I don’t think our vision need to be changed. I think we need to recommit to the vision. There is a passivity that is taking place. This passivity permits the church to run amok. If we continue down this road, we will never church growth. There has to be action taken and it has to be aggressive. Once leaders are trained they would have to take on more teaching responsibilities. Leaders should be producing other leaders, in turn; more programs could be initiated as new members joined the church. The organization and professionalism that the trained leaders operate in will attract others. Personally, I would desire to be Pastor Washington’s overseer. This would allot me autonomy to erect new initiatives. First, I would develop a faith lesson
The person I chose to shadow, for this project, was my Pastor. His name is Roy Miller. He has been the Methodist pastor of my church for two years now. He is a generous and humble man that is willing to help anyone in anyway he can. He always has a job to do, whether it be in the church or around the church community. He especially enjoys mentoring and volunteering his time with the youth and children of our church.
The consultant spoke of visiting churches like ours and found that people many times didn’t want change because “that’s the way we have always done it”!
As part of the office staff at my church, I would draft letters to inform the church members of upcoming events and I would create programs that will allow the members to follow along with the Pastor as he's speaking. I would also keep a record of each members' donations and would mail their report to them at the end of the year for their tax records.
Reverend Reynolds is a civil rights activist and president of SCOPE. He was a staff member with SCLC during pivotal years of the civil rights movements. Reverend Reynolds had the opportunity, while working on a project in Birmingham, to meet and work alongside Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. He set up a multitude of boycotts, demonstrations, and voting registration while fighting for freedom and dignity. In 2010, his family moved to South Carolina and he started to speak about his experiences.
On Sunday, November 13, 2016, I visited the Kennedy Road Tabernacle church on 141 Kennedy Rd N, Brampton, ON L6V 1X9 at 8:00 am. This denomination was Christian and I had no experience or background knowledge about Christianity, other than what I have learned in school. I decided to go on a Sunday because I knew many people go on Sundays and it would be a good experience. From my knowledge, Christianity is a monastic religion, that is the belief in one god, and he made things rule over history (Esposito, & Lewis). They also believe that God is higher than everyone, and should not be placed after someone else. They believed that Jesus was born Nazareth in the northern Galilee region on December 25, also the same day as Christmas. Jesus was crucified
May 1, 2016, the Mt. Olive Baptist Church, located in Greenwood (S.C.) County will celebrate its 142nd church anniversary. Many years Mt. Olive have been a church that loved people, gave without limits and took great care of its members. The last five of those one hundred and forty-two years, I have been honored to serve as pastor of this great church. Although this is a great church, Mt. Olive and many churches like it are plagued with a disease that has slowly, but surely, causing the church to drift further away from God and fall deeper into the ways of the world. This epidemic is known as “tradition”. Churches that are bound by tradition and not led by the Holy Spirit will find themselves missing the mark of what God has called us to do. The bible is filled with instructions for the church, but as Christians and Disciples of Christ, Matthew 28 is the foundation upon which we should be operating on in the church as well as in our lives. The Great Commission challenges us to “go, teach and preach to all nations.” Traditional churches will allow church tradition to dictate biblical doctrine. It will allow the church to argue about who’s right instead of what’s right. Sadly, church success has been based on structure and finances rather than saving lost souls.
A church whose pastor and others in leadership have failed to put in place a proactive plan for discipleship for Believers is usually a “growing” church — growing stagnant, growing cold, growing spiritually immature Christians, and eventually, many growing closed. Patte said, “There is much at stake in accepting or rejecting the challenge of discipleship…” When a pastor or a church makes a conscious decision to make discipleship of Believers a primary focus in their
In the following essay I will be talking about the disadvantages and advantages of partisan elections for state politics. I will also examine the last couple year's election results and costs. Finally, I will discuss if partisanship made a difference in the vote, as well as if a judge should be decided by partisan vote. In the next couple paragraphs I will talk more specifically about these topics.
I attend Gospel Light Freewill Independent Baptist Church in Thomasville, NC. It’s a relatively small church, with about 50-70 people on a Sunday morning. My grandmother, my aunt, and my uncle attend this church as well. I consider myself to be a child of God and a true “born again” Christian. Being “born again” means that one has accepted God into their heart and has been changed on the inside. I accepted him into my heart on October 9th, 2012. Growing up strictly in an independent Baptist church, I didn’t know that other churches were different, at least not until I visited my boyfriend’s church which is Southern Baptist. My pastor preaches heavily on hell-fire and brimstone. He walks up and down the altar, yelling and jumping. There are
The vision that would come from that if we are successful is that we will begin to see things change for the better. We would see lower crime. We would see lower poverty. We would see lower divorce rates. We would see lower abortion rates. We would see more intact families. We would see safer communities. We would see more economic development and less unemployment. We would see tangible indicators that the society is actually changing because the people of God have risen up, unified with the power of heaven, and brought about transformation on the land. That is the vision that I see, and that is how it would be measured, by tangible things that affect real
"To be a Church of servant-leaders where the love of God is preached, taught and demonstrated; where the boundaries of God's love are extended to those outside the Christian faith." 1John4:8
William Pickton is not behaving the same as normal people in the society he resides in. He has murdered over twenty people, but doesn’t show any evident psychological defect, except for the fact that he may be a serial killer. There could be basic reasons for becoming a serial killer, such as revenge, or serious psychological problems, as a result from a trauma.
It is of the belief that one of the great things about being a citizen of the United States of America is, freedom. It is also the belief that freedom is one of the reasons that citizenship in America is highly sought by individuals from other countries wanting to escape the limitations and restrictions of freedom governed by their native country. The United States of America’s Constitution of 1787, was created to form the government while incorporating basic law with the promise to provide fixed freedoms to the American people (Rosen & Rubenstein, 2014). It was determined however, that additions needed to be made to the Constitution that furthered American’s freedom with limitations that the government could impose on them, thus the proposition
A sentiment common to almost any organization is that the one fact that remains constant is change. As society changes, and human understanding grows, any organization that maintains a static posture, assures its demise. Churches and Christian organizations are no exception. The gospel may remain the same, but the method for communicating it must speak to the audience to assure understanding. The Christian leader must be prepared to meet this challenge by incorporating an effective model for change into his theology of leadership in order to keep the ministry relevant and effective. Searching for such a change agent can prove to be challenging as well. To aid in this search, four
I pastor a church in a rural town with the population less than 2,500. When you think of being a pastor, you have a big vision. You want the church that is large, great youth ministry, and people coming to faith in Christ each service. However, most pastors do not encounter this reality, and it can be damaging to have such a vision. My vision for the church and my ministry is
