Personal Narrative: Understanding Myself As A Follower Of Hinduism

Culture is a word we use often, but we do not knowing the full meaning of it and we usually use it interchangeably with race. Culture is a group of people living together for a long time with certain values of life and behavior to be passed on to further generations. I identify myself as an Indian American, and as a follower of Hinduism. Following Hinduism, understanding my place on the socio-economic scale, and understating the impact of my family made me fully understand the impact this had on my religion and behaviors. I grew up in Michigan, but my parents and grandparents were born in India. When they came over to the United States they brought over Indian customs and the religion of Hinduism.
About a year ago my family moved into a new house, but before we could move my parents had to do a puja. I asked my mom why are we doing this she explained that “A puja is a religious activity that hoards of evil and blesses the surrounding to ensure …show more content…

Through my culture, I have learned to become a pious human being, understood my place on the socio-economic scale, and understood the significance of family support. These influences have taught me to be responsible and to work hard. As a result of these influences, I try my best as a student, a member of a family, and a member of the community. I continue my studies, learning day by day, while giving back to my family, the community, and the nation. Without these influences, I would not be supported by others or cultured to persevere in the face of difficulties and to benefit the society whenever possible. Additionally, without my culture, I would be seeking more materialistic, temporary worldly objects and pleasures; the thirst and hunger of which never ends and only brings sorrow and emptiness. Lastly, without my culture, I would not be able to cultivate the good human qualities and my personality, much needed to be a successful
