What I think it means to be someone of my gender is always doing what is expected of a girl. Always being polite and caring when necessary, but also standing up for yourself and never cowering down. As for what I think it means to be someone my age, which is 20 years old, I think it means finally starting your life. Obviously your life has already been started but once you're 18 you start to get a little bit more of a taste of what you're going to have to deal with as an adult and I think that getting up to 20 years takes it even further. By 20 years old you've most likely started college, working a new job, or maybe even both. Attending an ethnically and racially diverse school, being white or any other race or ethnicity was never a problem. …show more content…
What your parents told you to do, you did it. I wasn't one of those kids that got to disobey their parent and still get away with it. Appropriate behavior is always asking your parents before you leave the house and if they have something that they would like for you to do before you go out and leave, you did it without any back talk or hesitation. Usually when I followed they way my parents wanted, I would get to do what I wanted to do. Like a positive reinforcement. The opposite of that was the discouraged behavior. When I was younger, and some of high school, I had this best friend who really wasn't the kind of girl you would want your daughter to hang out with too much. She talked back to her parents constantly, snuck out of the house all the time, skipped school, went to parties, and the list goes on. That's the kind of behavior my parents never wanted from me but because of my being her best friend, a lot of the time she would talk to me into doing those types of things. I knew better, and I never really wanted to, but I wanted to be accepted and thought “what if she doesn't want to hang with me anymore if I don't?” I wanted her approval. I’ve realized now that it doesn’t work that way. If you have to do those types of things to be “in” that's not the kind of friend you want around and it's better to listen to your parents. They just want what's best for you in the world and want YOU to be the very best in the world as

Lady Macbeth is to blame for the deaths that occurred in Macbeth because she manipulated Macbeth to kill people, manifests the deaths, and influences Macbeth's ambitions. Gender is a huge aspect of society that influences much of how people act, regardless of age. According to Oxford Dictionary, gender is the state of being male or female
The importance of Homer’s work towards Greek culture and even modern culture can’t be emphasized enough. The name, “teacher of Greece”, is given to him for reason. His book, The Odyssey, is one of the most famous epic poem in literature, it’s also a prime example of Greek mythology writing. Homer includes violence, blood, and killing many times throughout this book. All these events have a special meaning or they aid the story altogether. In The Odyssey written by Homer, the violent scenes contribute to the story as a whole by presenting the Greek culture, and by developing the character of Odysseus.
I don't like to reply to posts with flippant ignorance or hate, but there was a comment here that has since been deleted. I found the comment thoughtful and honesty. I gave it some thought and replied. To those reading this I can only hope you give me the same courtesy.
Currently, I am in the process of not only becoming comfortable in my identity, a black queer woman, but, also attempting to find solace in my identity as well. Something that all women, especially black queer women, should achieve in their lifetime. It is that dream that inspires me to travel to experience other cultures and to unite with women from various cultures across the black diaspora. Throughout many cultures, women’s identities are defined by their male counterparts and the labor they provide to them. Therefore, a major goal of mine is to create a space where women are able to exist outside the scope of their relationships with men and live uninhibitedly to become their best selves. That is why I find it pertinent to travel not only
The classic story Animal Farm by George Orwell is a historic, social, and political story that has had a major impact on the literary world. Orwell employs the literary devices of allegory, satire, and literary fable. Political satire is abundant throughout the book. The story also unmasks the influence of corrupt power and abusive leadership over the less fortunate. Animal farm has the universal theme that power can be used for ultimate good or absolute evil. This essay focuses on the use of satire and symbolism to express values of a society.
