The year was 1910 , I just made it to the Golden Door in New York City . There were a tons of people , everywhere I turned I seen Italian , Greek , Slav , Russian , Jewish , East European , and even Armenian people . I then met a Jewish family that helped me get to The Office of the Superintendent of Immigration . Me and the family were approved and admitted after hours of waiting . Then I asked one of the officers where should I go now ? He told me I should head over to “ Ellis Island .” So me and the family followed the crowd of people to the New York Harbor , were we sat and waited for hours to get on the boat . When we abroad the boat , people were pushing and shoving to find a secure spot on the boat . Everything happened so fast that
“Angel Island, off the coast of California, was the port of entry for Asian immigrants to the United States between 1892 and 1940. Following the passage of legislation requiring the screening of immigrants, "the other Ellis Island" processed around one million people from Japan, China, and Korea. Drawing from memoirs, diaries, letters, and the "wall poems" discovered at the facility long after it closed, the nonfiction master Russell Freedman describes the people who came, and why; the screening process; detention and deportation; changes in immigration policy; and the eventual renaissance of Angel Island as a historic site open to visitors” (Freedman, 2013)
This is a creative essay on Ellis Island, describing life as an immigrant who went to Ellis Island through first-person. All facts and dates are historically correct.
The video, “Ellis Island Island Deconstructed”, communicates that even though immigration is a long and hard process, people are still willing to go through with it. In the video, it is said that about 1.2 million people were processed when they were still open for operations. 1.2 million people that were there for the average of three to four hours( some even more) being processed, questioned, and examined. Some might not even be granted admission into the United States even after being there for days. The conditions weren’t the best either. Because of the large amount of people, everything was cramped and space was tight. Pictures from the video indicated that a lot of people would be crammed into one room that wasn’t even that big. After
This year I went to Cooperstown, New York. It was a really great experience. The whole week with me and my team was spent in a barrack. There were 104 teams. I met a lot of new people from California, Missouri, Texas, Hawaii and more.
I hope your Tuesday afternoon is going terrific. I am Miten Bhadania and I would like to formally introduce myself as your colleague working in the Tech department as Developer.
“Dad, I can’t talk, I'm heading out right now,” I said while hugging the phone with my shoulder up to my ear. He told me to be cautious on the roads, considering the blizzard we had just had a few days ago. It was an unusually calm day in the suburbs of Chicago, Illinois. A perfect day to travel, the snow on the ground glistened as it had just been freshened with a new coat from the light snowfall early this morning. The sun was barely noticeable from the distance as the tip of it lit up the outline of city. It gave the trees a soft glow making it look like there were thousands of microscopic diamonds floating off the branches of the bare trees through the breeze, carrying them across the neighborhood and greeting themselves at the window
I witnessed my cousins boyfriend corpse lying on my neighbors lawn. It was a humid summer night around 3:30 when I peeked through my window and saw my devastated cousin sobbing uncontrollably on my decaying porch. Being from East chicago, Indiana has transformed me into the person I am today.
On 13 October 2017, While I was patrolling towards the West Gate on Temple Square, a female by the name of Barbara Cameron approached me and asked if I am security. I replied that I am. She informed me that a white male just pulled a gun on her.
Ellis Island was Americas largest immigration system. Ellis Island brought in many different religions and races of people. It processed over 12 million immigrants in just 62 years (Ellis Island History). Originally it was 3.3 acres; it was expanded with landfill in order to house the immigration station. It eventually grew to 27.5 acres. The fill came from the excavation of the New York City subway tunnel. Ellis Island opened on January 1892 and this is when it first opened (Ellis Island History). Approximately 450,000 immigrants were processed during its first year open. On June 15, 1897 a fire destroyed the Ellis Island building along with immigration records dating back to 1855 (Ellis Island History). A new building was then built right away and the building has to be fireproof. The new building had many benefits such as, a baggage room, dinning hall, kitchen, 600 beds, hospital and outdoor recreation activities (Ellis Island History). However, upon arrival immigrants were inspected for visible ailments, this was known has the “six second” medical exam. Those who failed this exam were marked with chalk for a full physical exam. Those who passed went on to the great hall to be processed and this took on average 3-4 hours of waiting. When people arrived they were ask 29 questions which included name, occupation and amount of money carried on them. In addition, about 2% of
Up until 8th grade I lived in Cambridge, a sketchy, gilded age-like city on the outskirts of Boston. I lived in the central part of Cambridge, sandwiched in between the affluent undergrads, graduate students, and post-doc families or Harvard or MIT, where all the run down housing projects were and where police cars and ambulances screamed past every night because they had gotten yet another drug overdose dispatch.
She is warm like a soft gentle breeze; She soothes your soul like chicken noodle soup . In 1837 she became a city; Chicago is her name, is the third largest city in the United States. If you are looking for adventure, cultural events, festivals, and Chicago is the place to be. Tourist came to meet her and gave her a nicknam" the Windy City". Chicago, the Tourist say, is …
Finally, we arrived at the magnificent Ellis Island. Lady liberty was there and I was so happy to see her. I've always wanted to see her. She stood high and was as green as an emerald city, but there was no time to waist I had to go to through the process of immigration. The first class passengers were let off first, but it wasn't long before the roaring herd of steerage came off I had to make my way to the center. First I went to passport registration I thankfully made it through and I was off to costumes to fill out a piece of paper about me it didn't take long and I was off to medical I remembered I had a bad heartbeat, but I prayed that I would have no trouble getting through. But, I was wrong the medical person told me to do 5 jumping
As the weather in the Mile High City grew worse, I was in a mood...but not the mood you would be if you won the lottery. It was perhaps a mood you would be in if you lost a championship game.I was moving...AGAIN! This was NOT exciting. I had to move from one side of America to the other side and back again.I had to move from New Jersey to Colorado and I was not happy. Obviously,I am not happy now!I had to lose all my friends, it was tragic. I didn’t want to pack everything again and go to the other side of America..Virginia Beach. This was so frustrating! I had to leave all my friends and teachers who encouraged me to do many things. It was also hard for my brother who had say good bye to his best friend and meet new friends. But,at the same
Famous musicians such as; Jay-Z, Bruce Springsteen, Tito Puente, and John Lennon have written songs about it. It’s the setting for hundreds of amazing movies including; The Avengers, The Men in Black, The Godfather, and the Wolf of Wall Street. New York City, my hometown, the greatest city on Earth. There are plenty of things to do in this city. You can watch a play on Broadway, take a walk through Central Park, or visit the Statue of Liberty, but you rarely hear about my favorite part of this city, and that’s the food. You’ll be hard-pressed to find a place with a larger selection or with more delicious food.
The architectural site I chose was The Golden Gate Bridge located in San Francisco, California. The purpose of The Golden Gate Bridge is to facilitate movement of people and goods across the bay from San Francisco to Marin County, California. I chose this architectural wonder because it is a California landmark. This bridge is a very magnificent experience to walk on, due to its beautiful natural surrounding. I have visited this Bridge in person and drove across it.
