I have always taken great pride in my ability to bring myself out of poverty and to become a well-rounded person. I have suffered through many obstacles along the way, and with great determination, I have been able to overcome them. I know that I have been fortunate and I never take that for granted. Friends and family are a great support system and I am blessed to have the best of both. I work very hard to instill strong beliefs into my children and their friends. It is very important to me that I give back to the community. Understanding social culture and economic provides and even greater sense of wanting to help those that need it. I volunteer through my work with Habitat for Humanity and the Houston Food Bank. My daughter also volunteers
Starting high school can be a little scary, especially when you have no guidance from siblings, like me, being the first one from my family to have an education. But that did not stop me from succeeding, I?ve always been confident and determined. I?m an enthusiastic when it comes to trying new things. Who would have thought I was going to be a good athlete plus a book geek, when in my past years I was just a regular kid. I was pretty excited about joining a club that had a connection with high school, that way I didn?t have to start from zero, I always want to be a step ahead. Fortunately, in summer, a high school coach was recruiting freshmen for running either cross country or track, they both involve running, so I considered it like the same sport with different timing. And this is when it all started. Running
Moreover, I often volunteer to do service in my community. I have been doing volunteer work for Walk for Hunger since from 2011. Also I participate many times in school food bank, which school donates food to families who need help. It was a wonderful experience because I was able to help out my community in a positive way. I like to be there for people who are in need because it shows people that I am a caring and loving them.
I'm coming from a background where living with financial problems is just another thing, but while living in Mexico I rarely saw anyone living on the streets or giving up. I always saw people constantly working on the fields, cleaning houses, selling candy at a stop light, doing everything they could to bring food to their families. My background doesn't only consist of every day endeavor, but it consists of people who are willing to help those who aren't able to help themselves. I saw people who didn't have much for themselves, helping and supporting those who didn't have anything at all. When I was eight years old I saw kids my age starving, without lights in their homes, without toys to play with or even shoes to wear. This is when the eager to help those in need began. I didn't understand why, but I just wanted to give them all my toys, clothes, and shoes. After giving them some of the things I owned, and making a fundraiser to buy food for them, something in me was still telling me I could do more. Coming from this created the characteristics that I now possess. The determination that these people had to work
I volunteered at Masonic Homes of California which is a senior living community. When I first started to volunteer I actually thought that my whole time would be spent just making copies and doing small miscellaneous tasks in the office; however, I was wrong to believe that. I did not just spend my time making copies, I got to do different tasks which made the time pass. By volunteering here I was able to meet new colleagues and I was able to network. The most important thing that I learned from my internship that I can use in daily life is to make sure that I get relevant experience in all fields that I am interested in pursuing. Without the experience it would be hard for me to accomplish what I am aiming for. The main connection I could say that I made is that I was able to realize
My strongest advocacy point these day is to create Community Powerhouse Collaborations made up of Parents, Educators and Business for the sole purpose of developing what I call, the Kindergarten CEO. Nurturing, supporting and developing each kids unique skills and abilities to be eventually monitized in some form in a high demand job in the global work place. It's the best way to ease the pressure off the Public Workforce Sysrem and ensure that young people get the "first chance" system opportunity right. We're looking to plan a strategy in Bergen County to address this. If you're interested in supporting our initiaitve, please let me
I do many small things to improve my community. Things such as picking up trash when I see it in public, volunteering monthly to help supervise my younger brothers class, or donating clothes seasonal to homeless shelters. Something I am proud of is that every year on Thanksgiving and during Christmas time, my family and I volunteer at the Downtown Los Angeles homeless shelters helping feeding the less
I am a PhD student at the Dalla Lana School for Public Health at the University of Toronto. I work as a research coordinator under the supervision of your former colleague Dr. Julia Woodhall-Melnik. Dr. Woodhall-Melnik has recommended the Communications and Dissemination Research Assistant position on "The Community Ideas Factory Project" to me as she knows I am interested in continuing my work in this area. I have two years of experience in knowledge creation and dissemination from institutions such as St. Michael’s Hospital, and I can use the skills I have built to help you on this project.
My community involvement started my Freshman year of High School when I began helping with the Miller Keystone blood drive. I was too young to donate but I did my part by helping sign others up. During my sophomore year it became more of a club and they trained us more so we could be a bigger help. I worked at the canteen, this continued up to this year. I have donated twice so far and plan to donate once more in May.
I love to help as much as I can with anything possible. The biggest thing that i've done to help my whole community is donate blood. I love doing this because it can help anyone, since I have O- blood it can be donated to anyone. I always feel superior knowing I helped save a life and one day I know someone is going to help me. It's the whole giving and getting back thing because it's not about donation, it's about making a difference. My biggest self-importance is helping people either physically or mentally and this is one big way to help in both categories. The steps I took to accomplish this is focusing on the lives I may help and looking at the differences I can make may last a lifetime. I was inspired by learning in medical class that
I have contributed to the Key Communities values by getting to know people in my cluster, I learned that we all came from different backgrounds. I am from a community that is not diverse and surrounded with people that had the same type of perspective on political, economic, etc. views and coming to Key was completely different. I learned that not everyone in Key had the same perspectives as me so I learned to understand where they are coming from and that it is OK to have different perspectives. It did not mean I disliked that person, I just learned that because Key is very diverse that we would be bringing different things to the table. As a cluster, we worked on a service project that we made breakfast for homeless people in Old Town. It
Volunteering and helping others less fortunate can be quite gratifying and can cancel out many negative thoughts you have about yourself
I have written previously on several occasions but all emails have been returned as undeliverable. I in-processed at the office and told to check back after the summer. I am currently in school but I am interesting in finding what volunteer activities are available. Previously, I volunteered with the ARC for several years overseas. I had been asked when I first arrived to represent the ARC at the Arsenal by a organization on post (the requester Tonya Danial) but the ARC office failed to responded to any requests. I have been contacted by the Central Alabama Chapter but the locations are out of the vicinity. I would like to volunteer here in Huntsville. I have contacted several group members but received no acknowledgement. I would like to participate on the awards committee in the interim, if a slot is available.
Allowing my body to become a liquid among a crowd of hundreds of strangers takes courage, but at the same time, the surrounding individuals of the mass depend on my body’s support. Collectively, concerts exemplify a community in which each member equally represents the composite group while remaining wildly original. My first experience with this community occurred in tenth grade when I decided to attend a rock music festival, Bled Fest, and then obsessed over trying to look the part of a hard-core rebel, a persona I do not identify with. Upon arrival, I watched hundreds of people line up to enter the venue, but only a few of them fit the stereotype that I held. As I hesitantly made my way to the main stage, I noticed the damp, warm air and
After reading the article, I feel that God is calling me to give back to my community in some way. Initially I was not too sure how, but after reflecting on my talents, I have an idea. My characteristics are my greatest gifts and talents. I have realized that my talents are that I am humble, dedicated, resilient, compassionate, goal focused, and understanding. However, I can best highlight my talents when I share my time with others.
As an American I am obligated to help my fellow citizen and my community. Grace Lee Boggs was an American philosopher, author, feminist, and social activist. She once said “You cannot change any society unless you take responsibility for it, unless you see yourself as belonging to it and responsible for changing it.” We often want change but are not willing to cause it. As an individual I must first recognize my part in the community, then step up and start taking my duties to help my community seriously. Before I moved to West Virginia my church had a “Reformer's Unanimous” program, It helped addicts come off their addiction. We had a detention center right by our church, and a lot of the ladies would come over for the program. I used to volunteer
