What is a good leader ? A good leader needs to be someone people can look up to, and trust. A good leader should also be intelligent and trustworthy. I have been the Vice President of the Mendocino Spartan 4-H Club for two years, and hope to be president next year. And I know what it takes to be a good leader. Some of the qualities I had to learn where to include everybody, including the younger kids. And how to make people feel confident in me even when I wasn't confident in myself. The hardest thing for me, was to be responsible and prepared, it is really important so I had to learn, I asked for help from all the great leaders in our community.

I think that it is crucial that you are an honest, responsible and genuine student. I believe my actions as a student represent my values. I work hard to put my best foot forward and I know that it shows in my studies and actions. Your character is what sets you apart for others. Qualities of leadership are an important aspect of being a National Honor Society member. I show leadership in both the classroom and in the community. I have taken on leadership roles in school such as class president, class treasurer, and taking on primary roles in a majority of class projects. But I also take on roles in the community by being secretary of the Broken Bow Library Teen Advisory Board and volunteering at the Anselmo-Merna Youth Volleyball Camps. But to be an effective leader you have to be a positive role model and have ethical values, and I believe I possess both important qualities. A good leader inspires people to better themselves. I feel I am a good candidate for the National Honor Society because I have leadership experiences in refereeing youth soccer games, volunteering in the Big Brothers Big Sisters program, and taking Links, which is a class that helps students with autism in their classes. While referring children's soccer games I had to pick and choose the calls that I had to make so the kids could learn the game but also have fun playing the game. Even though some kids didn't like it, I had to be a sense of authority to them to make sure none of them got hurt when playing soccer. When I go to visit my little brother, for the Big Brothers Big Sisters program, I help him with his homework, and also make it fun

This has kept me out of many of the elected leadership positions in our school. However, there are many other ways that I exemplify my role as a leader. One of these ways is by being a part of athletics. I have always felt like a leader in this environment, as I have always exceeded at sports. As an underclassman, I would be the one who helped out with cleaning up, and pushed my teammates to get better. Being apart of these smaller groups allows me to feel more comfortable when leading others. Firstly, in my Academic Career, I have held a multitude of leadership roles. My sophomore year , I was a class representative for Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America, commonly known as FCCLA. It was my duty to alert members and keep them up to date regarding meetings and activities. As a representative of FCCLA, I learned how to work as a unit leader and a team member.That same school year, I ran for the district office of secretary for FCCLA. To begin, I exhibit qualities of a great leader. Firstly, at my Saturday morning bowling league, I am positioned as the anchor, which means I am expected to lead my team to victory.. Secondly, I lead by being a good example to my peers, and I am a positive role model. Lastly, when my friends have problems they come to me and I lead them to a positive solution. The qualities of a good leader include, bravery, compassion, and the ability to stay (relatively calm) in stressful situations. I once read someone that ‘a person who wants power should not be a leader’, which I believe is a very important quality of a leader. A power-hungry person would not make decisions in the best interest of the people they are in charge of, but of their own best interests. An NJHS member should have the ability to be a leader, because someone who has such an honor is more likely to be given leadership in a stressful or even dangerous situation, and a person with the intellect is more likely to go into politics. An NJHS member with poor leadership skills, who decides to go into politics would have a difficult time making decisions on the behalf of a city, state, or even the country. I like to think that I demonstrate leadership in a few ways. I excel at doing well in stressful situations. For challenge science, we have fairly long tests, and fairly short periods. Finishing the test and getting a high grade are two very stressful parts of test taking, but I do not let the stress interfere with my test taking.
