Over hearing one of the leaders say that we were almost to the top of the mountain, I prepared myself for what was going to happen. The group was told at the beginning of the trail, that we were going to be rock climbing thirty feet away from a cliff. I thought it was going to be a small cliff, that was not the case at all. Walking over to the edge I looked down and saw that it was a two mile drop off. Until this point, I have not gotten scared or anxious the whole way up, but looking over the edge made me
Once we had finally hiked our way up to the first resting point, my anxiety had gone away. In my mind, up to that point, the hike had been fairly easy. We all took our time to look around and drink our water and take pictures; my mom got slightly upset when I wanted to take one close to the edge. Once we were all ready to go again, it was time to start the unpaved or the scary part of the hike as I like to call it. Beforehand, I had researched the hike and
Just this past summer, under the hot, and sticky sun, we pushed our car to the limit, on our 1,000 mile journey to the Rocky Mountains in Colorado, although in actuality we might have pushed our fears to the absolute limit. Flipping through the Colorado vacation brochure proved to have posed some interesting vacation destinations, such as "Big Bear Lake" and Trail Ridge Road. With the intent to get high in the sky, our family headed out the next morning to Trail Ridge Road, which is a road that takes you up to a staggering height of 12,000 feet. Although optimistic, we imagined of the vast fields of green, the glacier-topped mountains, and the valleys that undertake the them. As we climbed up to the peak, it seemed apparent that there
My names Linn and i’m 24 years old, this morning my husband gave me some horrible and good news. The bad news is that our family is going on the Oregon trail and that means we're leaving Illinois, where I grew up my whole life and our family dog, but the good news he said about going on the Oregon trail is that when we get to our destination we're gonna have a lot more farm land. Today we're gonna try and find a wagon. We went to our friends house to see if the have a wagon we can use and it happens that the do it's a Prairie Schooner and they gave it to us for a lower price than what they wanted it for. We hooked our horse up to the wagon and we were on our way back home. When we got home, we automatically started to pack. My husband James, who is 25 years old
Ever heard of the Appalachian trail, it’s 2,000 miles of wildness stretched of all you see.
Have you ever been in a situation where you didn’t think you could do it? Well I have many times and I’m going to write about a time during Rodeo when I didn’t think I was going to be able to do well in goat tying.
Humans are animals. Even as developed, personalized, and intelligent as we are, we share a deep connection with every living thing. However, many of the problems in the world result from the human belief that technology is more powerful and can replace the serene, perfect essence of nature. I believe that a connection with nature can heal wounds and help humans find balance in their lives.
The alluring Mead Valley; where there’s roadkill on every main road, starving dogs on your trail, and The Red Store where the whole town is acquainted with one another. Having a large family in a small house is not an uncommon occurrence, and with this sizable household, it’s evident that my mind and persona was shaped by many from a young age. My mom always advised me to be appreciative of the situation I was born into, because in the real world, when deprivation in any form struck me down, I would have the resources to get back up and labor through the rigorous times. I was disciplined through trial and error parenting. Instead of putting a stop to my mistakes completely, I was given the privilege to make my own decisions and learn from them,
The first thing I have to mention about this course is the distance, I had expected it to be just about exactly 5K and maybe up the ski mountain one time, but I found out right away before the wave started it was more like 10K and we would go up the entire ski mountain three times.
We finally reached our destination which felt like hiking the Appalachian Trail. We took a deep breath and scrabbled straight towards the bread aisle. Unfortunately, they ran out of Sunbeam bread, so we were forced to get the bread that made my organs to come out. Whole wheat bread!
When people are on winter break, most want to go out and play in the snow, but who knew that the snow could be one's worst nightmare when stubbornness comes into play. Most people go out on an enjoyable snow-white day to sled down snowy hills and fling semi-hard snowballs at each other. No one would think that maybe sledding down the snowy hills could be so dangerous when they are having fun, and trying to show off. I certainly did not think that it was dangerous, but boy was I so wrong. Normally being a Los Angeles girl, going up to Big Bear is such an amazing experience, because down in the Los Angeles region it does not snow at all. However, I was not ready to face what was slowly going to change me in the mountains of California.
Riding along the Oregon Trail can be treacherous, risky, and at times perilous. Some aspects that make it so dangerous are: hunger, disease, suicide, a broken wagon, falling out of the wagon and getting run over by the wheels, Indians attacking, and … storms. Believe it or not , storms cause substantial amounts of trouble. I am fortunate enough to say, I, Dahlia Clark, lived to tell about it.
My grandma owns a old cattle farm, even though there isn't much cattle there anymore. Before my cousin, Aunt Jen, and uncle moved to Hawaii, they built a house on the property. Whenever they come to visit, they always stay in their old house.
The aesthetic of the mountain was breathtaking, but it had a vitriolic cold feeling to it. Once I got to the end of the chair lift I was glad to get off because I sat next to a garrulous person that wouldn't stop talking, the other person was a very amicable person. When I got to the end of the ramp I saw a virtuoso skier and his predecessor learning from him. Then I saw a static snowboarder on a insipid part of the mountain, and another skier went over to them and tried to ingratiate them but then they got rebuffed, then that same skier effaced when he was skiing away which gave out a dissonance sound. When I got to the ledge of the run i saw a very ponderous man shredding the hill, he had a very whimsical style of skiing. Halfway through
Every year the cross-country team has a trip up to Colorado for team building and altitude training. I have gone on these trips with my team every year and the time I spent with my team in Colorado makes up a large portion of my best memories of high school. The trip is mean to be an amalgam of challenges and fun experiences, and I feel like I can fully enjoy the entertaining parts of the trip because I know that I have also worked hard the remainder of the time. Driving in a van for hours to get to Colorado can get boring, but we usually find some way to make it fun with music and games that the team brings along. Colorado is too far to make it in one day, so after the first day of driving we stop in a valley in New Mexico for the night. That
I tried to smile back but just the thought of going even a few inches off the ground terrified me. A few weeks ago our history teacher Mr Brown, an old and boring professor had informed us about a field trip that was supposed to help enhance our understanding of the olden times. I was pretty excited for the most part as history was my favourite subject but a week later when I was told it was to camp out in the mountains, I decided against it. But soon enough my friends were begging me to go and I mean the thought of it a few weeks ago seemed adventurous, cool and fun. Now, I watched in horror as the bus approached the starting point of descending up the mountain. I shut my eyes tightly as I squeezed James hand. I could hear the laughter of my friends, Marissa, David, Sheila, Finn and Mike watching the stupidity of my fear. After a while, I finally opened my eyes and looked out the window despite the level we were at and my heart thumping at the thought of it I looked at the breathtaking view of the city below. The view looked like something out of a story book, the city below us was lusciously green and the vibrance of the bodies of water seemed to dazzle from afar, I could see the long chain of cars
