As a responsible and supportive individual I have considerable experience working within the care sector caring for individuals. I am enthusiastic and feel really passionate about working in this sector. Having worked as a registered nurse and perioperative nurse overseas, and the experience I gained here in England as a care assistant in residential homes with dementia patients and adults with learning disabilities, has enable me to realise the interest and passion I have in this sector of nursing. I have a bachelor of science in Public Health that has also broaden my knowledge in some of the issues that contributes to mental health issues, which signifies my understanding of many underlying issues behind mental health problems. I look forward
I would like to pursue a career as a Registered Nurse because I like to work with all types of people. When you become a registered nurse your job will be to arrange patient care. Also to educate the patient and the public about health conditions such as contagious viruses and diseases. According to Bureau of Labor Statistics in 2014, 2,751,000 people got jobs as registered nurses. Also according to Bureau of Labor Statistics between 2014-2024 the amount of jobs as registered nurses will grow 16% faster than average. I am choosing registered nurse as my career goal because I am passionate when it comes to helping people.
My first career interest is to be a Nurse started at a very young age when I wanted to take care of my parents when they were ill. I would always tell my parents I will take good care of them as they get older. Let alone, I enjoyed helping and taking care of people. In my spare time I would volunteer at local nursing home to visit the elderly patients and interact with them. Visiting the patients in a nursing brings lots of joy and happiness to me. With that being said, life has taken me in a different career direction, however, I am finally able to pursuing my dream and goal of becoming nurse. As I continue to pursue my journey there are several areas of the health care occupation that will enlighten my knowledge about my career of choice, such as, the job description, education and certification, employment and professional activities.
A professional career as a registered nurse can be very rewarding, but it entitles hard work and dedication. The main purpose of a registered nurse is to provide care, education, and support to their patients. Their responsibilities mainly depend on the type of file they work in. For example an emergency nurse, labor and delivery nurse, a school nurse each have specific duties they need to perform in accordance to their job. Thou, in general, an RN responsibilities are very similar.
Choosing a career can be difficult, but it take time to make the right choice. I have made the decision to become a registered nurse. On this journey I know it’s going take commitment, hard work, and maybe some tears. When I tell people what I’m going to school for that ask me “ Is that really what u want to do”, my answer “Yes”. Every since I was in high school I have dreamt of becoming a nurse. I have conducted an interview with Kim McPherson (RN) to get a better understanding what a nursing career has in stored for me. Mrs. Kim McPherson is an full time instructor for nurse adie at Southeastern Community College. Before doing this interview, I always thought having a nursing job would be easy because nurses really don’t interact with the patients only when it time to give them their medicine. Once I became a certified nursing assistant, I was completely wrong. Nurses has some responsibilities such as making the right judgment calls, giving medicine on time, safe environment. I asked Mrs. McPherson a question about having a nursing career.
I have wanted to be a nurse or a teacher for as long as I can recall. However, when I was in high school I felt as if I had a calling to serve in the military. At that time, I was very naïve and did not understand how the military worked, but I knew I wanted to serve. Then, September 11, 2001 happened and I knew what I had to do. That is when I made the decision to become a nurse and serve in the United States Navy.
“What do I want to be” was never a question I pondered too deeply. The sudden death of my father to an unknown health condition and 5months thereafter, the tragic loss of my mother helped fostered a caring and compassionate spirit often alluded by many in describing my personality. I suppose this translated to why I find it easy and satisfying to help and serve others, most especially those in a medically vulnerable state. Thus, choosing a healthcare professional, specifically nursing was a natural fit for me. The ability to be able to care for patients and bring about a meaningful change in their life serves as an outlet for me. It makes me confident to think I could have nursed my parents back to good health if I was an adult or was in this career when they were sick. However, as a ten years old living in a developing nation with inadequate accessibility to healthcare services, I was limited in what I could have done. Today, however the story is different. My story is now defined by what I am doing and what I hope to do to better save and impact lives.
I've wanted to be a nurse ever since I was a little girl. My stuffed animals, and my poor dog, would always have "injuries" that needed tending to. A band-aid here or some gauze there. After I graduated high school, I got married and then got pregnant so college got shoved aside. A few years later, after divorcing, I remarried and decided I would go to school. Well, I tried two times and ended up pregnant each time, so I waited. Finally, third times the charm, I got into a LPN class. Halfway through I found out I was pregnant again. I was determined to finish and become a nurse. I did it! I graduated in December and had my fourth child in January. Time to go to work! I went to work at a residential living center for people with disabilities.
Associate degree in nursing (AND) from a community or two-year college two-year program , bachelor’s of science degree in nursing (BSN) from a university four-year program, or a diploma from a hospital program.
The scientific and academic side of nursing is as engaging to me as the caregiving duties of the profession. I particularly enjoyed my Level 3 in Health and Social Care as I particularly enjoy the applied dimensions of the health sciences. Indeed, one of the aspects of studying nursing that appeals to me in particular is the balance between theoretical learning and its practical application in a healthcare setting that it provides. I have sought to further my scientific body of knowledge through taking a university-level course through Child Nursing.
Do you think being a RN is more than just a job or career goal? To me being a nurse is a calling or a way to help other people! I love being able to help other people and make them smile while doing it. I want to become a nurse because I love helping others, I would really love to make a difference in people's lives, and I really want to make enough money to help my family.
My short-term goals include passing my state boards upon graduation and then finding a fulfilling job as a Registered Nurse (RN) at a major local hospital. Currently, I work at Summa Akron City Hospital and it would be seamless for me if I could obtain a job there as a nurse in one of their intensive care units. After a few years of practice, I plan to get my certification in Critical Care Nursing. Beyond that, my long-term goals for the future are to attend graduate school at University of Akron and receive my Doctorate of Nursing Practice degree in critical care nursing. I would like to work in an intensive care unit during graduate school to better my nursing skills and work toward paying off loans before returning to school.
I have taken college classes for the past four years, at multiple universities. College has always been important to me, but it became even more important in the spring of 2015. I became a mother to a beautiful baby girl on April 22nd of 2015. The birth of my daughter will influence my academic work and goals in many ways. I have always had goals of finishing school and getting my college degree. I went back and forth in deciding what I wanted my major to be and finally decided on nursing. I had set my goals of becoming a nurse before I had my daughter. Now my goals are even more important to me, and I have an even bigger reason to focus on my academic work and goals of becoming a nurse. It is now, more than ever, important that I complete
The establishment of a strategic career plan assists in organizing an individual’s goals and aspirations into a successful career path. I am excited to be here and hope everyone had a great summer! I have been an RN since 2009 but have been in health care for 18 years. I began my career as a medic in the Air Force and slowly climbed up the nursing ladder by obtaining my LPN, ASN, BSN and here I am now working on my Masters. Although it has taken much longer than I expected, I have gained a world of knowledge along the way. I have worked acute care (Med-Surg/ICU/Step-down), ambulatory care (Primary Care, Disease Management), home care, Utilization Management, and Patient Safety. I am now civil service employee working as a Discharge Planner at a large military hospital. I truly enjoy my work and have gained yet another perspective about outcomes of care and I am happy to serve
“Nurses dispense comfort, compassion, and caring without even a prescription.” – Val Saintsbury This quote by Val Saintsbury has always given me inspiration to become the absolute best nurse that I can be. As a little girl I dreamt of being around the ill and comforting them in their time in need.