I was born and raised in the small but growing city of Perris, CA. This isn’t the best city out there but it tends to grow on you, and you begin to truly love it for what it is. The people, however, not so much. The community can vary from which part of the city you’re in. That’s because there’s diversity here in Perris. I’m a product of this diversity, being half Mexican and half African American. My parents fell in love after high school and later on began a family. I am the youngest of five. I have two older brothers, an older sister, and an older cousin who lives with us. The order is boy, girl, boy, boy, girl with my cousin being included in there too. We all live in the same house with my parents and are quite close with each other. They all seem to have raised me growing up due to the fact that my parents were busy trying to provide for us. This was a challenge by itself, resulting in lots of house moving and my father being unemployed for six years after losing his job. I never complained about moving because I knew that my parents were doing their absolute best and were working with all that they had and then some. This unquestionably made me adaptable to new environments and gave me a
What is identity? The definition as a person’s own sense of whom they are, which their past define them. Identity is very important in our society, no matter your social status. I can attach identity to belonging to something or place. As human race, we feel the need to belong to a group or place. Because belonging to a group or place, give us the sense of identity.
I lived far away from my hometown. At beginning, I concealed my sexual identity. I was living at bottom of society and struggle for survive. I had done a lot of odd jobs. I met some friends at work. In my naivety, I thought I would be accepted by friend as a homosexual. I told one of the co-workers who I believed he was my friend about my being a gay. Somehow all others knew my sexuality. Some co-workers force me to get drunk, then they sexual assaulted me. Every time I tried to protect myself by law, they would tell the police that I had mental disease and they asked policemen take me to the mental hospital. These happened several times, each time I was hurt and was fired. At the end it was miserable, nobody would
My identity can be defined by moments in my life. Moving to Canada, learning English and going to high school are three major moments in my life. Going through these experiences have changed the person in me and made me more confident, stronger, better in everything.
How does one define their identity? What are the most important things in life to you? Many cannot answer this question. It’s a problem many people face and try to find a solution to. Everyone is born into different cultures, families and even communities, but how we define our identity is from our personal attributes, our skills and abilities that we possess and even our interests and hobbies. If there’s something about you that you believe defines you in a big way, this could be considered your identity. Our identities are a complex interworking of genetics, our cultural and familial upbringing, spirituality, social circles, personal choice and taste, our community, as well as many other traits. I have an identity that specifically pertains to me. It’s been forming ever since the day I’ve been born and
How many different “hats” do we each wear on a daily bases. From our careers, to our family and friends we all have different identities that we claim and live out day to day. These identities help us define who we are. “When we identify ourselves, we draw on a host of different characteristics associated with various social groups to which we belong” (King 2012, pg. 429). My ornament is explaining the social identity through a snow-women and her many hats.
Women in the world are being oppressed everyday. It is a sad reality. Women all over the world face shame and injustices each day. It can be depressing to look through the statistics of abuse, wage gap, and shame that females go through at least once in their life. I, like many other people in the world, want to do something about the pain that women face every single day. Women's rights are extremely important to me because, one: I am woman, and two: I believe that I, and every single female on this earth, is equal to a male and should not be treated poorly. From this drive I decided to take action. For my AP 3-D Studio Art class, I decided to concentrate on the battleground that a woman’s body has become.
I knew Christmas was coming up, and I knew my wife was going to go all out to get me something special! With only $2.00 I went into the city to try and find something that I knew she would like. First I went into the women shoe dept. Store, I looked all over for some shoes but I did not find anything. Next I went into the women clothing store. I thought about buying Della a nice outfit. BUT I did not have enough money for a nice outfit and I knew the man would not negotiate with me. After 2 hours of looking and thinking, I am now starting to panic it is getting late and I do not have a clue, nor a thought about what I should get my wife! As I was walking, out of luck, I walked past a beauty supply store and I saw this BEAUTIFUL comb! My wife had long beautiful hair and I knew she would love this comb.
As far as my gender identity goes, I have never had any internal struggle with my internal sense of being a female. I am lucky that my assigned gender, anatomical sex, and gender identity lines up. I have always been interested in the different gender roles both in our country and around the world. I know that my attitudes and behavior on the matter are more so a product of my environment, family, friends, and probably media. I know I have held gender-role stereotypes for both men and women. One big over simplistic statement I have heard is men don’t care and women are overly emotional. Also, it’s stereotypical to assume men must be the providers of a family and women the stay at home mothers. A part of me doesn’t want to fall victim to role
