At Doctor Sigh’s office I learned the importance of respect, teamwork, customer service, patient care, how a dental office runs everything. Growing up the main question a child is asked is, “What do you want to be when you grow up? “ , and most kids respond saying a doctor, lawyer, or a cop. In reality not everyone sticks to their first idea, and it’s slim that they actual start working in the chosen career. In my case, I have always wanted to work as a social worker or a therapist, but I realized it wasn’t in my budget. Therefore, I have decided; as well as, grew interest in being a dental assistant for a pediatric office.
Choosing a carrier has been a difficult task. The endless options use to overwhelm me. I feared choosing a carrier in which I was not going to be happy with. This kept me paralyze for many years, unsure and unwilling, to make a decision. Today, I’m working on not letting that fear consume my essence and take the best of me. Something I know for sure, I love working with my hands, it helps me stay calm and relax. I have always been interested in helping other and in working in the health field. Additionally, working on this assignment was very rewarding. I interviewed Karina Perez, a Registered Dental Hygienist. Becoming a Dental Hygienist is my aim, it has become my long-term goal. Therefore, being able to interview someone in the field not only brought me confidence to continue my path, I also met a Hygienist that graduated from the same college I’m interested in applying.
If you have been considering a Dental Career, you might find that becoming a dental assistant is an excellent way to gain good employment at a reasonably good rate of pay per hour. Not only do well trained dental assistants start at a good rate of pay they also have the opportunity to move up by training as a dental hygienist or even going to a dental school to eventually become a dentist.
Physician Assistant A physician assistant work in all areas of medicine. They also help with surgeries. I was stuck between this career and being a paramedic.
Throughout my life people have commented that I should be in a profession that worked with people. Upon completing high school, I was not certain exactly what I wanted to do. I was interested in working with people but I determined that my dislike for blood and other unpleasant things dissuaded me from those type of careers. I chose Engineering as I though my interest in math and science would be a good fit. I found that what I enjoyed most were the projects, labs and working as a team. It was missing the direct involvement of helping people. I had often thought of dental hygiene as I enjoyed my visits to the dentist office and we have family friends that are both dentists and dental hygienists. I started to research what other options
I am not where I would like to be, but I am on the right path to get to where I need be in order to achieve my goals and dreams.
Many invaluable experiences helped me decide my path to dentistry, starting from my swim competition, to voluntary activity, and to a dental assistant. I became captivated by healthcare professional careers ever since I realized that it involve creativity, technical and scientific expertise and helping others. I was pursuing a career that will make me feel satisfied, challenged and rewarded, then I concluded, the dentistry was a great fit. From my first swimming competition, I gained an inexplicable satisfaction and a sense of accomplishment. I was swimming like it was a matter of life and death until my hands hit the wall.
Our teeth are some of the most overworked bones in our body. We use them to grind, gnaw, crush, and pulverize food every day. Despite this workload, we still expect our teeth make us look fabulous when smiling for the camera. Imagine life without teeth. Imagine life with false teeth. Would we smile as much? Would we still enjoy our favorite foods? Let’s explore these questions further as they have played major role in my short career as a registered dental assistant.
At the age of 16 I had my son Ezikel, he is now six years old and is a wild, exciting, creative young boy he is my biggest blessing. When I found out I was going to have a child at such a young age I had one thing on my mind and that was “I refuse to be a statistic” I went on to find a high school for teen moms; Florence Crittenton High School, I was determined to graduate high school and move on to college. I completed High School in 2011 and got a scholarship I went to CCD but I felt it wasn’t quick enough for me , I felt as if I had to rush and get a career to support me and my son. I then went to working dead end jobs I felt like a failure, this is not what I planned on for my post high school life, I felt ashamed and I had let my son down.
I was accustomed to viewing the dental office from a patient’s perspective; however, this has changed after enrolling in a dental assistant course. The course intrigued my interest though the hands on learning, along with the opportunity for direct patient care. Although the course has prepared me to become a dental assistant, it has also introduced me the various dental health occupations. Ultimately, inspiring me to expand my career in dental health and pursue an education in dental hygiene.
I interviewed a dental assistant by the name of Cheandrea Sanders the 19th of December and got plenty of information I could use in my career along the line. Her job is the same exact job I plan to do once I finish at Lawson. Working with kids has been something I’ve wanted to do since I was younger. One thing I may not like in this occupation is bad breath or a kid biting me, but seeing kids happy and smiling is something I live for on a day to day basis. Three ways the interview influenced me was to get a step ahead and look around for dental offices now, dental assistants will always be needed, and to never give up even when life throws a curve ball.
Growing up, I spent a lot of time in hospitals for family members, naturally speaking some interest in me to work in one. Seeing the way some hospitals were run, how some patients were treated, how people come there in their time of need and are really not wanting to be there sparked my interest. My experience in the hospitals mainly takes place in either ICU cardiac unit, the nursery, or the women hospital in general. While most of my experiences with my family and I were great, others experiences were not. Seeing the look on others faces while sitting on their beds looking over into a family members room has left an impression on me, and is something that I want to help with.
Since my previous application, I continued to work as a dental assistant until April 2014 when I left in order actively pursue the possibility of studying dentistry out of the country. During that time, I worked as a substitute teacher and was surprised to learn that children are not educated about oral health. My time here inspired me to become a pediatric dentists and I plan on being extensively involved with the school board. Shortly after being accepted into a dental school in Poland, Dr. Myles Spodak contacted me. He asked if I would consider coming back to work with him as his assistant. Dental hygiene is very important and the people at Sima dental are there to help, while working there I experienced what it was like to be a dental assistant while watching the doctors perform difficult dental procedures. This experience has encouraged me to further my studies in the field of dental hygiene. In this paper, I will be describing the tasks I undertook as a dental assistant while overseeing the dental operations at Sima dental as well as articulating the skills that I have acquired while being an intern.
