You know those mornings when you are full of energy and ready to take on the world? And then, you have those mornings when you just want to stay in bed all day and never get up. I just didn’t want to leave my cozy sleeping bag the day we went to Yukanom. To get to Yukanom, you have to go down the Klamath River by white water rafting and there is a small island. Then from that island you have to cross a small river to get to the other island where Yukanom is located. The group I was in was really excited about the trip. Yukanom is basically a freshwater waterfall. The fall is around 14 ft tall, and the water is literally like glass, because it’s snowmelt and there are so many little critters in the water that you can catch. But, more on that later. Lets take a look at the hike that is needed to get to Yukanom… …show more content…
Oh yeah, did I mention the amount of poison oak? Yeah, thats pretty much what my group and I had to go through for 2 hours. The amount of mosquitos is insane, but, we are by a lot water, still and moving, so that can be expected. But still, the mosquitos gave my 20, so definitely didn’t appreciate the mosquitos. But, after the two grueling hours, we finally
What's really important is to use bug spray, they get really annoying. I got at least like 50 bug bites, it was very, very, annoying. 150 more to go.
Have you ever been in a situation where you didn’t think you could do it? Well I have many times and I’m going to write about a time during Rodeo when I didn’t think I was going to be able to do well in goat tying.
Ebonics, which stands for Ebony + Phonics is a new term that Linguistics use to describe Black Dialect or Black English or many of the other names that it has been given for more than 350 years. Ebonics is a "language" that is a combination of "proper English" and a combination of African languages. This combination pattern was formed on how certain words are pronounced such as, this and that, would be pronounced dis and dat in Ebonics. In most Ebonics words with the "Th." sound has an "D" sound. These are just some of the many patterns that were created when Africans were forced to learn the English language. History states that around 1619, during the slave trade, ships collected slaves not just from one nation but
I never thought I would be labeled an outsider, a misfit even. As I trudged my way through the halls of my small town high school, I would endure the gazing pairs of eyes, that belonged to my peers, followed by whispering and often times some laughter. I always used zone out during those repetitive speeches and commercials about the effects of gossiping and rumors; never did I imagine that one day I would be on the receiving end of of the everyday potshot. Growing up I was always the center of attention, the one everyone yearned to be friends with, never was I the antisocial child in the corner with nowhere to turn… not until high school. They say high school changes you. They say high school accounts for some of the greatest years of
In order to psychologically analysis, The Tell-Tale Heart, readers must first connect the symptoms of the narrator to a disease. The narrator seems to have been going through a psychotic episode, which would be connected to him having brief Psychotic Disorder. The Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders 5th ed. states that “ in order to be classified as someone who has Brief Psychotic Episodes they must have one, or more, of the following symptoms, delusions, hallucination, disorganized speech, mood swings, etc. The must also have these symptoms present for at least one whole day but not more than a month.” They go on to say that a stressor may be involved in but is not necessary to cause a psychotic episode. During the short
For me to become a leaders at Chowan I would do the best of my ability to lead and show character upon the Chowan student body and the faculty. I will show honesty by following what I was taught in high school “‘Thy shalt not lie, cheat or steal”. I will go by the Honor code “I have neither given nor received help on this work nor have I witnessed anyone else do the same.” For example One time I challenged my self was when I was duck hunting with my grandfather in Currituck, NC. There was a debate going on with the Navy and the local farmers across eastern North Carolina. I made my own decision, back in North Carolina there was a protest going on it was called “No OLF” which meant No Outlying Landing Field. The government was trying to build
I’ve always been an outsider, it’s been hard for me to build friendships and relationships. Not too long ago, there I sat in the corner of the room in the way back, trying to hide from the world, and be myself. I didn’t really want to get involved with anything or anyone. I was afraid to open up, talk to others, maybe because I was afraid to get rejected. Until, I met the best people I could ever meet, my best friends Marisa Mendoza, Jessica Contreras and Deseray Reyes, the ones who up to this day have sticked by my side, at my best, and worst moments. They have all been a big part of my life, I can enjoy every minute I spend with them. For me, they aren’t only my friends they are like my sisters.
Kammi Kolanko is my mother and hero. She is 37 years old and works at a school as a substitute teacher in the Norwin Elementary School. She also lives in a house on 1180 Pinewood Road Irwin PA 15642. She helps me with my homework and makes sure I have everything ready for school in the morning each day. She also makes sure I have a good packed lunch for every day in school. She is a person who is an amazingly good and fast cook. She wants us, her kids, to not become selfish. She also wants us to lead productive lives. She hopes we can be kind people when we grow up.
Put the gun down! Put the gun down! Pow Pow Pow. The gun shots cracked into the air as loud as thunder. One after another. We live day by day not knowing our end. In the blink of an eye our lives can be changed forever. Its life, yet even in knowing this we never expect tragedy to find us. We never expect it to affect our lives and the people we know and love. I’m going to share with you the day tragedy found my life.
Although she hustled, stripped and set fire to hairspray cans with her tits out in bars across New York City for many years, it wasn’t until releasing her debut album in 2008 that Lady Gaga became a household name. Confused journalists didn’t understand her platinum hair bows, tiny leotards, and that purple teacup she used to bring with her everywhere she went. But she was an instant hit among pop fans, who became fascinated by her flashy sense of style, progressively creative music videos and uplifting determination to push boundaries in a pop arena. While Gaga herself was unquestionably odd, her music was not. When you look at the start of her career, the tracks were very catchy, repetitive, and synth-driven but they were insanely huge.
Growing up, I didn’t know much about Somalia, despite being Somali myself. I never saw Somali people being portrayed on screen and never learned about them in history class. This, paired with being the only Somali student in school, was why I never really felt the sense of pride that other people felt when it came to their ethnicity. My parents noticed this and thought it was essential for me to visit Somalia, leading to a trip during the summer of 2013, when I was 13 years old.
My Family and I were at home eating dinner. After dinner I told my mom that I had left something on top of the mountain, so she said “‘go up to get it Mary. But she didn’t want me to go alone so I went to go see if my friend was home but he wasn’t so I disobeyed my moms rules and went up by myself anyway. And it was starting to get dark so I had to get the base fast but I couldn’t find it. Now it was really dark and 2 hours had already passed and I couldn't my way off the mountain because it was so dark. And with my luck my phone died so I couldn’t call anyone for help, so I just started walking and walking after a little bit I realized I was getting nowhere so again I walked eventually I just fell and went to
Trying to find memories is like looking for treasure. You look at the surface and see something mediocre, but you dig deep and find something cool, pretty, and meaningful. It took a while to think of a fond memory, but once I thought of some, it was hard to choose a favorite. Growing up I have had many great experiences in the form of vacations. Between going to Disney World, owning a vacation home, hanging out with my grandparents in Arizona, traveling to Canada and more. They all make amazing memories that I will forever cherish. The vacation spot we go to the most, though, is Wisconsin Dells. A few times I have been allowed to invite friends to come with. When I am allowed to bring friends, it is always a ginormous amount of fun. We goof off in the hotel room, play in the arcades, and swim in the water parks.
My most significant experience in my life is unforgettable. I was there with my sisters, my mom, and my dad. It was the most horrifying event that I have ever witnessed. The daunting image in my head is still clear as day, as though it happened yesterday. This event did not affect only me, but also my family. The story that I am about to tell you may change the way you see things and it may not. All I can say is, it
My heart was thumping heavily, as the bus took a turn towards the mountains. I didn’t know why I had agreed, but it was too late to turn back.
