Although my writing process flows very well for me, while originally writing the poems I found myself in a very bad writers block. I feel as though I’ve been in a writers block for a couple months now but only recently got out of it and that is where the revisions for my pieces in this portfolio came from. This class really did help me find my own voice and how I want to write. It also helped me with my songwriting and it inspired me to make music which is what one of my goals and passions are as of right now. I also journal and sketchbook every single day and this class is what helped me get into the habit of it. Eventually I learned to just like to do it instead of it being a chore. From what my pieces show, my prefered writing technique …show more content…
Free verse made me feel a lot less tense and under pressure/stress because it allowed me to have no fear or expectation of what my writing was supposed to be like. I noticed that I used off rhyme a lot of the time and I also played around with the punctuation and capitalization of the poems. I did this not only for the presentation of the poems, but also for emphasis on what the poems were about. For example, in one of my poems I italicize the words me and you every time they are repeated. This is to show that the poem was about how my muse affected me. As for rhyming, I just liked to add enough rhyme for the poem to actually flow and I feel as though I definitely succeeded with that aspect. A lot of the pieces that I wrote for this portfolio are meant to either be said during spoken poetry or to be sang over music or some kind of beat which is why I wanted the structure and flow to actually work out. Overall I prefer my writing to seem as though I am talking to the reader in a very personal and casual way so that they feel more connected and related to what I am …show more content…
I took it with the anticipation that I would come out of it as a better writer and Ifeel like that goal has been achieved. Not only did the small check ups that we did in the beginning of the class every day help me open up, but also hearing other people's work when they volunteered to share gave me ideas for what I would want to write at the time. The poems that we would read in class also gave me inspiration in deciding which poems of mine I wanted to put into this final portfolio. For example, Hawk by Diana Adams was one of my favorite pieces that we analyzed and read in the class. I loved this poem mostly because of how abstract it was. It seemed as though it could have been telling multiple different stories in one because there were so many different ways of interpreting what the poem was really about. It was interesting watching the class all trip over each other because of our theories and thought on the poem and I believe that when a poem or piece of art sparks conversation like that, it is magical. This inspired me to try to make some of my final pieces more subjective than objective. Meaning I wanted my work to be more up to interpretation instead of the meaning of said poem being set in stone. The free verse writing that we analyzed in class that talked about a list of things that were lost or gained by a person also helped me in writing one of the pieces for my portfolio. The poem was titled,
What I have learned throughout the year about writing is that it is important to know how to write because you will need to use it for your everyday life, whether it is at school or at your work. My writing process I think that I have changed a little bit on it but I think I need to practice more so I can get better. What I have changed on my writing was that I need to make my writing sound good and that it makes sense. Why I made those changes because I want it to sound good and make sure that it makes sense to what I am being asked to write. My opinion on writing has not changed. My opinion hasn’t changed because I just don’t like to write and I find it boring.
During this spring semester, I have grown in many ways as a writer, and a student. I have started to realize, and accept the flaws that I have created in my writing. In the past, I never looked into my writings and saw my problems, and if I did, I did not accept that they were problems. In my writing pieces in the past, I was very hard-headed about what I thought was correct versus what was actually correct. I have also become More familiar with different formatting options on Microsoft Word to create a more professional piece or writing. However, figuring out all the parts of writing and making them work together is the most difficult part of writing.
Throughout the seven weeks that I have taken this writing composition course, I have developed skills to help me improve my own writing. Using the writing process is one of the main focuses in the course. The writing process helps writers develop and revise their essay as they work their way up to creating the final draft that can be presented. Although there are many areas in my own writing where I can get better, I have found that my writing has improved in many ways while practicing using the writing process.
I'm not the best when it comes do to writing well. I guess i feel like my writing doesn't sound “smart” it's not full of big words that the reader has to look up and learn more about.
My writing process starts when I am given an assignment. I’m not one to just write for fun, so this is usually the only way I can make myself write. Don’t let that fool you though, because once I start writing something and my ideas start flowing, it’s hard for me to stop. Personally, I love to be able to choose what I’m writing about. I don’t like getting assigned a topic, because that means everybody else has to write about the same topic and that ends up with everybody asking what I wrote in my paper and comparing it to theirs. I HATE when my writing gets compared to other peoples’, because we are all unique and different writers and we shouldn’t be so concerned about who stated certain facts better or got a higher grade.
Would you believe me if I told you that masters of any art still practice the skills that got them to where they are now? This might not come as a surprise to most, but success and perfection is measured in time. Repetition is key when talking about mastering skills. There are many steps that have helped me through my writing process. Thinking planning, and revision are skills that have made me a better writer. These skills are crucial for becoming a better writer because it decides the volume of my work and makes sure the reader understands my intent.
