum on the Lower East Side. I was interested in the culture and background of the families who lived in those buildings at that time.
During Parent’s Weekend at Marquette, my family and I went to the Haggerty Art Museum. While I pleaded with my family to not go, as I am not a huge art fan, my Mom’s opinion overruled mine. From the outside, Haggerty looked like it would be small, but in reality, was quite large. When walking in, I immediately assumed that the art would not make any sense to me like at most art museums. However, I was quickly proven wrong as a lot of the art we saw was what I would consider impressive. They were not the drawings of a line or pieces that look like a child made them that you see at most museums, but what I call “real art”.
During this class, seniors will choose a raw piece of pottery, paint colors, brushes, sponges and stencils needed to complete their work of art. Before beginning their project, they will learn about the techniques and history of ceramics. While seniors are painting their ceramics, they can enjoy feel-good music and even have food delivered to them. When their project is complete, professionals will fire the piece for pick-up within five days. Creating a ceramic piece will help a senior reduce their stress and improve their focus. The cost of this class includes all materials and use of their equipment.
Hello everyone! My name is Tania Davis and I’m a sophomore majoring in Exercise Science. My favorite place on campus is the Gerdin Athletic Learning Center because I’m there almost all day everyday throughout the week. I am a member of the women’s basketball team. This is my first time taking an art history class so I’m pretty excited to see what I learn from it. This summer I will be spending most of my time on campus taking classes, and practicing for basketball.
Overall, I thought that this task was very enjoyable, but it was difficult at times but most of the time it was mostly easy. I found the difficult part was when I was cutting my stencil for my artwork as I had many curves, but I found that the most enjoyable part was being able to look at you finished product and feel proud of
The character that I have chosen to design a mask for is Hamlet. In my mask design I have chosen the colour blue, a noose and a dagger. I chose the colour blue because blue represents depression; throughout the play Hamlet shows many signs of being depressed. After Hamlet’s father’s death, Hamlet went into a mode of not having anything to live for. He himself would rather have died than live in a world where someone who is so corrupted ruled.
Jan van Eyck was active since 1422 and died in 1441. He was the most celebrated painter of the fifteen-century in Europe. One of his famous works is “The Last Judgment”. At first sight this work immediately attracted my attention. The painting’s stunning colors and the fact that it reminded me of a previous similar work I have seen, triggered in my mind. The material that is used is oil on canvas, transferred from wood. The size of this work is 22 1/4 *7 2/3 in. (56.5 * 19.7cm).
My experience to the Dallas Museum of Art was a bit different from the last time I had attended the museum. I was curious to see what pieces of art there would be and if it would be the same as the previous visit which was long ago, but to me all the pieces of art were so different and very interesting. It may have been because I saw all the pieces in a new perspective since learning about the different types of paintings there can be and knowing how and where sculptures come from. Even though I do not know much of art I really gave it a try into seeing what the artist may have wanted us to get out of his work. By reading a view of the chapters made me aware of art, I wouldn’t call myself an expert, but it was actually nice knowing that a
My observation paper will be about the time I went to Washington, D.C. with my friends. In this trip I saw a lot of important monuments and museums. This was the best vacation of my life because, I meet a lot of people from different states. Nevertheless, this assignment I am going to talk about two places, the Natural History Museum, and the Torpedo Factory.
For my cultural event my family and I went to the Virginia Living Museum. We chose to go to the Virginia Living Museum because we had never been there before, furthermore it gave us the opportunity to spend time together as a family. To be honest, I was quite hesitant to go to a museum with my four year old son. We have previously gone to other events and places together, but as four year old, keeping his attention, and his little feet going, is always a task. To my surprise, our experience was absolutely wonderful! The museum offered a lot of kid friendly exhibits, while giving all of us the chance to be together, learn about our environment, and animals in Virginia. By having this experience, I learned that I really should spend more time
After graduating from the University of Oklahoma, I started working at the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum in Oklahoma City. For about a year, I worked with artists and authors to organize book signing events. Now, life has taken me to Texas, and I am currently working at the Houston Museum of Natural Science, the most visited museum in Houston. I have decided that a graduate degree in Museum Studies will help advance me in a career field in which I am very passionate. For my graduate research, I would like to delve deeper into museum theory, work to fully understand how guests interact with objects, learn how curators create exhibitions, and research the capabilities of digital technologies in the galleries.
What a blessing I had today to experience in my own eyes wonderful sights and scenes. Many of you already know that I 'm famous for the mystical experiences I’ve had with Jesus and God in the past. Perhaps you’ve read my book? The Book of Margery Kempe? Yes, I Margery Kemp, got the opportunity to visit the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. There 's over thousands of beautiful artwork, one visit won 't suffice. I was captivated by everything I saw, but I was especially drawn into the magnificent gallery number 305.
