I chose Social Work over other professions at a very young age. I was 8 years old when I decided I wanted to be a Social Worker. Even when I was 8 years old I could see the difference social workers make in others’ lives. To me social workers make a bigger difference in lives than any other helping profession. We go in and help with the deep issues in others’ lives. We don’t just fix the surfaces problems, we go deep and fix those. Doctors can only fix the issues that the clients come in with, if a child who lives in an abusive home comes in with a bad burn they can only fix the burn and call a hotline. When a social worker goes in and fixes the abusive home problem the child is in and give them a better environment. The doctor is just fixing that burn temporary when social workers are …show more content…
To me this is more respectable than other helping professions, it shows the true loving characters social workers have. I have the same loving and strong character social workers must have. I believe I would be a great fit for the social work program, I have the very qualities that it takes to make a great social worker. I have high empathy levels, strong compassion to help others. I have a love for diversity, meeting people that are different than me is my favorite thing. I love to learn about others and what makes them different. I am courageous, I can take care and be a leader for those who need it. I have always been able to the strong one for others when they needed the help. I can make those tough decisions to better the environment. I believe all these characteristics I have will help me in becoming the great social worker I have always wanted to be. I have an undying need to help others, I want to help make other happy with their lives. I want others to feel the same happiness I feel in my life. I want to share with them the happiness I have with my life and the feelings achievement I have
Social Workers can approach middle schools and high schools to develop a preventative CBT evidence based program to improve resilience and coping skills in the students. This process would include developing a screening process, speaking with the parents, students, school psychologist/social worker, teachers, and any other additional clinical staff that would be working on the prevention program. Once all members agree to participate in a CBT based prevention program the social worker would then administer the ASEBA and the SDQ assessments. The results of the assessments would provide the social worker and school psychologist information on the students that are at risk, to include those needing additional assessment for possible mental
I can see myself having social working as a career for the rest of my life because I like helping people face problems that they can’t face on their own. I love working with children, families, and being able to experience working with others and helping them face obstacles that their facing in their life. One of many reasons I would also enjoy social working as a career would be helping these people overcome obstacles they thought they’d never overcome. While growing up and facing tough situations in life, I always had family and friends there for me which is why I would love to help others and be there for them because it’s a great feeling knowing that you have people there wanting to listen to you and help you through problems.
I chose this job because not only do I like to babysit but also I like to work with kids that have been through a lot. I want to be a counselor to not only the kids but the parents also. If I chose this job in the future, I do believe that I would like this job. I think that I would be able to make a change in the child’s life and also the parent’s life. Its sad to see such a young child to be treated like a animal by their parents, but its also sad that the parents treat their child like a animal. I think that if I chose this job I could help child face their fear of abuse and abandonment. Being a social worker I know that they go through a lot on their job and sometimes it may be tough for them to handle their emotions. I was talking with
For years I’ve watched my family struggle to figure out who they were or who the wanted to be which made me question myself every day. Who am I? Or Who do I want to be? Til this day I still don't know who I am but I truly believe I know who I want to be. A social worker or an entrepreneur that is, I want to be able to have my own and help others even if it's with the littlest things like helping tie a shoe or picking out an outfit. It took me a while to actually figure out what I wanted to be. My elementary school teacher would ask “ What do you want to be when you grow up?”, and I would always be the student that would say “ I do not know?”. Some students would look at me funny or teachers would ask why didn’t I know what I wanted to be and I actually did not know. I was never the person just to say stuff when I didn't know if it was fully true or not.
Starting at a young age around the world children are asked what they want to be when they grow. For young children it should not even be a thought, you can barely express your emotions to others. We put such pressure on kids at a young age to know what they want to do with the rest of their lives and to pick the right profession. The typical five year old will tell you they want to be the common doctor, cop, or actor. I was one of those children that gave a generic answer.
