Walking into the stadium I can hear the screaming as I get my ticket, going through the gate and looking out at the 8 mats. As I look to the left there is a mom screaming jumping up and down in tears because her unranked son just beat the 6th ranked guy. I can also point out the father of the young man that lost that match, his face is blank he can't believe what has just happened. On the mat straight ahead there are two of the best wrestlers in the state going head to head for a spot in the finals, one of them had his head wrapped to stop the blood and the other has a big black brace on his left leg because he had tore his ACL a month before. The sweat dripping off of him is like rain pouring down during a storm. The match is in overtime,
Elyar, my best friend had just told me ,Ricky, was now gonna tell the principal what I done. It didn't occur to me this was going to happen when I punched his brother ,Duke . Oh, God my dad is gonna kill me. His brother told me my sister, Sanai looked like a flat tire. I was so protective over my sister I couldn't take it. But, maybe I would be off the hook with my dad because I was defending her. Sanai most of the time thought I was her police because I would stick up for her. But, because dad was working 12 and a half hours each day it was my job to protect her. Next year when im in middle school she wont have
I once read a book about a guy who believes that everyone gets a tragedy at some point in their life. I never thought this could be true, because some people have great lives, and even if they do not how would they decide what the single hardest moment was? Recently my father passed away, and I realized you do not get to decide, you just know. This had been the hardest point in my life, however, the same book taught me that good things can come out of any bad experience if you look for them. Before I could see that I had to deal with many things, such as realizing he was really gone, going to his funeral, and going back to school. I also had to cope with the fact that I would never have the chance to change the relationship I
I remember it like it was yesterday. It was in a park, bright and sunny out , I was feeling every kind of emotion there was to feel. I didn’t know what to expect or how I was going to react. My mom was right next to me looking calm as ever. How did she do it? Suddenly, I see a car pull up and a taller, muscular man steps out. That’s the very first time I met my biological dad.
The Birth of my first, Jayden, was pretty normal, and he was on time. I was in labor for
Often, we forget the things that matter most. When I was young, I ignored all the things that truly created my happiness. Now, I am constantly drawn to my beginning, as it is where I begin to end.
“Ya son las Cinco y media,” is what my dad would say to me everyday during summer. We would go up to Redlands to this avocado groove to pick avocados. Under the big, tall, leafy trees we would work until our bodies couldn't take it anymore and needed a break. We would work under the hot scorching sun, our faces dripping in sweat until 3:30. I would always get home tired knowing the same thing was waiting for me the next day.
In their infinite wisdom, NAU have scheduled my health insurance payment for January-May, my “course fees” for the spring term and my first rent and meal plan payments for a week before I get my Student Finance money through. Chloe and I are going to go to the finance office on Monday, explain the situation to them and hope that we can be granted an extension. However, given all the financial guarantees we made to NAU before coming here, neither of us are holding our breaths for leniency (especially not Chloe - we have to the cardiologists today to try and get that sorted). I’m just giving you the heads up in case I need to borrow some money until the loan/grant come through.
Toss in the jeans, a pair of church clothes, a t-shirt, and don’t forget the tooth brush. Another trip to dads is on the horizon. But before I can do that I must make it through 5:30 a.m. basketball practice, a College Biology test, a Government essay, a CTSO Executive lunch meeting, and all the while take care of my fake baby for Child Development.
It was a hot summer day. My dad and I were getting ready to go out for a ride on the boat with my friend Katie and the dog. That’s when the phone call came, the call that made that bright, beautiful day a cold, dark, gloomy one.
One bright early morning on the field of the 2015 Annual Wiffle Ball Championship laid the bright golden trophy next to the pitcher's mound. The sun glared at the trophy in joy leaving the bright beams of light reflecting into the eyes of the players. As I was on the field I heard the loud smashing voice of the opponent's team line-up harshly told by the coach. By the sound of his voice he seemed determined to win the trophy. I then turned to look at my dad playing 3rd and he said with a soft voice ¨be patient¨. At the time I was eager to get a hold of the wiffle ball. Finally the inning was over. As I went back to
Well, if you'll pardon my saying so, I guess it is interesting, the many ways you and I overlap and whatnot. You begin with our Daddies. Your daddy was a pastor of the New Hope Baptist Church; my daddy was a pastor of a church at Excelsior Springs. Um. You're the youngest of the three James boys; I'm the youngest of the five Ford boys. Between Charley and me, is another brother, Wilbur here, with six letters in his name; between Frank and you was a brother, Robert, also with six letters. Robert is my Christian name. You have blue eyes; I have blue eyes. You're five feet eight inches tall. I'm five feet eight inches tall. Oh me, I must've had a list as long as your nightshirt when I was twelve, but I've lost some curiosities over the years.
Separated from my dad nine years ago wasn’t really right, I was born torn from my dad for the rest of my life. It was hard to understand why we were; moving to Atlanta and my dad wasn’t coming along. What was going on in my head was my mom was just thinking of herself and not thinking of the rest of the family. Me and My sister was thinking who would we live with for now on but my mom was determined we was going along with her. My parents were born in the Caribbean of Trinidad and Tobago. They have been together since high school up until the year of 2004. My dad got an soccer scholarship and came to America to North Carolina later on my mom got an track scholarship and also came to America but to Mississippi.
My father is a good dad and a good person. For this to happen to him was a hard thing for him to go through. I love my dad, and I want him to live for a while. When he got an infection in his brain that scared my mother and I. He had to go through a surgery to get the infection out of the brain that was the size of a lemon. He was in the hospital for two months the first time. The surgeon thought it was all good for him to go home. He went home for about a month then had to go back into the hospital because the infection came back. The surgeon had to take out his left temporal lobe of his skull. It was infected,
The past two days there has been a lot going on, so I’m going to combine them into one entry.
The snow dyed red from blood as my dad laid unresponsive, with a laceration to the head, while I looked at him in shock because I didn’t know what had happened. A minute and a half had gone by and the scene was crowded by a dozen red jackets with reflective white crosses on their backs. About seven minutes later there was no trace that anything had ever happened. I had just witnessed a first response team take my dad down the mountain in a toboggan at the speed of a racer. I realized how if everything had not occurred the way it did I might not have my dad today. Ever since that moment I realized how much I want to help people in distress and possibly save lives. Now I find myself only a few months away from having a cross of my own on my
