From the early beginning of the school year to the current day, my writing skills and knowledge have improved and broadened over time. If not drastic, the change is noticeable nevertheless. For almost an entirety of eighth grade, assignments of varying difficulty challenged me to a degree. To be frank, some seemed as though they were beyond my comprehension and ability. However, determination amalgamated with knowledge obtained in advance helped me to overcome my doubts, for I exceeded my expectations; surprisingly good grades and comments are a delight, owing to the fact of that I don’t tend to think of myself as being proficient at writing. Consequently, the assignments given to me this school year shaped me into who I am as a writer. …show more content…
One of the aspects that especially fascinated me is that I had an extensive spectrum of choices on the types of oppression to write about. With this advantage at hand, the assignment allowed me to completely express my thoughts and feelings on oppression to which I can somewhat relate - sexism. Not only does the Current Events Assignment let me voice my opinion, but I was also able to inform and educate my audience about real-life examples of oppression - for instance, the experiences that the author of the article about sexism in schools had gone through; her article inspired the topic, since it vividly described how she felt when she discriminated and prejudiced in college solely because of her gender. Moreover, Current Events Assignment gave me a chance to feel as though I’m helping to debunk the misleading stereotypes engraved in the society’s mind. Even though it’s nothing more than an assignment, by teaching the audience about women’s oppression gives me hope that the word will eventually spread, and women’s equality will be closer to realization than ever. In summary, Current Events Assignment allowed me to elaborate on my feelings about women’s oppression, hence why I enjoyed this particular assignment out of many
Throughout the course of freshmen year I have developed different skills and opinions on writing. I feel I have created a more mature style of writing and a better understanding of literature. I have changed my view of writing over this semester and acquired a strong liking for it. The importance of writing has become more visible throughout the past few months. Writing is crucial in many aspects of a person’s life. I have grown to be a more powerful and well built writer throughout this course.
Walking away from everything you once knew and starting over is never a picnic. Leaving Iraq, and moving to America has impacted my life more than anything. I was only 4 years old at that time, and the only English I spoke was “excuse me, water please.” My family and I did not know it then, but our lives were going to change; we would become “Americanized”. Learning English was one of the massive changes that occurred, the way I dressed (culture), and even the way I had power to go to school and educate myself.
As a writer, I have improved tremendously. Over the course of the 2015 fall semester, English 015 has helped me grow as a writer in all ways possible. From hearing Dr. Duffy’s wise words regarding writing throughout class, to participating in peer review sessions, writing has become a skill that I have flourished in. As a child, I would constantly write stories and poems to express my feelings and emotions. Sadly enough, I can admit that as a lonely child, writing was my only companion and confidant. As an eight year old child, I found myself writing stories about the individuals in or around my life. After creating a satire about my mother’s workplace and the employee’s who worked there, I knew I had a gift regarding writing. I watched my
When I was first hired I was told I would have 30 days from the start day to sign up for benefits. The date by which I had to sign up by was 03/20/16 a Sunday; I tried to get on, on the 03/18/16, but it would not let me. I called the helpline to get my password reset to gain access to the online portal; whenever I received access it said there were no available sessions for enrollment. My manager informed me to come in on Saturday 03/19/16 and he would help me further, he was not able to locate it either. He then informed me to make a benefits appeal, because I had tried to get enrolled before the cutoff date. I have two pictures, to show the information that was displayed and the date. Thank you for your time and
I walk into the mall, and barely contain my excitement as I march directly over to my favorite store. Hot Topic. I look around and see absolute heaven. My favorite song begins to play on the radio; there is dyed hair and band tees every which way. Where do I begin? Hi, I’m Chloe Pelshaw, a student in the 8th grade at Silver Hills Middle School. Over the years more people have discovered this astounding store. Although, with these new customers comes two new problems. Space and organization. Ways you could improve these issues are expanding your stores and making the products more organized.
Have you ever had something you were “super passionate” about be stripped away from you? Roughly one and a half years ago I started my sophomore year of lacrosse. The lineup of students on the lacrosse team this year promised us a spot in the championship. Throughout fall practices, the majority of the sophomore class played amongst the varsity team. As the season ramped up in the spring, we waited for our first game against Saint John Paul’s Christian Academy. First game of the year, we enveloped ourselves into the game and became one as a team. Running downfield with a clear, open shot on the goal “whoosh” I shot the ball bottom right, a bare miss. Suddenly “crash” I was hit from both sides and struggled to stay standing. As I came to my
Let me introduce myself, I was born here in Utah but spent most of my life outside of the state. My early memories of living in Utah were good. I remember having birthday parties with my cousins and my extended family would all be there, we went to family events on holidays and felt close with my family. My family moved to North Dakota just after kindergarten, that being the place my dad decided to attend law school.
I enlisted into the United States Navy and shipped off to boot camp on January 1, 1996. The Navy gave me an opportunity to escape a small town, stand on my own, and grow as a person. My first duty assignment was in Millington, Tennessee working as an administrative assistant to the Officer in Charge of Personnel Support Detachment, Memphis. I could never say the roads I took in life were easy, but looking back over the years every stop along the way had a purpose and I have been truly been blessed.
An important part of every humans life is having something they believe in. Having something to care about is essential for people to reach their full potential in life. People need a special person in their life, or a great job that sparks passion in them to bring them happiness. There are many of these types of passions in my life but to better understand who I am, there isn't just one, there are three people who have shaped the young adult I am today. My two little sisters and my little brother. However they aren't exactly normal siblings, they were given to us by the City of Cincinnati for temporary care, while their mothers tried to recover from heroin addiction and battled in court to explain why their child was hospitalized because of a lack of food.
How was today.. Honestly, who knows because i sure as hell don’t know and it really, really bothers me. I just felt numb today, like you know when you go to the dentist and he’ll numb your mouth to pull out a tooth or something, that’s how i felt but it was all over. Like i couldn’t care, like i couldn’t be bothered to care today. I mean i guess it was an okay day at first but i still felt numb and i really want to know why. I’ve also been really tired lately and sleeping in really late which also bothers me but that’s a problem for another day. For right now i want to figure out why i felt like that and if it’ll ever come back and bit me in the ass one day. By the end of the day i was just so exhausted and drained that i couldn’t give a damn
This Christmas, when I first walked into my grandparent’s house, I noticed something I hadn’t before: the house’s familiar smell. Describing it is difficult, but it smelt like comfort and childhood and all the wonderful things I love to reminisce about on cross-country car rides. Realizing I have smelt, heard, or experienced something before is undoubtedly one of my favorite sensations.
“I will allow you to go to over Mackenzie’s sleepover as long as you promise to watch PG-13 or younger”, my mom yell up the base of the stairs from the kitchen.

Early one morning in the summer of finishing packing my luggage and my carryon packing a my favorite sweater it was pink my favorite color it's a really soft and cozy sweater . I was three years old, when everything in my life changed. The most significant about this tragic event is that not all heroes wear capes. And I’m glad to say that I’m very lucky that my superman did not wear a cape and it was my step dad. I always ask myself that god gave me another opportunity to do the best in life and succeed because you don't know when life can take you away.
Throughout my senior year, I have had to write every day in Mrs.Stueve’s English class. With the help of writing every day while also writing longer essays, I have grown as a writer. I have not only gotten better with grammar, but my passion for writing has also improved over time. In this portfolio, you will find four examples of my essays throughout the year and be able to witness my growth as a writer for yourself. These papers include the first paper I ever wrote in this class, a research essay, my first final of this class, and the best essay I have written in this class.
