I have accomplished lots of things in my lifetime. I have accomplished getting a job and getting my license to go to that job. I have accomplished working two jobs one is being a machinist and a referee.
When I was eleven years old, my parents bought our family’s first household computer – a Compaq with a fresh installation of Windows ’95, four megabytes of RAM, a five-hundred-megabyte hard drive, and a blazing fast 28k modem. A very crude MIDI composition program resided deep within the start menu options on this machine. The interface was a counterintuitive nightmare with only a record button, eight instrument tracks, a series of blue boxes to indicate four measures of music entry, and the keyboard as the piano input. Nonetheless, having only recently established an interest in music, I spent a substantial amount of time each day learning how to enter music into this software.
Every child wants to “be something” when they grow up. A doctor, a lawyer, a veterinarian, the list continues indefinitely. Most people fixate on one particular career; even if it changes, at any given moment they have one goal. For some reason, that never happened for me. My friends and family would ask “what do you want to be when you grow up?” and I would immediately rattle off a laundry list of different things. “An inventor, a scientist, a dancer, a chef, a translator! I’m going to learn every language in existence!” was my excited reply. Apparently I was quite the ambitious child.
My name is Elana Sanguigni, and I am a sophomore student at Pine-Richland Senior High School in Gibsonia, Pennsylvania. My interest in the Health Career Academy is immense, and I exhibit a profound interest in a future career in the health industry. The Health Career Academy, would provide enlightening educating opportunities to gain valuable knowledge, pertaining to various health careers. Though I have conducted some research and analyzed various health career fields, I truly aspire to explore and learn more in order to academically prepare for a future in the health industry. My academic love for Biology, Chemistry and all science courses, in addition to my love and care for people have led me to inquire a path of future health careers to utilize my desire to help people.
Throughout my childhood and up into my middle school years, I had a solid plan for my life: to be an air traffic controller. It seemed like the perfect career for me. I am a highly organized and alert person. I like structure and to have control over the situations that surround me. And, most importantly, I find great satisfaction in helping others to meet their objectives and safely land at their desired destination. Air traffic control was the only career for me. I had my whole life planned out, including the exact airport where I would work. No one or nothing could sway me from the goals that I had set for myself.
I chose this career so that I can make everyone in the world happy. I love to cook, clean, and even give orders occasionally. I want to have my own restaurant and have many of them all around the world. I want to be able to visit these restaurants at least three times a year each. I want to make my uncle happy by succeeding in the business. I want to be like him one day, happy with what I do and very successful. I want to bake a bunch of sweets for children all around for their birthdays and even just every day parties. I want my kids to come from school every day and get a treat for being so good. Mississippi has a very low amount of employees compared to other states such as California. I may go to Texas though because it is bigger than Mississippi and my uncle also lives there.
In 2005 I decided to call it quits. I retired from the military to only find myself back in the same shop I was leading rebuilding TF39 engines as a contractor. I did this for two years until I decided to pick up the family and move to Oklahoma City to work on the B-1 F101-GE engine at Tinker AFB. Soon after, the contract died and I had to find a new job. I got picked up as a civil service employee in the same shop. I then got promoted into the F117 Heavy Maintenance Center rebuilding engines for the C17. This was a new workload and we had to set up the shop. I’m not kidding about this, we had to order, build the tooling and set up the lean cells before we even started production.
My life has been impacted immensely through my experience as a lifeguard and swimming instructor for the City of Ottawa. I have had a passion for aquatics ever since I was a young child, and remained committed towards my goal of completing various courses and certifications in order to obtain the lifeguard and swimming instructor position that I hold now. I work approximately thirteen hours a week at this job, on top of the hours I commit to my two other jobs. Aside from my paid employment, I have learned to manage my time effectively in order to participate in numerous extracurricular activities, as well as to maintain strong academic performance. As a swimming instructor, I am expected to prepare weekly and long range lesson plans for the
I will never look at a cubicle office job, a burger-flipping joint, or a salesman’s job and say, “that’s where I want to be in a few years.”. In my lifetime, I have never had an interest in an office job, quite unironically, I’ve always looked to the arts as a potential job source. I love colors, lines, shapes; I find beauty in it all. Art is all around us in this world, and I plan to contribute by becoming an animator. That is my dream job because it’s the ultimate way for me to utilize my creativity. I’ve jumped from multiple dream jobs to the next, at first I considered being a professional “fine arts” artist, working with pencil and any other medium to create classical pieces of work. As times progressed, I’ve slowly realized that the
I have come across many situation where I have had to compromise to resolve my issues. I am a cadet major in the United High School AFJROTC and was placed in a leadership position as the chief of staff. That means I help lead about 200 cadets toward common goal that is to teach them life skill that will produce better citizens. I work alongside the Group Commander and Deputy who also assist in running the corps. Our instructor often gives us many tasks to better our communication and leadership skills. Many of these tasks require us to work together as a team, but of course working together as a team doesn’t always come easy. One of the biggest challenges that I have come across so far was preparing for awards night. Awards night is a graduation for all the cadets where they receive ribbons to account for all their accomplishments
I do enjoy writing, more so about topics that interest me. I try to find something in any topic I’m given that interests me, having that mindset helps me get through the writing process much easier. I have writers block sometimes especially while writing papers for school. I am definitely a procrastinator but, I’m trying to change that in college. I am working toward becoming a better student and writer. I want to be an Elementary School teacher, so I have to know the right techniques in order to teach students. Writing for school although it is something I don’t like, I know I have to do it in order to learn and get better as a writer. One of the few times I did enjoy writing for class was an assignment that I had to research and write about
I have read the chapter on careers in child welfare, and I believe that a job in this field would be good for me. I have worked with many children during high school and college. I have work with children in the age range of 2 month-4 years old and 4 years old – 13 years old I have worked with children in different settings like after school programs and child daycares. I am very empathetic and sympathetic to the feeling of the children in these setting. I always looked out for the children and made sure they were out of harm’s way. I have listened to their problem and have given them advice. I have interacted with some parents of the children but they were more from the inner city. I haven’t really interacted with a parent who is in rural
My survey responses revealed that my two career categories are Social and Conventional. I agree with the Social category. I am currently in a Certified Nursing Assistant class and I have been accepted into numerous nursing schools in Indiana. The Social category fits me best because I enjoy working with other people, teaching others about a specific topic, and caring for others. I do not agree with the Conventional category that was assigned to me. I am not one to enjoy strictly math on a daily basis, and I would belittle myself to the fullest extent if I had a career that did not require a degree.
I want to be surrounded by writers. At my school, the only time kids are writing is when the teacher tells them to or because colleges require it. They don't care about the words they put on the page. People take AP and Honors English classes because they look challenging, not because they wish to improve their craft. I want to be in an environment that appreciates writing, believes in writers, and aspires to give everyone a chance to share their voice. I get so wrapped up in my classes that the only time I end up writing is in class during lessons. I don't want writing to be something I need to squeeze in, I want to have to squeeze in other things because I'm writing. I just want to be around thoughtful and devoted people, helping others become
While I was in college, I felt like working with children was something that I wanted to do. There are many different career paths one could take if they want to work with children. I love sports, so I decided that recreation would be a path that would allow me to work with children doing something that I love to do. For the past twelve years, I have had the opportunity to work with the residents of Cal Farley’s Boys Ranch. I work in the Youth Activities Department and my job is to provide sports programming for our pre-adolescent population. However, I am in more of an administrative role where I oversee the program the children participate in. The time I actually have working with them one-on-one or in small groups is limited. I have
