Personal Narrative: The Criminal Justice System

I have been in a few school activities. One of the main activities that I have been involved in is Color guard. Since my sophomore year, I have been on the guard and participating in all of the competitions with the band. It is a great way to get involved, make new friends, and create new experiences. I am also in my school’s National Honor Society which is an organization that consists of the top academic scholars. We do volunteer work and do activities that display integrity. We have done blood drives as well as packaged food for Kids Against Hunger. That is another organization that people can do to help package food for children across seas that don’t have any source of nourishment. I am an active thespian which is a group of sorts that is dedicated to the fine arts. I have been one since my freshmen year and have been either stage manager or assistant stage manager for two plays and three musicals. My junior year as well as this year I was involved in National

I’m Molly McDaniel and I’m currently a junior at New Brockton High School. I’ve lived in and attended school in New Brockton my entire life, so my Gamecock Pride runs deep. My home is just out of the city limits and I live there with my mom and dad (Christy and Mike) and my little brother, Cole. I also have two dogs, Bonnie and Bandit.

I have been involved in many activities through my high school years. I ran cross country for 4 years then became a manager, which means I still ran at practice but at meets I helped the coaches with various things. I’ve been playing softball since I was 5 and have always loved it. From fifth to twelfth grade I have been on student council and working to make our school a better place. This year I became the vice president of National Honor Society. Getting to work with the community and helping with NHS has changed my life.

The midnight sky is pitch black with only a slight gleam of light emanating from the moon. The night is so silent that even a pin drop could be heard from miles away. No one is stirring and the world has drifted off into a deep sleep. The night seems blissfully peaceful. But the silence is torn by the sound of rustling leaves in the distance. Two dark shadows emerge from the forest and gaze heavily at the sleeping house. The two figures slowly creep towards the house with devious thoughts racing through their minds. They begin to tear open the window screen and quietly crawl into the house. A flashlight pierces through the darkness and flutters through the rooms. The figures begin to rummage through the house and fill their hands with wealth.

On 04/18/2016 I assisted Sgt. Patterson on a traffic stop in the 900 block of East K-53 HWY, Sumner County, Kansas. When I drove past I observed an older four door passenger vehicle stopped on the north side of the road with Sgt. Patterson's patrol vehicle behind it with emergency equipment activated. I turned around of K--53 and pulled in behind Sgt. Patterson, I activated my rear emergency lights and walked to the passenger side window of Sgt. Patterson's patrol vehicle. In the vehicle he had stopped I could see two white males sitting in the front driver and passenger seats, Sgt. Patterson was already back in his vehicle and was running the occupants information with SUCO 911. Sgt. Patterson told me that the passenger was moving around

Throughout high school, I have participated in numerous school sports and activities. Cross county had a tremendous impact on my life and the lessons I have learned from the sport I will perpetually cherish. Another activity I have been a part of for three years is yearbook. I am the senior editor of the yearbook and have, thus, learned to engage my leadership skills. Additionally, choir is an activity I am passionate about. Singing is an escape from the chaos of my day and I revel in the joy it brings me. Furthermore, my two friends and I brought forth the idea of a cross country ski club at our school, and we initiated its formation.

During freshman year of high school, I was one of those kids that would be involved in every clubs/organizations. I was part of the Environmental club, UN model, National Honor Society, History League, Community Service Club, Math Club, and others. My favorite organization was UN model. With that organization I learned about many different countries that I would never thought I would be interested.

The first time I ever visited UC Berkeley I heard these chants, saw these signs, and felt the anger as I protested that black lives matter alongside students and locals. Two months later I return to UC Berkeley for a debate tournament and make it to the elimination rounds for the first time in a Lincoln Douglas event. One year later and I attend an empowering women of color conference that sparks my passion for social justice and my love for learning about race and gender inequality. My trial was hard and brutal. The hardest thing was to see that people, that I didn’t even know, want me dead for something that I am physically not capable of doing. You all know me, and who I really am. Most of you probably don’t care about what I have to say, and most of you don’t care what happens to me, but I know some of you do truly believe me. I was framed, and the evidence even proves that I didn’t do it, but no one believes a black man .I mean how could I choke a strong woman like Mayella, and keep her down to where she can’t get up, with my crippled arm. I would never do such a thing to anyone, and I hope you all know that. This justice system is not fair, and I knew there would be no way out of this mess.
