Personal Narrative: The Food Culture Of Beautiful Hawaii

Charles Gordon Eagan, born August 17, 1915 and passed in 1999. By talking to his daughter and son (my grandmother and great uncle) and his grandson (my father) to piece together what he was like, and who he was.

My relative, Lee Pinchouk, informed me of a position available as Line Cook. Please consider this my application for that position at Krystal. Although I do not have prior job experience in this field, I feel my prior life experiences have prepared me for this position.

To begin, my dream vacation would be going to the Bahamas because of all the fascinating places to visit. In one resort alone there are at least 10 pools. At the beach, the water is always warm and it is crystal clear. In the Bahamas, there are plenty of extremely fascinating caves to explore. Also, in the resort called Atlantis, there is a nightclub

“Shawn have you ever heard of Hawaii?”, my father asked while we sat down for dinner. At that moment I already knew what was about to happen. My parents had been “joking around” recently about moving but I could tell that the jokes were progressively getting more and more serious, and this scared me. “No” I replied trying to avoid the subject. “Well it’s an amazing place, and your dad just scored a job transfer there and me and him are pretty set on it now.” I was distraught, I didn’t even want to think about leaving all of my friends and family that lived in texas.

How is everyone doing and did anything change? Hawaii has very warm consistent weather, but I miss our home cooked meals and the different types of weather. Especially the springtime when the whole family would sit under the cherry blossom tree and gaze at the beautiful pink leaves as they would fall. 10 years ago, when I first arrived for my marriage, I thought the pay would be wonderful because there were so many rumors around the neighborhood and everyone was talking about it. I was excited that life would be like paradise and that is why I thought it would be completely fine to sign the contract that I didn’t even understand, to work here, but we were completely wrong.

If I could go anywhere in the world, I would go to Hawaii. The reason I want to go to Hawaii is because it's tropical, warm, and beautiful. There are many things to do in Hawaii. I would like to go deep sea fishing, snokeling, surfing, and eat a a lot of seafood. Hawaii would be amazing to go.

With one single ticket in my hand and the world to explore, where would I go? Out of all the places around the world that I could visit, my top choice would be the beautiful islands of Hawaii. Hawaii has so much to offer on all eight diverse islands. From seeing pictures in travel brochures of Hawaii’s beautiful scenery, vast culture, and tourist attractions, it would definitely be the place for me. After exiting the boring interior of the enormous grey American Airlines plane, I began to feel the warm summer sun beaming down on my face with a slight cool tropical breeze in the air. I am anxious to see what all will be in store for me!

If I had a ticket in my hand the one place I would chose to go to out of all of the places in the world is the small tropical island of Hawaii. Personally I would chose to go to the island of Hawaii because from an early age I have always have enjoyed being able to experience what it is like to be temporarily in a different place that has its own unique atmosphere, culture, historical significance and personal experiences that you can have that no other place in the world has. Another reason why I would go to Hawaii is because I personally have always enjoyed the feeling of being in a place that is small, isolated and separated from all of the other places around them. I would also go to visit Hawaii because each of the state's eight islands offer something of its own that is unique and different that none of the other islands of Hawaii can offer.

My family’s trip to Hawaii all began because my mom said “screw it, I have the money, and I wanna go at some point, why not now.” My mom is where I get my self-confidence from; her, my sister and I all are egotistical in our way. My mom’s egotism circulates around her looks, and yes she looks amazing for being 54 years old, and with two kids who have put her through inconceivable amounts of stress and bullshit. My mother is also very inclusive as a person, she’ll always encourage my sister to do new things with her, and if she wants to go to Estes Park one day for no reason she motivates me and my sister to go with her. Just like when she wanted to drive to Fort Collins because she had never up close seen Colorado State

If I got a free trip to any where in the world I would go to Hawaii. On the trip I would take Morgan because she is one of my best friends. I would go to Hawaii because I have never been there before. It also isn’t that long of a trip so that means I can spend more time having fun in Hawaii. I would also go so Morgan and I could swim in the ocean. Me and Morgan would stay in Hawaii for the first day then we would go on a cruise for the last 2 days.

I am the kind of person who believes that experiencing unity, positivity, love and passion are crucial. Although our nation strives to be united, it is apparent that there are many situations where we are divided. However, in Hawaii, I am finding that these types of experiences are easily attainable. It’s Saturday, May 10, 2014, and I have just arrived in Waikiki, Hawaii for my Make-a-Wish. Everyone is chanting, singing, praising, and just appearing together as one. My goal for the week is to learn more about the culture, its traditions, and its people. Hawaii is a place with an incredible history and culture, much different from mine. That is why I have so much interest in this culture. The luaus, the food, and the overall environment is what is drawing me in, and are some of the more intriguing aspects of the Hawaiian culture.

I’ve always learned best by relating lecture concepts to my personal life, and this class is no different. I’ve been challenged to see my own development through the perspectives and theories set by psychologists before me, bringing new light to my occasionally quirky personality. The biopsychosocial breaks down into biological – meaning brain processing and genetics, psychological – referring to personal thoughts and motives, and social or environmental situations – the influence of others that shapes who someone may become. Life cycle forces can be attributed with the generation of seemingly new traits as well.
