The Fields
Last summer I wanted to work and earn a little cash and distract myself and not be home all summer. I didn't know where to apply so I applied everywhere I was even open to working in the fields my parents told me that the fields were the last place they ever wanted me to work. My mom and step dad Raul always told me that field work wasn't easy and that it was not for me but I didn't listen.
I had never worked before so a week after school was out and we were on summer vacation I decided to get out of the house and work all summer like a normal teenager would. I went out to fast food restaurants, grocery stores, warehouses, and small businesses. And then I finally got call from a restaurant in warden called The Corral I was interviewed

As I was talking she had this serious look on her face it kinda freaked me out a little because my mom is really strict and I didn’t know what to expect from her. "ok" she said I was so confused why am I not getting a life lesson right now? "ok?" I asked. "yeah but when Raul gets home you're going to have to tell him too" I rolled my eyes so far behind my head that I swear I saw my brain because Raul is the type of person that will talk for hours about a subject that’s not even related to your yes or no question. "ok" I said and just as I expected after i told Raul he started talking about how that type of work isn't made a person like me and then started talking about when he was younger and started off working in the fields helping his parents on the ranch, it was the same story that I he tells us all the time and I was over …show more content…
We sat in the shade and waited "did we just get fired?" Bianca asked "I think so" said Roxanne "Thank god, I was about to cry out there" I said we all started laughing and joking about why we might have gotten fired when Roxanne's dad came he was told that we weren't doing our work but we didn't care we were all just happy to be out of there. When I got home my mom and Raul were already home and asked me about how it went. When they heard about what had happened they just laughed at me and "we told you you'd hate it" they said "ok let's go to Moses we have to get some stuff" my mom said so there I was again heading to Moses Lake and my parents still joking about how me and my friends got fired on our first day and then it was like an answer to my problems I got a call from Skone and Connors a warehouse in warden. "who was that?" My mom asked "Skone and Connors, they want me to go in tomorrow for an interview" my mom was
Growing up with a father in the military, you move around a lot more than you would like to. I was born just east of St. Louis in a city called Shiloh in Illinois. When I was two years old my dad got the assignment to move to Hawaii. We spent seven great years in Hawaii, we had one of the greatest churches I have ever been to name New Hope. New Hope was a lot like Olivet's atmosphere, the people were always friendly and there always something to keep someone busy. I used to dance at church, I did hip-hop and interpretive dance, but you could never tell that from the way I look now.
This past year, I have been apart of Naperville Central’s brand new Special Spaces club. When my friend approached me and asked me to join, I agreed even though I had no clue what I was involving myself in. In retrospective, I can honestly say that becoming a part of Special Spaces has been one of the most meaningful, fun, and fulfilling experiences I have had in high school.
Over my years of school, one big influence on me has always been sports. Ever since a young age, I have always enjoyed playing and watching sports. In my four years in high school, I have fell in love with the sport of lacrosse.
I woke up and took one bite out of my pop tart but that one bite was all I could eat. My legs were shaking, and my heart was pounding. My dad told me, “It is a true honor to even make it this far so go out there and have some fun.” Once I heard this statement, I knew I was ready to go. I arrived at school and boarded the bus. The car ride was an hour and fifteen minutes of hearing the squeaking of the wheel on the bus. My teammates were getting their heads ready for the big game.
This past summer, I worked as a Swim Instructor at The Preserve with the company, Fit Fins. The job was probably the best job a teenager could ever ask for. I got to teach kids ages sixteen months to twelve years old how to swim, I got to be in the pool every day for hours, I could go in the hot tub on my breaks, and I got super tan. There was really only one downside to this job; it was a summer job. By summer job, I mean it only lasts from June to late August. This could also be a plus side, since I get fall, winter, and spring off; however, this means I'm out of a job for nine months. So now my current job is at Old Navy. I decided to get another seasonal job because I figured I needed to pay for things like my Ramen Noodle addiction or the Christmas season.
