I am writing to you because I wanted to tell you what I liked and disliked about your book Old Yeller. Some things I disliked about you book was when the oldest boy had to shoot Old Yeller which made me feel very sad. Another thing was when the oldest boy Travis was at first, being mean to Old Yeller.Travis also liked to yell at the dog which was not right. The last thing I disliked about your book was when Travis did not try put up a fight to keep Old Yeller when the man showed up and said “Old Yeller belonged to him” unlike Arliss he put up a fight. Which all turned out ok since the man let him stay with them in the end. Now somethings I liked about your book was when Travis took care of his family while his dad was gone also, I like
I really liked this story because Mike reminded me of myself with trying to deal with the daily problems with kids in school. My family is really tight just like Mike’s family and I see or talk to my grandparents every day. My sister and I and all of my cousins help out with family chores and take pride in our hard work.
Good Day Mr. Rodman Philbrick, I wanted to talk to you about your book “Freak the Mighty.” I enjoyed reading this book, it was actually really interesting. The thing I liked the most about this book was in the beginning of the book, when Maxwell thought that Freak was kind of weird. But then when freak moves next to his grandparent’s house, Maxwell starts to know Freak better and notices that Freak was actually a smart person. Later on the book Freak starts to help Maxwell with his school work, for Maxwell to get better get better at school. The only part that I will change in the book is the way Maxwell and Freak get to know each other. I will change the setting of the story, from the daycare, to the school cafeteria. It will start by seeing
The part of the book that I found the least desirable was when George went out of his way to help out his two friends and older brother Garland. All three were staying there rent free until George received a $300.00 bill from long distance phone calls. He had confronted all three no one wanted to admit it. Although George had his suspicions, he asked everyone to move out. He needed his apartment back anyway to focus on his graduation from dental school. I felt that what they had done was not a nice thing for someone who has been a great friend to
When we first opened the cover of the classic, Old Yeller by Fred Gipson, we learned about the life of Travis Coates. A 14-year old boy, that lives on a settlement in 1860, in Salt Licks, Texas. The story is about the events following when his father left for quite a while. A strange, yellow dog arrives at their barn, eating a supply of their meals. As they hunt together, they tie an unbreakable bond. The plotline paints the beautiful scenery and the unions that are present in this masterpiece of a book.
My biggest pet peeve with the novel is the fact that it was written in the third person. S.E. Hinton had written four young adult novels prior to Taming the Star Runner. The only difference between all of those novels and Taming the Star Runner is that they were all written in the first person. Most of the time, the main character was the narrator. I personally prefer writing and reading novels in the first person point of view, because it helps the reader and/or the writer connect to the characters in a way they never thought imaginable. It is almost like you are inside the main character’s head and you are feeling everything they feel. In this novel, I never felt heavily impacted by any of the character’s emotions or life problems. Ponyboy, in The Outsiders, would describe things in very vivid detail. Not once while reading Taming the Star Runner was I able to visualize the setting and the characters in my head. There was not one moment where an event or characters were told or introduced in beautiful detail. It almost seems like she was rushed to publish it and wrote it without all of her heart in it. To be completely honest, I forgot S.E. Hinton wrote the book while I was reading it, because the style she wrote Taming the Star Runner in was unrecognizable. Overall, S.E. Hinton excels in writing in the first person, and in my opinion, made a career-altering mistake with trying to write in the third person for Taming the Star
and it is a nice way to tie the book together. Another aspect that I enjoyed was how Ray fought
Tyrell, written by Coe Booth, is a story about a fifteen year old young man attempting to make use of his life in Bronxwood, a town in New York City. Bronxwood is notorious for its drug abuse and criminal charges, so Ty, as referred to in the book, has troubles trying to look out for his family and friends. This book is quite the unique and one of the more straight-forward books out there. It consists of a lot of sex, profanity, fights, drug abuse, and alcohol abuse. I know most of these parts make for a unique plot, but they really catch you off guard and proceed to keep you engaged.
I don’t like the way the government treats people in this book. The government is too controlling. In the book you are only allowed two kids per family. The government can see everything you are doing on a computer or hear what you say when you are calling someone. They can also make you do what they want. For example if they need more land they can take yours, or if they
The start of old yeller is about a 14 year old boy name Travis whose da is battling in the civil war. He lives with his mammma and his young brother little Arliss. Arliss is a troublemaker; he packs his pockets with animals, feathers, diamondback snake, and baby possum pretty much anything that catches his eye. He screams loudly for no reason or to catch someone’s attention. Arliss is a big hassle and annoying. He is like an apple that is never going to get ripe.
The novel begins with Travis moving to a completely new town with his grandfather, who at the time he did not quite get along with. This change brings a whole new set of problems on top of the ones he is already facing. Within
Both the book and movie, Old Yeller, have things in common. In the two stories, Travis owned a dog named Bell. Bell died shortly after suffering a bite on the nose by a diamond rattlesnake. A second similarity between them occurred when Mr. Searcy traveled home leaving his daughter behind. Mr. Searcy left Elizabeth with Travis’ family to help with the chores.
And from a person like myself that doesn't like reading at all, I give this book all the credit it deserves for being filled with fascinating stories. Another attribute that i liked about this book is that it was simple to a certain extent. Gary never tried to use these giant words that only a select amount of readers would understand. That helped me feel more apart of the book because i never felt like i got lost in the words or didn't know what something meant. Another great thing about this book is how much he is in the nature. While i was reading this book i wanted to be outside more. I wanted to interact with nature and get out in the wilderness. This books examples of survival situations and outdoor encounters with animals encourages kids and adults of all ages to go outside and to me that is something that we need more of. All in all, this book was a great read for me. It kept me interested from the first to the last page. Not once while i was reading was i thinking to myself that i didn't want to read
I didn’t really like the book cause... They are grade fivers who have parties like when I was in grade five I would stay in side and have sleepovers with friends but no these kids have big parties when their parents aren’t home, when I was I was in grade five I didn’t even know how to make toast, Toast but these kid make big parties like there in grade nine or ten. But they still cry and call their parents daddy and mommy now yes I do know that some people do call their parents by daddy and mommy but when you get older you just don’t any more so if you can have big parties you can stop calling your parent’s mommy and daddy like really.
i think your way that what you used when you reading the book and issued the voices of animals it is so clarify for the informations for childrens , thus it connects the names of animals and their voices ،also it is so important strategie of the read for childrens , i really liked
Rowley and Greg are not the most popular kids in school ¨I´ve been trying to be a lot more careful about my image ever since i got to middle school¨ (Kinney 18). The book is very well wrote if you are looking for a funny exciting book that is not boring to read. Its like every other kids life he has an older brother that likes to pick on him named Rodrick and an annoying little brother that gets whatever he wants his name is Manny ¨When I woke up this morning and went downstairs there were about a million gifts under the christmas tree. But when I started digging around , there were hardly any gifts with my name on them. But Manny made out like a bandit. He got every single thing he circled in the catalog¨ (Kinny 120). So over I enjoyed reading and writing about Diary of a wimpy kid it was a fun read not too hard or not to easy i am really looking forward to the next books. I enjoyed how the book also had pictures if you didnt understand what they meant in the reading it helped to look at the pictures to get a better understanding. So I did like this book and i give it a great review and would recommend this book to a person that likes a fun quick
