Basketball, with a long history in the United States, is a great sport on several levels, played in high school, college, and even professionally. For years, basketball has intrigued thousands of people, including myself, to see sportsmanship, strategy, and endurance at its best and its most interesting. I love basketball because it not only shows how a game should be played- players drenched in sweat but all reaching towards one goal and working together as well as perfecting themselves- but it is also a game that inspires me to do my best in everything whether it be academic, physical, or mentally. Basketball is the model sport because it is a game of endurance, inspiration, and victory whether a team wins or not.
Basketball is an extremely
An all time favorite activities of me to do and to watch is basketball. Basketball is something I relish because it's exciting and really affecting, I started playing when I was in fourth grade. When I became attentive in basketball it was because I was trying out sports that year and I determine I admired it and really, enjoying it. Basketball is something my dad, and my brother plays, too. My brother and I try to practice, and learn from each other when we both have the time to practice.
Smack! Everyone could hear the sound of Billy getting smacked by Bob and Billy was on the floor with a big red mark on the side of his head. Everyone was shocked that Bob hit Billy for no reason but the next thing you know everyone is fighting in the middle of the basketball court and all the parents, referees, and kids were all trying to get to Bob and some of the parents were protecting Bob.
“Come on guys,” I yelled. I heard the screech of the referee’s whistle. Rushing to the bench, I heard the referee call out “Timeout, Heat.” Everything was on the line and our team’s championship hopes, being foremost on our team’s minds, was all coach could scream about. “I’m not going to tell you how to play basketball,” he yelled out. “That’s your job. I’m just going to say that right now, to us, this is a championship game. If we win this, we move on to the championship. If not, at least let us fall valiantly.” That got the whole team riled up as we rushed back onto the court. The crowd, encouraging as always, yelled out their approval on the fact that we were giving it our all. With just sixteen seconds left in the game and our team down by four, something special had to happen or we were done for the season.
The cool thing about humans, is no two are exactly the same, every one is different in their own way. We’re all defined in unique ways, some by their jobs, some by their livelihood, or interests such as basketball. This is one of my favorite things to do in life, there's just nothing better than setting foot on that court. When basketball season starts to roll around, memories from past years come flooding in. Being able to smell the freshly popped popcorn all throughout the gym. Looking up at the crowd and seeing everyone in the stands cheering us on, arguing with refs about a call, or not really paying attention to the game at all. The feeling I get when I’m on the court is second to nothing. This is where I go when I need need to just get away and think.
My basketball is one of a kind because I received this great gift on Christmas day from my dad. What was so awesome that the rockets were playing! First, he gave me a wrapped box and I said in my mind ‘’what is it’’ second, I opened it and I was the supreme logo (a very expensive brand), and I thought wait could it be a basketball third, I opened the box and I see a supreme basketball to my knowledge. Then I see a signature and I asked who’s signature is it my dad said ‘’James Harden’’ my jaw dropped. I was so happy like a child on Christmas day.
I began playing Basketball freshmen year as a way to release my emotions and forget the thoughts that gave me stress or made me overthink. My coaches gave me the nickname of “Mean Darline” because of how tough and aggressive I would get when being on defense. Little did they know that I wasn’t good at that position because I loved Basketball but because it maintained me calm and allowed me to express myself in a socially approved activity. When the season was finished and I retired from Basketball after my sophomore year I went back to going to the gym three to four times a week. Gym workouts or any physical activity is great to rechannel one’s unacceptable impulses without others criticizing us for our actions.
“Are you interested in this?” , my dad asks multiple times about multiple sports. I as a four year old just learning about sports, and watching them with my family decide that basketball is for me. So I go on to rec league… I learn how to dribble, pass, and shoot. Time passes and by middle school I can shoot left-handed layups, cross-over behind my back and in between my legs. High school is here.. and I become even more advanced not just with fundamentals, but mentally, and even more aggressively, and physical. I have a purpose, I love the game, and I want to play it as long as I can.
Basketball time. Halfway through the season. It was game night. I was nervous. I always got nervous for basketball games. So after school I’m getting all my stuff ready and I’m putting on my basketball uniform. I had to get fired up. So I listened to some Kanye West. Ok. I was ready. My mom drove me to my game. I put my bag in the locker room. I go out on the court and warm up with the other girls. I’m getting even more nervous. BUUZZZ. That’s the buzzer. Time to go bring it in. Our coach talks to us and tells us the play to run first. I wasn’t a starter or anything. So I sat on the bench waiting to go in. The jump ball had started. Our team got the ball. During half of the first quarter, Coach told me to go in. I went in. I did my part and I played ok.
When I was at a young age, I started to develop a love for the game of basketball. It helped me in many ways. It gave me something to do with my spare time and it helped me with whatever problems I may have had going on. For many people, their escape is different music, reading, or alone time. Whatever it may be, we all have one and I found that mine was basketball.
Basketball was a new experience to me a few years ago, but i never realized I was going to love it. When I was younger, I’ve always wanted to play the sport of basketball, and I got my opportunity to play when I was in fifth grade at Monte Vista Elementary.
Basketball has been a huge part of my life since I was really small. I’ve loved the sport since I was introduced to it at the age of four. It has had the best outcome out of all the sports i’ve ever played. When I’m playing basketball i’m in a totally different world. I feel
Learning the game of basketball has changed my life for the better. As a little girl, my father believed that I would be an incredible athlete. As soon as I could shoot a basketball, my dad took me to a park to develop my skills. Practicing constantly led me to fall in love with the sport. Basketball became more than just a game, it became a passion. Pursuing this passion has been rewarding, inspiring, and empowering.
Why do I love basketball. I love it because it’s a competitive sport. I am a competitive person and I want to win. I love it because I can learn anything about the game quick. Whether it be a play or a simple skill. I love it because I can play however I want. I wasn’t one of those kids who saw an NBA star play and just wanted to be like him, or had someone put a ball in my hands at an early age. I first met basketball through my brother. He was playing at Ridgeview High School. His games were fun and entertaining to watch. Watching him play made me want to play too.
It all started a while ago when I decided to try a new sport. Basketball isn't easy. I learned this the first time I tried playing it, and even now I still struggle a bit in some drills. However, through my years of playing basketball, I've learned that practice makes perfect.
When I was a kid, I thought I would play soccer like my dad. Then I started to watch basketball and was fascinated by the sport. I loved the way the people would do a move and leave their opponent on the ground. I was very impressed how people could shoot from very far away and make the shot. I have started playing basketball a lot more and I am loving the sport. Now I am trying to become a pro basketball player and go all the way. I believe I can go all the way because, I have been enjoying basketball since I was little, I now play in high school basketball, and I also went all the way to play in the playoffs. I believe I can make the National Basketball Association.