In 2005, my father bought a Shell Gas Station in Lake Geneva. From the first day, my dad taught me how to count money and work the cash register. I had to stand on a step stool to see over the counter. For the first couple years, I had to work with someone at all times because of the cigarette and alcohol sales and a lot of the customers would tell me there were child labor laws against it but I would just shake my head and say no. I loved being there and working because I was spending time with my dad and the family we built within the business. During the summers, I would get up with my dad at four in the morning to go and open the store. Throughout the years I learned to do more and more and by the age of 10, I knew how to count money, cut

“Guys we have some pretty big news!” my mom said nervously. “We are going to check out y’alls new schools today!” my dad said with excitement. Immediately my heart dropped and the truck was silent. I glanced over at my brother and sister to see what their
When I was young my Dad would always remind me of how important these years as a kid are. He would always say watch how you act as a kid, for it will set the stage for the rest of your life. So many people I know ruined their lives when they were kids. This small, yet so important statement runs through my mind everyday. I love how everyone says they don’t care what people think of them, but I wish they knew how important it is to have a good image. I am not perfect, but I would like to be close as possible. But as Salvador Dali said “Have no fear of perfection, you’ll never reach it. “ The problem I see is everyone wanting to be someone that they are not. Sure, we all have our idols that we look
Walking into the coffee shop where everyone else , including me now, confronts people in their lives and continues to discuss important topics. The decorations around me are plain and simplistic, nothing special about this place whatsoever. I wait patiently for my invite to show, mentally preparing myself for the conversation that I want to have so desperately. I think of the topics I want to bring up and the ones I want to focus on more than others. Nervously, I continue to wait and talk myself out of thinking that they wouldn’t show at all. A few minutes filled with deep breaths later, finally they’re here. I walk over to the table we agreed to meet at, and sat politely before greeting them and waiting for a response. I cleared my throat and looked at my lap, trying to refrain from saying anything I’d regret. Taking a deep breath, I tried to remain professional while addressing the topic. Finally, my attention was brought to the person seated in front of me, to the world in front of me. With all the courage I could muster I stared dead into its
So, I made a wrong turn today - literally. My brother called to cancel plans while I was driving, and I ended up somewhere in the DEEP south. (cue banjos) But I am wholly confident that God uses every of my wrong turns for his good.
Throughout the conversation, Susan did not inform me that the home was still in First Look and not open to investors at this time. Susan did not highlight any features of the home, nor did she talk about the neighborhood or the surrounding area. When asked, Susan paused to reference the property file and stated, "In looking at the pictures it appears that it needs interior paint, carpet, appliances, and a few windows, which the previous seller must have taken." She stated, "I don't know why they have to remove things from the homes." I asked, "Do you have offers?" She paused to check the property file and answered, "No offers." I asked, "Is the property behind the home farmland?" She paused to reference the property file and replied, "It appears
My field experience was in Ms. Felkins third grade classroom at Washington Elementary School. The class there are nineteen students total, nine boys and ten girls. There are two different ethnic groups in the class, four African American students and fifteen white students. Additionally, there are three students who go to a resource room throughout the day for academic instruction. One of the students goes to the resource room for thirty-minute increments throughout the day. Three students go to a small reading group each day to work on reading skills.
It was a sunny day walking home from school I finally got home and my mom, dad were on the table and my mom looked happy. She said “Faith have a seat we need to talk to you” I was confused, so I said “OK what's all this about?” My dad was like “we put in an application in for you and your sister in at a new school” “ what school dad……?” We put it in at Pinnacle Charter School” I was so mad, I didn’t even know what to say to them. I kept asking “why did you guys have to do this to me, I liked Ranum a little, but why I wouldn’t like Pinnacle as much as I like Ranum.” My mom kept saying “Ranum isn’t the right school for you!” My dad kept saying “you will have fun at Pinnacle” I was getting annoyed because I wouldn’t have fun, but then at the
About three years back, I had just turned sixteen and had finished 10th grade so I was enjoying my summer vacation just like other kids enjoying their summer vacation after a long school year. One day, my mother said I should get a job. She said it would teach me how to
