Personal Statement: A Career As A Health Care Administrator

A time in my life in which I have been successful is when I graduate from college. Even though this was my second degree I was going to receive, it was the next stepping stone to heighten my career in healthcare. It was an uneasy decision, but I was determined to achieve my Bachelor’s in Science in Healthcare Administration.

Since the inauguration of my health care career at Keck Medicine of USC, I knew there would be no other academic institution that could better prepare me to excel at becoming a leader amongst the health care community. I have inquired with multiple USC hospital employees about the EMHA program, and all have spoken with high regards that USC offers an excellent healthcare administration master’s degree. I hope to be challenged intellectually while developing leadership skills necessary to mature into a successful leader. My work experience has prepared me to undertake the challenges that would be associated with remaining a full time employee at USC while pursuing an Executive Master of Health Administration.

Since I have started working within the NHS over the last year, I have had more opportunities to work with members of different professions both in the NHS and voluntary sector. This experience has helped me develop a better understanding of how patient care is made up of a multitude of smaller parts.

Earning this graduate degree would mean more than just an education, an achieved aspiration, or a possible job promotion. This degree would give me the components to be a better leader in the healthcare community. It would provide me the opportunity to becoming an administrator while promoting the challenges that are occurring with the ever evolving healthcare field. Learning to be a successful leader and directing a diverse organization does come with challenges but this degree will set up a platform that will teach me how to effectively apply values and principles that not only shoulder change but encourage it in our healthcare community.

I have had a passion for becoming a healthcare provider for children for quite a while (for a long time). Children are one of the most important individuals of society because they are the future and will one day be in charge of the world. Their health at a young age is indicative to how their health will be as adults. Childhood has a great effect on how a person turns out to be so I hope to help children I hope to use prevention and education to preserve and restore the health of my patients. My career goals are to prevent children from having to spend time in hospitals or in pain and to help them live out their life and dreams to the fullest extent. Children play a very large role in their families, and when a child becomes sick, the whole family becomes distressed. Pediatricians not only heal children, but they help and prevent a family from suffering. I love medicine and children, and I hope to combine these two passions by becoming a pediatrician.

I was nine years old when my family made the strenuous decision to come to America; with only a few clothes and barely any money, the pursuit of the American dream seemed more like a fantasy than anything else. Ever since I was young, I was drawn to the medical field. Looking back, it all appears as a nightmare now: a cold room, no electricity, and my parents imploring for the nurses help. Yet this nightmare was my first-hand experience of the detrimental effects of a limited health care. Growing up in a poor town in Albania, I faced minor health concerns, but it wasn’t until I got sick with a common cold that my life almost ended. The unsanitary hospital condition and the lack of medications were part of the sad reality I could not escape from. Thus today, it is my goal to make a significant contribution to the health of the future generations. My passion for the medical field combined with my determination on building and perpetuating an outstanding healthcare service, has led me to pursue a master’s degree in Health Administration

Throughout my career, I expect that standard will change as new research shows improved ways of caring for patients. It will be important to continue to learn about these new changes in order to provide the best care possible for these patients. Being able to know that I am providing the best care possible will allow my confidence in myself to continue to grow as I know I am doing the right thing.

I found the job of a Public Health Administrator to be the most fascinating. I think this way because they get to go around the community and prevent diseases and they also get to promote health.

My goal is to have a career in health care management. While researching careers, I discovered health care management. I choose health care management as my career option for two reasons. I’m looking for a career where I can do what I passionate about and impact lives. These are important factor in my career choice. Health care management met my two requirements and at that point I knew this was the career for me. I firmly believe that any career I pursue should be one that I’m passionate about. One of my passions is helping others. Health care managers help patients just as much as doctors, nurses and other clinical professionals. For me it’s very imperative that I find a career were I would have impact the lives of others. This would ensure that I’m fulfilling one of my purposes in life. A nurse practitioner, is a profession that I have wanted to pursue for many years. The Family Nurse Practitioner program of the County of Los Angeles Department of Health Services and California State University of Los Angeles will provide the advanced level of education I need, to provide evidence based practice care to a wide variety of patients. My goal is to utilize this level of expertise and knowledge to give back to the community especially to the underprivileged inmate population in the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department by providing them easy access to high quality, patient centered and cost effective health care.

My mission is to become a professional who would manage, lead, and improve a dynamic healthcare system. Understandably, marketing and public relations in healthcare require financing and regulations to make positive impacts in the lives of clients and co-workers. My interest in taking a healthcare career was founded on three factors: leadership, quality improvement, and healthy aging. My career mission is founded on emerging as a skilled servant leader by not doing the job for myself, but to fulfill the organization’s mission. I would prefer serving my clients without an ego and I will include both paperwork helping patients, staff members and official meetings. Overall, I am passionate about a client-directed philosophy that puts the health needs of patients above the convenience of my organization. The current situation demands that healthcare practitioners build healthcare models in the needs of clients served rather than the customs of staff.

As an administrator of a long-term care facility you must ensures a smooth, yet highly quality and professional acceptable operation. You may spend a lot of time in meetings, conference calls and other things that involve your facility. You also may have to attend community meeting outside your facility with other administrators and variety of different health care professional. This community meeting will keep you up to date with new development and job functions for you organization. On a day to day basic you will oversee the business office, nursing department and all of your other operational decisions. You will also develop and implements nursing home policies and procedures to comply with federal, state and local requirements and to fulfill licensure

Healthcare has many different areas one can go into if interested in this field. I have chosen two that have always been an interest to me; Nursing (particularly registered nursing) and an EMT (Emergency Medical Technician). Both jobs are very demanding and extremely important. Both are respected jobs and require a tremendous amount of caring for others.

Management as it relates to the health services realm requires a deep understanding of coordinating the delivery of healthcare. One must be able to utilize frameworks to recognize and develop solutions to challenges within managing healthcare. My desire to become a health services manager (HSM) spawns directly from this concept of identifying an issue and being able to present interventions and approaches to improve the overall quality of life for communities.
