Personal Narrative: Working At The Illinois State Fair

Last summer I worked in the Credentials Office at the Illinois State Fair. Part of my job was to balance the accounts at the end of the day for all of the credentials, tickets, and lanyards sold. For a full month of my job we matched to the penny the balanced on what we sold compared to what people bought.
A girl named Jessica was hired one week. After the second day she was hired we started getting a couple dollars off balance. I double and tripled the cash to make sure it was not my mistake. Sure enough it was still a few dollars short. As soon as I noticed I brought the attention to my boss. She didn’t seem too worried about it because the amount was so small so we moved on. As the following week arrived, the amount of money kept increasing. Each day I still communicated the money that was off balance. A day went by and nothing happened.
After the meeting adjourned, all of the girls were paranoid that they were continually making mistakes, all but one girl, Jessica. Jessica was very confident and several times denied that it was her. Once she saw how much everyone else was hurting from the situation, she began to ask specific questions about what would happen. It became suspicious. Purposely, my boss put her in the “cash cage” where she had me supervise all the transactions. It was safe to say my job got pretty boring by standing there watching people work.
