During the summer I volunteered at a summer camp and I took care of kids for about 8 hours daily from 8 in the morning to 4 in the afternoon. at the summer camp I had to take care of a group of children on my own or with another camp counselor. If I were by myself I would take care of 5 to 10 kids at a time. I would have to give them snack when it was snack time and take care of all there needs. I also worked at the front desk at the facility taking care of all the parents and answering all their questions they had about the summer camp program. I have been playing varsity lacrosse for over three years going into my fourth. Playing this sport has helped me to work well with other and how to be coordinated. This sport has allowed me
All my life, my parents have taught me to express emotion, hard work, and perseverance through lacrosse. While playing has its own downfalls, such as injuries and time consumption, the game builds character for its players. Playing sports through my years of maturing has taught me leadership, control of emotions, and the concept that success comes from hard work. Through middle school and high school, I participated in the association of Flower Mound Lacrosse. Lacrosse was not popular in Texas, so everyone was a beginner; that included myself.
Assisted young children between the grades of preschool to 8th grade in their education. I decided to volunteer because the children of today will be the children of the future and the more smart and educated they are the better they will be in the future. Another reason I helped was because it is hard for young children to adapt to the lifestyle of constantly moving from one place to another. Since their parents are migrants it can have a negative impact on them and their education. I remember one little girl is from Florida but every summer her parents move up to Michigan to work in the fields, but once the harvest is over they move back to Florida. She was behind in school and with the help of teachers and myself we motivated and helped her out so she was able to catch up. I really enjoyed volunteering the past two summers ago at the summer migrant program. If I had another opportunity to help I
I first worked for Summer at Saints last year, as a volunteer unsure of what this experience would entail. Between the first drop-off and the final pick-up, I was quickly impressed, and to some extent intimidated, by its ability to transform. The timid became unafraid, the wild became calm and the rancorous became kind. The experiences of being a volunteer, and seeing these children mature, even in the smallest ways, has been the most rewarding experience at Summer at Saints.
Every summer between 7th grade and my freshman year of college, I would volunteer at a local summer program. This consisted of helping the teachers come up with lesson plans, activities, and games to play. During my last two years, I gained more responsibilities as the “Head Leader in Training” and managed the other volunteers, while designating tasks and responsibilities. I continued working with and coming up with activities during undergrad through the organization Project Literacy. After going over the lessons with the students, we would have a group activity or play a variety of sports with them. Working with children
Tragic situations come a long way. I’ve heard stories of people dying in car crashes or losing their homes, but there are those stories that you can never let go of and keep thinking of. This was one of them. My house gardner, Jalasio Ambrosio, immigrated to the USA less than a decade ago, when Mexico was in a state of unrest. Jalasio, a man with very little education, was barely able to make a living in a town where house prices exceed one million dollars. Due to his inability to support his family, with just the income of his wife and himself, his son, Tony , was forced to drop out of school to help his parents. After hearing this, I was alarmed at the possible domino effect this could create, such as him not being able to survive in the future and so on. My belief that all children, no matter their circumstances, should receive a standard education led me towards beginning tutoring students of all ages, especially those who were underprivileged. I did not want to see other students end up in this kind of staggering situation.
Having played the sport of Lacrosse for the previous 4 years, now going on my fifth i can definitely say that at the beginning I had a big problem. I wasn’t as good as the skilled players, but I also wasn’t much of a competitor. I first started playing in my first year of eighth grade but i never found any success so i took a year off. During that small time off I missed something. I missed being on the bench, And
I would say one way that athletics has affected me is learning the importance of hard work and determination. It's taught me that no matter what situation you're in that if you work hard enough you can achieve your goals both on and off the field. Before when something was hard I would either try to find the easy way out or simply give up. Even though that might work temporarily, I've learned through many years of playing sports that powering through and getting the job done, no matter how difficult it may be, is always more rewarding and better than giving up.
While attending a small school, one can choose either to be involved in nothing, or in everything. During my time as a student at Burrton High School, I chose the latter. While at Burrton, I participated in almost every club, sport, and activity the school had to offer, especially in leadership positions. These positions taught me many lessons which have helped me improve as a leader and as a person.
For example, maybe one day someone was mad or upset, but there is one problem-solver; softball. Softball will get rid of any unneeded and unwanted anger and stress. When I practice, I practice so hard that it takes all of my worries away. It keeps me motivated and helps me to stay focused on the important things in life. It helps me to push myself to my limits harder and harder every day. Softball can also help someone improve their techniques and skills. All in all, this activity is a very enjoyable, yet helpful, sport.
I had advantage over other players in speed and keen awareness, with the believe that no pain, no gain. I always trained myself everyday. I thought anything about sports was beneficial
It aids in many sports such as football, soccer, and ultimate frisbee, as well as capture the flag (my personal favorite). Once in P.E, I single footedly outran almost half of an entire team when I was the only
“Wow...that’s awful. It’s no wonder you’re afraid,” I replied. There wasn’t much I could do. This teen was struggling with drug abuse and feared leaving a gang whose members murdered his brother. But candidly speaking, I wasn’t there to solve his problem—all I could do was listen.
During the summer I work at a summer camp. I am Head Lifeguard, Head Counselor and Director of Sports. It is a fairly large camp with, on average, 140 campers a year. Ages in the camp range from 5-12 years old. Sometimes we have problems with the kids but most of
I stretched up taller pushing off with my left leg to jump to the right hand hold and complete and climb. Height was not the only advantage the other climbers had over me. To even attempt the rocky face I needed to learn about amplification.
When I was around 17 years old, I worked at a daycare for low-income children called Kingdom Children. I was in charge of a group of school-aged children. My main priority was to ensure they were safe and provided for while they were there. However, my second duty was to help the students with homework, teach them new skills, and mentor them. Aside from babysitting, it was my first experience teaching and working with children. I remember it being very difficult at times but also rewarding. Many of these kids had difficult home lives and behavioral problems. There were times when I needed help, but I learned a great deal from seeking help. I realized a support group was crucial, and fortunately, I had a great one. I also learned about various
