Personal Narrative: State Fair Community College

“Take your base,” yelled the umpire as Kevin was hit with a pitch on his back. Kevin trotted at a snail's pace down to first base, his face was filled with agony as he grabbed his rib cage. As the game proceeded the pain from the pitch increased but Kevin thought it would eventually go away so he played through it. The game went on and it was close all the way till the end but the Stars pulled out the victory. They are now the 2016 South Carolina 2A High School baseball Champions. After I graduate from Community College of Philadelphia, I plan to attend a four-year university. I want to receive my bachelor’s degree in accounting. I have a few schools to choose from. The school I am going to transfer to is Temple University. I am choosing Temple because it is close to home, it has a good accounting program, and to continue a legacy.

My decision to attend Trinity Valley Community College was influenced by two primary objectives. One was to conserve funds, as this is one of the most useful features of community colleges. The second objective was to maintain a 4.0 GPA. This is where I failed.

During admission into Bronx Community College, I faced one of the most stressful predicaments academically. After applying, and having my transcripts mailed, I waited about two weeks before calling to ensure the transcripts were received. An admission counselor confirmed all transcripts were received and in the process of being reviewed. Five weeks later, during the first week of registration, I was informed one of the transcripts had been misplaced. Avoiding any further delay, I hand delivered the missing transcript. A few weeks later, I received a registration appointment. I was put on a list, received a number, and waited 9am to 5pm on a line for two days until my name was called. My first year at Jamestown Community College as a student, I accomplished making Part-time Dean’s List two semesters back to back. Beginning college that year my personal goal was to strive making new habits to get the best experience out of college, while keeping up with my grades. I took classes to guide me through learning paths, but it they taught me ways of accomplishing what you wanted out of life and other significant information in classes. Well my journey starts out just like most high schoolers. I graduated for high school in May of 2012. I got ready to start my next chapter in my life at Iowa Central Community College. I had no clue what I was going to major in. I knew only one thing that I wanted to play football in college, and get my education payed for free. Also I wanted to make it to the highest level in football to play at the FBS level. Some things I had to do to reach that goal where be a good football player as well as a great student. I shortly figured out that I was going to just do essential studies and graduate.

When I was a senior in high school my father had his second heart attack and had to have open heart surgery. Upon Graduation from High School in May 2016, I made the decision to move in with my Father who is a sixty-eight-year-old Disabled Vietnam Veteran with many health issues. During my Freshman year at Pearl River Community College, his health had declined and the doctors discovered that he had an aneurysm in his chest and blockages in his legs. Thankfully after his surgery was completed and he was able to come back home, I was to be on break so I could stay with him and help with whatever he needed. This is a personal narrative that I wrote for my CSU application, and this piece helped me get accepted into Colorado State University. I wrote this piece completely outside of class during the first semester of my senior year. I didn’t take this to a teacher conference, but this is a piece that I am very proud of because I feel like the writing represents my person voice and not a character. However I had trouble figuring out how to put my thoughts into words, but I worked through the confusion and now my word choice flows very nicely.

All decisions come with consequences, whether they are good, or bad. I believe that G-d has everything to do with the decisions I, and, others make in this world. If I get into some sort of trouble, G-d wanted me in that trouble, to teach me a lesson for the future. If I do something positive, someone then later phrases you, by doing something good to you. In light of being denied the Federal Pell Grant from applying for the FAFSA, I will now rely upon grants from scholarships I have been applying for. Along with my own money from future jobs and my family's contributions to my education. For the past year and still continuing, I have received money from my family in order to save up for college. Money that I received during daily responsibilities around the house. No matter the quantity, due to the fact that I am unemployed. A great impact that I witnessed that year is when I took the school field trip to numerous colleges close to the city. I had never been to a university or even a community college. Therefore, me going to those visit gave me a greater idea on what type of college I'd like to attend. One of the colleges I remembered we toured to was Lakeland Community College. I really liked the aspects that it has, with the classrooms even the on campus living. Taking trip like that sets your mind up but also prepares you to know what to expect and look for when you are college searching.

My plan for college is to attend the local community college, College of the Desert. I plan to get my education there while I save up money to move to Los Angeles. I do not know what I plan to do with my life after college, but that is the very reason I am going to college. I need to be introduced to different thing s so that I can decide what I want to do with my life. My objective for further education is to introduce myself to what I will eventually be doing for the rest of my life.
