The only foreign country I have even been to is Canada. And sure, Canada is great. I love Canada. Without Canada we would not have Canadian bacon, maple syrup, or teen pop sensation Justin Bieber, but it is not much different from America. I honestly would not have known I was in another country if it were not for the Canadian flags hanging outside of people’s houses where the American flags usually go. Of course it is an exciting experience to cross an invisible boundary to another part of the world, but the excitement is equal to that which I have jumping from North Carolina to South Carolina when visiting Carowinds, or driving past the big green “Welcome to Virginia” sign on the highway. The Earth is full of interesting, and exciting people, and places that I could learn a multitude of new information from. I know that there is a whole world of culture and perspective that I am missing out on. If I were to take a semester of study abroad as a part of the International Honors Program at Lloyd International Honors College I would learn more about who I am as a person and what I want to do with my life, and be inspired to learn more and push myself to better schoolwork and success at UNCG. …show more content…
I am young, and have a long time left to decide what to do with my life, and maybe even change my mind a few times. I need to experience the world, and discover all the possibilities I have before I can truly make a decision on what my future will be like. The best way to do that, I believe, would be to study abroad. Living a different lifestyle, being surrounded by different people, and learning about things that are different from what I am used to could teach me a lot about myself. I could discover a new passion, or reignite an old one in my mind. All things considered a semester abroad would help me to decide what I want my future to look like, or solidify the decisions I have made for myself
This greater sense of complexity within the world would enhance my personal and intellectual progress. Studying abroad would establish my ability to communicate and connect with other nations and cultures. It would widen my view of the world and even help me have an improved understanding of the culture I live in. Working to understand it would be a prodigious start to developments, within myself and learning to transform the world around me for the better. My overall experiences granted through the university would exponentially escalate, aiding me in becoming a self-sufficient, confident person. I want to do my absolute best for myself and those around me, which means doing my best to fully understand the world I live in. The better I can understand and work efficiently in the circumstances we live under, the quicker our world can progress into a greater state than it is currently in. Increasing my critical thinking skills and awareness of what is happening around me can help me transform the society we live in and enable me to pass that knowledge along to
“But honey, we have to. I know you don’t want to leave your friends, but your father has a great job oppurtunity up there.” said my mom while we were packing up all of our belongings for our move to Saskatchewan, Canada.
I want to study abroad because I want to learn and explore in a different country. I realized that I wanted to study abroad around the time that I started high school and I thought this might be the only chance I may get to travel outside of the country. I hope to gain more insight from this amazing opportunity and taking classes would help me in my academics and eventually professional goals. Studying abroad would be a stepping stone for me because while I would be taking classes that would help in my advancement in my field of study. I would also be in a country I could learn more information about whether it be the history, the food, or exploring the beautiful places nearby.
Modern students are expected to be culturally diverse in our globalized world. We are more internationally connected than ever and this requires us to have a better understanding of other cultures. The sampling of other cultures lets those who studied abroad to evaluate their own culture and realize the pros and cons. Nowadays, there has been an increasing trend toward studying abroad among students, especially the ones from developing countries where their education systems are not as advanced as the one of developed countries. People hold different opinions about the positive and negative aspects of studying overseas. Some argue that there are several challenges and difficulties when living in a totally strange land that causes students not to concentrate absolutely on their living. Others, however, assert that pursuing educational opportunities overseas is a life-transforming chance. I find the latter opinion more convincing because of the advantages of learning a new language and culture, improving self-reliant skill as well as

I think studying abroad makes you gain some self confidence and know how to handle responsibilities by yourself. I will be able to rebuild my life from scratch. I will get to meet different people who lead to different cultures and I will meet an entirely new culture. I will get to ask the friends I will make about how is law back in their countries. How does their law differ from ours? I will be able to explore the world, the world that I yet didn’t see. I will get to see how education is in different countries and get to experience it. Being an international student will help meet other international students and I will get to ask and see how cultures differ and what are their traditions are like. The steps I take are my future; I am the one who move my feet towards the goal I want. It is what I want to be and what I will hopefully be. There isn’t anyone who could stop me from being what or who I want to become. Yes I will be alone and I will get lost a lot of times but that is part of rebuilding who I am. That'll teach me loads of things I never knew and I will learn more about
