The Colorado History Museum was a phenomenal place to visit; it felt life like from being in my Colorado History class in college as well as in my high school ones. I had the ability to see what it was like living in Keota, as well as being a huge size person walking around the Denver area, and lastly saw a few pieces of clothing that were the Native Americans during Bent’s Fort. Every detail in the museum I tried paying attention too, because I did not want to miss anything.
The first display I attended, was called Destination Colorado in which the town of Keota was located. I truly enjoyed it because I experienced what it was like being a part of that relatively small “eastern prairie town” of about 140 people. As a matter of fact, I visited
Wright museum my feelings were totally different. Although I admired everything about the museum, I grew more and more emotional the more I explored. The experience itself was a great eye opener for me. I have always been well aware of Black History and slavery, but seeing and walking through replicas of what my ancestors endured - was overwhelming. I saw models of slaves, stacked on top of each other, smothered, cluttered into small spaces on a makeshift slave ship. I saw images of the brutality and the abuse that slaves endured. The most interesting thing of all was that I learned about Africa, their minerals and resources, their rainfall and vegetation, and the rest of the continent before the begin of the slave trade - understanding the root of it all. I was also privileged to learn the “Daily Routine” of a
My grandmother Lynne Murphy is who I chose to interview for my heritage project. This summer at a family birthday party I was speaking short phrases in Spanish while joking around with my dad. My grandmother, sitting beside us, joined in the conversation and starting speaking fluent Spanish. I had no idea she could speak Spanish, so I asked her, “How can you speak Spanish?” Before answering my question she laughed. She went on to tell me that she lived in South America for many years as a teenager. I didn’t have the chance to learn anymore about her childhood until this project was assigned. When I learned we were to focus on a family member’s experience growing up, I immediately thought about my grandmother and the interesting life she seemed
On 12/06/16, at 5:18pm, I Deputy Warden N. Christian was dispatched 1496 Blaine Drive on a dog at large, patrol only. I arrived in the area and saw a brown and white pit bull running loose. I took pictures of the dog loose. I proceeded to follow the pit bull down Blaine Drive, the dog stop at 1494 Blain Drive. I exited my vehicle and slowly approached the house. I knocked on the dog and received no answer. Due to large amount to construction material and debris around the property I was unable to secure the dog on property. I placed a leash on the dog and put the dog in my vehicle. I left a door notice at that location to contact the shelter if the dog belongs to the occupant of that house. I transported the dog to Franklin County Animal
At the Kansas Museum of History, they had a giant train on display. My favorite thing in the museum was where it talked about the Air Capital which is in Wichita KS. They had a lot of old planes that looked pretty neat.
Visiting the Mitchell Museum of the American Indian was a great experience. At first walking into the museum we found there to be many artifacts and examples of the Indians used in their daily lives. Walking around the museum it was nice to see all the items we spoke and read about in class. My first impressions were that the museum would be born but seeing and reading about something is very different and being able to capture the real beauty of Indian lives was a great experience.
For my first of two field experiences I chose to visit the San Diego History Center located at Balboa Park down in San Diego. There were numerous different exhibits that were on display at the time all relating to the some aspect of the history of San Diego. Most of the exhibits had to do with the roles that different ethnic groups played in the history of San Diego. Some of the groups represented included African Americans, Japanese, and Jewish people. There was another exhibit called “Lore Behind the Roar” which gave detailed information and history regarding the San Diego Zoo. There were also displace of menus from the San Diego Area that dated back to WWII and before.
When I was younger, my dad and I used to go on dates to the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art. Although I haven’t been there for over five years now, I still remember one piece of art that took my breath away; not because of the beauty of the artwork, but because of the shiver it sent down my spine, and the uneasy feeling I had when I looked at it. The piece of art that made me so apprehensive was a wax model of a museum security guard. The intricate detail of the figure, including the pores in the skin and the hair on the knuckles, left me wondering if this man were going to suddenly leap forward and yell, “Gotcha!”
Colorado, known for the Rocky Mountains, is a gorgeous place to be. The rectangular state rich with wildlife, covers 104,185 square miles. In the black timber, it is dark and silent, not a sound to be heard. The thick pine trees block out most of the sunlight, only to see about seventy-five yards. The terrain is brutal, almost straight up and down, but the elk love it because it is a challenge for hunters to see them. As I walk my favorite ridgeline in the black timber, I watch for the slightest movement and listen for the smallest crack. Watching thirteen-lined ground squirrels run around and chase each other can be humorous when they fall down from trees. My adrenaline pumps and heart races at a million miles per hour as I wait patiently
On the fifteenth of this month I went to the Arizona Military Museum. It is located within the Papago park military reservation off of McDowell in Phoenix. I went to it with my brother and his girlfriend. The museum had so much to look at since there was artifacts from so many different wars. Some of the wars on display were the: Mexican-American War, World War I, World War II, Vietnam War, Global War on Terrorism, and Iraq War. There were displays going back as far as the Spanish colonial period to the present. All of the displays were filled with artifacts such as: guns, ammo, uniforms, communication devices, knives, explosives, and medical equipment. They even had a helicopter and jeep from the Vietnam war. I had expected the museum to be
This weekend I went to the Figge Art Museum to celebrate and learn about Dia de los Muertos with my friend Grace. While there, I learned that Day of the Dead is celebrated from October 31st through November 2nd and it originated in Mexico. I saw that you can celebrate Day of the Dead by putting things people liked when they were living, such as a drink, food, flowers, sports jerseys, even a box of cereal, in a shrine for them. Some people paint their faces to look like skulls with pretty or meaningful designs on them in color or in black and white and people decorate sugar skulls that you can eat with frosting. Crafts are also a big part of Day of the Dead. While Grace and I were at the Figge we saw several paper mache statues of skulls doing
I am glad that I got to Philadelphia Art Museum, I would have never have visited if I never took that class, it made me appreciate art more. I remember being excited seeing the familiar statue and art painting, that I learned in class. And explaining to my brother the history and meanings behind each art that I was familiar with. This trip was a great experienced for me I had a great time spending my time
Since I was little, I have been struggling to find the way to my future. I ultimately lost interest in each prospective career I considered. Despite my extensive soul searching, I never seemed to find the perfect fit. That was until we took a trip to a museum that became life changing.
My experience to the Dallas Museum of Art was a bit different from the last time I had attended the museum. I was curious to see what pieces of art there would be and if it would be the same as the previous visit which was long ago, but to me all the pieces of art were so different and very interesting. It may have been because I saw all the pieces in a new perspective since learning about the different types of paintings there can be and knowing how and where sculptures come from. Even though I do not know much of art I really gave it a try into seeing what the artist may have wanted us to get out of his work. By reading a view of the chapters made me aware of art, I wouldn’t call myself an expert, but it was actually nice knowing that a
When I visited the De Young Museum, I found a lot of postmodernism architectures and sculptures. After took off the bus, the first sight is the full picture of De Young Museum and the twist tower. Through the analysis of the structure of twist tower, the designer cut off the entity, to add, to reshape and to deform the modeling. Then divided them into modules stratified, partially distorted, and eventually became a postmodern architecture. This is the so-called deconstruction. The main idea is to use nonlinear or non Euclidean geometry to form the deformation of the relationship between architectural elements.
As the summer progressed, I made my rounds through the Children’s Museum. I was immediately pulled in a million directions, from teaching kids about magnetism at the Science Station, to leading groups in competitive racing games. Each day, I would show up at opening, and would not leave until the museum was put back in order for the next day, despite being only a volunteer. Additionally, I would spend the day engaging families from different corners of the globe, exercising my rusty French, and learning a few words in Galician.
