When I started elementary school my parents said to me “Try your best”. They have continued to say this ever since only, in high school, it changed to “Aim high and try your best”. I did aim high and I did try my best. I took their advice, and it has paid off for me so far, and now I’m telling myself the same thing for college and my career. Academic success does not come easily to me. I have had to work long hard hours to keep my grades up. But I’m willing to do it, so I think my goal of a career in healthcare will take some effort, but it is within reach.
There are a number of reasons I want to be a doctor. I’m better at STEM subjects and took honors biology as a freshman, calculus, AP Physics and AP Environmental Science as a Junior. Senior

They took me to the local orphanage, where I stayed until my adoptive parents came to get me 14 months later. I’ve been back to China. I’ve seen the place I was found, I’ve been my orphanage. Most of the children there are not as lucky as I was. The sick, frail and handicapped ones especially. I’ve learned Chinese since kindergarten and took AP Chinese as a freshman, so between freshman and senior years, I was able to volunteer on three occasions, at an orphanage for handicapped children in WuQing, China. There I had the awesome experience of witnessing how well even severely handicapped children can develop with the right professional care and attention. I was allowed to help with therapy and saw the results. This experience was empowering for me and I soon decided I would seek a career in health care. I tend to pretty much keep my feet on the ground and not dream too much, but I think my ideal career path would be to volunteer with an international organization after graduation and then open a family practice in an area of the US where I can serve the community. Of course there are many health related careers, but I’m going to aim high and try my best and become a
Being an emergency medical physician means playing against the clock in order to save lives. This job is required to be top notch in intelligence, speed, and accuracy leaving no room for errors. In the field of emergency medicine, this job has numerous tasks and characteristics that must be practiced constantly. This includes, but is not limited to: basic life support and advanced trauma life support. I find the position of an ER physician to best suit me because of my need for precision and love for adrenaline.
Strength can be said to come from a position of having the power to handle a certain situation. As I have been working in healthcare for a while, I have expertise in clinical performance which is my strength. Though it is at times overwhelming, talking to patients and advocating for them is an area I am most comfortable with. I advocate for them by reporting to the nurse a change in a patient’s status and reporting it promptly; whether a patient is hypoglycemic or hypotensive. Being a nursing assistant gives the necessary insight to acknowledge areas that need to be prioritized when dealing with many patients, such as what patient to attend too first. As a nursing student also and working as a patient care associate gives me a better understanding to identify these certain changes.
Recently I have decided to change my career choice from being a nurse to being a healthcare administrator. Life has a way of showing you what it thinks is best for you. I had to find out a hard way that nursing really wasn’t what I was supposed to do for the rest of my life. Once I found this out I had to take a step back and look at what I wanted to do, something that I would love to do for the rest of my life. After taking some time and looking around at my options I finally decided on Healthcare Administration. I feel that I would be good at this job and it is something that I can see myself doing for the rest of my life.
Throughout this document, readers will understand a few syllabus that I feel are important for my future career within the healthcare industry, some challenges I encountered, accomplishments, and opportunities that I have gained over the past seven weeks. In addition, taking the step to further my education is an accomplishment for me because if I did not decide to seek my dreams I would still be working at a convenience store. Furthermore, without this course I will not be able to obtain my college degree and seek employment in the healthcare industry. Therefore, it was a pleasure taking this class because I had the ability to gain more knowledge and skills for an administrative job. In addition, there are several insurance plans available throughout the United States; therefore, it is important to have the patient bring their insurance card with them upon arrival to verify his/her coverage.
Entering the healthcare profession comes with great responsibilities and many new experiences and challenges that most have never faced before. With any new job, whether it be a Doctor or a grocery store clerk, some type of change is required in us. With a new job, we are faced with new people, new rules, and new expectations. Unfortunately, it’s not always easy to adjust to all the “new” and it can become overwhelming. As humans, it’s easy for us to fall into certain patterns or habits in which we find it truly hard to break from. For example, hitting the snooze button every morning, even though I specifically make notes to myself to NOT HIT THE SNOOZE BUTTON. I personally feel that the job I chose to pursue is a very important one and I need to make some lifestyle changes in order to be the best I can be. Among other things, I’m mainly working to improve my promptness as well as my collaborating skills, my overall attitude, dependability, and how I can better prepare myself.