Al, Alde, de, shon, deshon, and Al’Deshon my name takes on many forms. Kind of like my writing in a sense. I have never been a strong writing also being the reason, I took this class first semester I think. If I get it out of the way maybe I’ll have an easier chance of reaching the finish line happening to be graduation.
My writing process in the past has never been concrete. It was even very rare that I had a process or even realized that I had a process going on. All I did was write without revision. For example, one time I had a research paper due the next day. I made the decision to take all of the examples I had, write it out, explain it, then give my take on the example, 30 minutes before it was due. Although it was littered with grammar mistakes, I got a passing grade. However, this anxious direction of writing held me back from creating great writing assignments and projects.Because I was being told constantly that I had "great ideas but terrible form" made writing extremely hard and close to depressing.
The first step of my writing process when I write a traditional essay consists of brainstorming. If a certain format is provided, I have to brainstorm the order of my key points. On the other hand, for some assignments I am given the specifics of what I need to talk about (like these Log Its) and even given subheadings which I must include to offer a professor better access and recognition of key parts. Once I begin to write, I never have in mind that what I write is a draft of any sort. Personally, I like to keep up with my grammar, spelling and punctuation as I go, so once I finish, the paper is pretty close to being finished with very few mistakes. Sometimes, I type a word that I doesn’t fit into the context but at that time, I have a couple of sentences in my had that I know will disappear if I don’t type them out, so I type (?) after the word to remember to find a synonym or change the word.
My writing style throughout junior year has changed drastically. With each essay my motivation to write better went down. I started to do the bare minimum with each essay. I did not do a rough draft or double check any of my work. My first essay I wanted to do a decent job so I can start the year off with a good start. I wrote very clearly and did what the prompt said. After that essay I did not care so much about what I had to do to get an A again. Yes, this is very irresponsible of me, but as the year went on I lost my drive to do better. I think as a writer I have gotten worse, because I did not write to my full potential.
My current writing process for the past few years has consisted of me being a 2:00 a.m writer. In all honesty, though, I can't recall a time where I chose to put a paper off; I couldn't get to it because I've been a busy bee. I am still going to be a busy bee, but I will have a set plan for papers and set my own deadlines apart from yours. I used to not be able to focus at home considering there are loud children here, but the perks of having a night class include doing homework in the morning when the kids are at school. I bought a desk in my room to remain in a more "school-zone feel" which aids me in concentrating better. As much as I would love to write until my paper is complete, I have to take a break every half an hour or else I will
Writing presents it’s own challenges to those who write books and articles daily; and to those who write less frequently. Getting around using punctuation, placing commas, and figuring out how to start an essay always seemed to be the biggest challenges for me. Through practice is the only way I’ve come to be masterful over my own writing style, even though there is always room for improvement. Because each time someone sits down to write a letter, article, or book; they are practicing their writing style and ultimately becoming better writers. Many people find writing to be a hassle or too cumbersome in a day in age of technology and the internet supplying information to the public so immediate, but everyone must overcome challenges that they
Throughout my school education, my writing process have improved but, not to the point where I’m proud of my writing skills. Although I always have difficulties when it comes to writing, I also like what I write specially when the topic relates to your personal life. One main thing that I do like about my writing is that I’m straightforward and clear to what I’m trying to explain. Many of my english teachers especially during high school, they have always told me that my writing is understandable but, is really hard for me to organize my ideas. Organizing my ideas into an essay is a challenge for me because I have always struggle with that and I would like to improve it because is a really important step in the writing process. When it comes
Poetry is my passion and I can't imagine my life without it. It all started in 10th grade when I started writing and found what I was good at. I found this a way of using my creative, vibrant voice, and emotions with the world in which I lived made me feel alive. Through poetry, I could comfortably express myself. Metaphor, language, meaning, word choice, emotions, similes, rhyme scheme, and structure, molded together, made my poems. I'd hold a pencil in my hand, landing on each line of the stanza, making sure I was writing bigger than myself. One of the poems I wrote was so meaningful to me because being overweight was something I've been struggling with till this day. My poem was called: "Society Craves Perfection".
In my biography I referenced that it is the small things that influence a person and become revealed through their character. Writing is very much the same way. Though writings may seem lackluster and un-inspirational, there are almost always circumstances and deeper meanings behind an author 's work that influence their decision in the writing process. Once I contextualized the content and examined the circumstances that influenced their poems, they became immensely more interesting. I have included my poetry
