Personal Narrative: The Importance Of Team Work

It was four months ago that I first interviewed for and received an internship with the Georgia Legislative Black Caucus. At the time, I had not had any office experience and had no idea what was in store for me. I learned everything that people could possibly learn in the first few weeks at their first job and probably even more. My experience as a legislative intern showed me many things that I will carry into my future internships and jobs. I learned to work on assignments according to the organization’s needs, to balance and prioritize certain assignments, to manage office relationships, to ask questions about aspects that may confuse me, and to actively listen. Depending on which field a person chooses to study; there are many different schools that cater to the major that interest a student the most. The importance of picking of the right school for a student’s major will ultimately reflect when the graduate is in search of his or her dream career. My absolute academic goal would be to finish my courses at the Clark Atlanta University and receive an undergraduate degree in Criminal Justice then go on to pursue a Master’s degree in the Forensic Science University of California, Los Angeles or Loyola Marymount University. While interning at Georgia Legislative Black Caucus, I learned about the potential career opportunities within the State Capitol of Georgia, I was able to perform tasks that range from office administration, attending public hearings, legislative research, working with constituents, drafting legislation and bill…show more content…
After the 2011 election when Obama was elected African Americans opened their eyes much winder than then they ever had before. Many people never thought that they would live to see an African American President in the White House. The 2011 election showed me how important it is for African Americans to get more involved in politics. Interning for The Georgia Legislative Black Caucus, gave me a better understanding on why blacks need to be aware of politics. I have seen members of The Georgia Legislative Black Caucus stand up for what they thought was right by making sure their voice was heard. The Georgia Legislative Black Caucus has meetings every week and in these meeting they discuses upcoming bills and events. Members of GLBC discuss bills that individuals of the caucus have written and would like the support on. Many of the senators and representatives would go back and forth with each other so that everyone in GLBC could have a clear understanding before agreeing or disagreeing with other senators and