My interest in Health Sciences started in 2013, my freshman year at Health Sciences High and Middle College (HSHMC). Prior to high school, I wasn’t sure what my passion is life was and every time someone would ask “What do you want to do when you grow up?” it was followed with a bow of the head and a shoulder shrug. As I moved into high school, I was offered an internship at SHARP Memorial Hospital and I decided that if I wanted to go into healthcare I would only know if I tried. My second internship at SHARP Mary Birch really started my love for health care and was the spark of a future career that I would make me smile when answering the aforementioned question. Health Occupations Students of America: Future Health Professionals has helped me work toward my goal in more ways than one.
Go outside ask any teenager what their greatest accomplishments are and I assure you some will respond with playing for their high school team, winning a championship, or many will not even know what it is. Yes I ran cross country for my sophomore year and had to opportunity to be varsity by junior year, played club and got third place our first year going in, but those are not my greatest achievements. Many teenagers do not have one, not because they do not do anything, but because most high schools do not offer great real life opportunities for their students.
From a young age I had a good idea of what I wanted to be when I grew up. (1) In elementary school I professed that one day I would become a doctor. At that time I had no idea what the career entailed but for some reason I have had my heart set on it ever since. I have always had the mentality for helping other people and it is a core value that I have maintained for as long as I can remember. I remember taking a career assesment during my middle school years that everyone was required to take. As everyone else wondered what their results would be, I had already known my own result. The assesment results told me that I should pursue a career in the medical field. This is something that not many people would be able to tell about
I feel like being an Health Administrator is the perfect job for me, because of what I've been through so far in my life. Growing up as a kid I enjoyed being athletic and competing against my peers in any sport events. I later on ran track and played basketball throughout my middle school and high school years. I had the opportunity to lead my track team in some events and it brought out a leadership trait I always had. Sadly, my senior years of track, I fell sick and experienced kidney failure and it was a very hard obstacle in my life. I'm Thankful that God pulled me through and showed me how important your health is. Now I eat more healthier and drink more water because of it. With that being said, being a healthcare administrator share everything I enjoy doing. I like to lead and make sure things are moving smoothly. I also enjoy helping people who are sick, nurse back to health
In the beginning, I wanted to become an elementary school teacher because I loved being around children. With children, I am particularly more patient and protective because I want them to feel safe. It was not until throughout middle school that I began to admire how teachers became role models for students. It was in my nature that I adored spending time with children; however, I saw that I did not have the same passion that teachers did towards education. At this point, I did not know many other career choices besides the careers I hear about the most, such as lawyers, doctors, firefighters, policemen, and more.
I am born and raised in Haiti. I came to the United State in 1996 and became a caregiver in 2001. I became a caregiver because I love people and use what I have to help or assist people
First, let me tell you a little about myself and my family, I am a wife of 19 years, and mother of five children, two adult children who have moved out of our home, and three very active teenagers still living at home. We also are privileged to have a 3 year old grandson. My husband recently left his full time job to pursue his passion for woodworking and focus on his growing home based business. We travel on weekends selling our wares at craft shows. We have had our ups and downs like any family, but we know God will see us through whatever comes our way. Two years a go, I left a job and position that I was unhappy in to start a new career at a health care facility. At first, I was scared as I had never dealt with insurances and HIPAA laws
As a nurse I feel that it is important to be able to account for ones actions. By doing this, I am able to learn from my mistakes if they are made, and able to show responsibility for my actions and why I felt that they were needed.
Most people think of a nurse as someone who takes care of someone who is sick, I believe a nurse is so much more than that. Going above and beyond for anyone that is in my care is what drives me to one day become a nurse. It’s not the type of job just anyone can do, it takes a very special person with a lot of compassion. It’s that type compassion that inspired me to become a nurse. When I was ten years old I was rushed to the emergency room.
One memorable day at Lincoln Northeast High School, I was walking in the halls when a student in front of me suddenly collapsed. He started shaking from head to toe. I froze for a few seconds which felt like an eternity, then I shouted for help. The kid continued to vigorously shake with saliva foaming from his mouth. At the time, I didn’t know that the student was experiencing a seizure. I just remember standing there, watching and not knowing what to do. I wanted to help but I did not know how. Time slowed down; I thought he would never stop shaking. After reflecting on what happened, I decided to pursue a career in the healthcare because I wanted to help people. I wanted to know what to do in situations like this. I hated standing there and not being able to do anything.