I have wanted to be a social worker since I was in middle school. I am aware that a career in social work is not for everyone, but I believe it’s a career for me. I enjoy helping others weather it is lending a hand or helping solve a problem. Social workers are able to give back to society which is a goal of mine. I believe that I possess the skills and personality traits that a social worker needs to be effective and successful. I do not posses all of the skills a social worker needs. However, I will continue to work toward the skills I need through education and proactice.
I believe that a career in social work is a good fit for me, because all of my life I have always wanted to help others improve their lives. I have been able to easily pick up on others feeling easily, which I believe will help me see through the walls that my future clients have up.
As the saying goes, “Our children are our future” and who you are as a child can determine who you can be later on in life. It is important for a child to be in a safe, comfortable and loving environment during its development so that the child can have the full advantage to become the best he can be in his future. My future career as a social worker will ensure just that. I chose this profession because of my own history. Growing up, I’ve had my share of social workers in my house. I experienced them as people who helped my family during a hard time. This is a career where I can fight for people’s rights. I will also be able to protect
Also, in my past there has been instances that have drawn me to the field of social work. I have had a few family members who have had several different issues dealing with drugs, abuse, and their children being placed in foster care. In one case I took one of the children into my home and my parents took three children into their home. Every family has some different situations, but these incidents have opened my eyes to many new things. This is one of the reasons I feel social work would be a good fit for me. I enjoy helping others build themselves up and make a better life for them and their families. It is a blessing to be part of a team who helps families, children, and groups in need. Helping children get out of bad situations is one of the most rewarding jobs you could ever have in life.
As a social work student, I have discovered that social work is an overlooked profession. Many people used to ask me “what can you do with a social work degree?” when the real question is “what can you not do with a social work degree?” Nowadays, we are surrounded by social workers; they work in the schools, universities, hospitals, courts, prisons, different community based organizations and more. People also said that “social work doesn’t pay enough”. However, what they do not know is that every day as a social worker is rewarding; knowing that you have made the difference in someone’s life is priceless.
The social work profession as I understand essentially concerns the desire to help those in need of resources, services, and counsel. I consider the social work profession to be a passion-driven and providing career. I understand social work to be a profession providing helpful resources to those who seek assistance from others in various aspects, along with those who do not but can benefit. Being a social work professional means to me providing services only obtainable by professionals to those deserving in order to guarantee equitability, and providing sufficient counsel to those seeking professional guidance. I have always been passionate and confident when it comes to helping and giving advice to others, which ultimately interested me
Foreseeing myself as a professional social worker, I image a person helping others develop coping skills during difficult situations as well as creating strategies that will result in lasting behavioral changes. In addition to my personal experiences, I would rely
Ever since I was young I wanted to do something that helped people. I believe that people can change if they truly want to. At first I wanted to do something like being a doctor, pharmacist, or a police officer. I realized that math really was not for me and I wasn’t much of an authority kind of person. I never really knew what a Social Worker actually did because the media portrayed them as bad people who took away children. Also growing up I never had to deal with any kind of Social Worker, which is not a bad thing. I also know what it feels like to be down and alone so I want to help those who want to be better.
Social work is one of the most important professions in society today. It is a career that offers an individual the opportunity to be part of something bigger than them self and to assist those that struggle with finding the right resources and paths to move forward to a better life. A career that provides the chance to be a voice for people who remain unheard, and the setting to live a life of moral courage wherein one can stand for what they believe is right in spite of the disapproval they may encounter. These qualities are what have attracted me to a career in social work. I was raised in a home with a father that was physically abusive to my mother and mentally and emotionally abusive towards me. I witnessed acts that are still
Two years ago I made the decision to pursue my career as a Social Worker. My main reason is the fact that I would love to detect, investigate and help every individual who is part of a society to have access to the same rights and helps just like anyone else. Put in use my personal values as a way of connecting with society and different types of communities by conversing with them in a positive way. Bringing people in need, support and hope so that they can make a better life. I want to be seen and used as a great tool of humanity. I am a firm believer that doing good, allows you to see the true value in life and in the world.
