High school is the time of your life where you can figure out where you plan to be in life. Some of my peers know exactly where they prefer to be and what they desire to do. Others are not sure of what they desire to do. Well, I happen to be one of those people, I may not be entirely sure of what I crave to do, but I certainly have goals for my future and have some interests. I have some interest in criminology, although I am not sure if I wish to head in that direction. It is an intriguing topic to me, it seems interesting to examine dead bodies and discover what killed them. Dissecting animals was not a massive downer for me, I actually enjoyed it and was interested in what I was looking at. I think it is unique to look at the animal’s insides and discover more about it. I, also do not become disgusted easily, so this is something that would not bother me at all. I, also have all kinds of values and goals in my life that I would like to pursue. As a career choice, I have criminology in mind and have a school choice to pursue criminology. Moreover, I value my family, my friends, and school in my life. My family is a massive factor since they have raised and have lived with me all my life. I have two younger siblings, making me the oldest child. As the oldest child, I am the guinea pig to my parents, meaning I am the first to attend high school, take college courses, and will be soon driving. My family has a dog named Daisy and she is a golden lab. She is super sweet and
As I make my way through the college experience, it is crucial that I take advantage of all opportunities available to me, especially within my desired field. Therefore, as a criminal justice major I would be most interested in becoming involved in activities such as when Lt. Ross Dillingham visited a victimology class. Lieutenant Ross Dillingham had the students look through unsolved homicide cases and provide their input. The students were able to review autopsy reports, crime scene photographs, police reports, and witness accounts that allowed them to have firsthand experience with the criminal justice system. Considering my desired career choice, a homicide detective or a forensic analysis, an experience such as this one would greatly benefit me. I would be able to learn the importance of thorough investigation and the need for accurate police reports.
Today our world is filled with crime. The people committing these crimes must have a consequence for their illegal actions. The system in place to keeping everything fair and safe is called the criminal justice system. This was put in place to ensure there is fairness and justice served to people who break the laws set up by the government.
I have always held a deep interest in pursuing a career in Sociology and Criminology as it holds a huge impact on people's lives and the society that we live in, so studying Sociology at A-level has allowed me to view society in a more critical and objective way. Covering crime and deviance in Sociology has enhanced my fascination in topics including punishment and the causes of crime such as ethnicity, gender and class. Having only studied Sociology at A-Level, my evaluation skills and social awareness have significantly improved due to looking at real world issues and forming my own opinions. Sociology has allowed me to get a deep insight as to why people behave in certain ways, and also helped me to understand different beliefs and identities as well as my own, enabling me
As we all know – there are tons of social issues within the entire world that Criminal Justice Practitioners deal with, most likely, on a daily basis. One of the many social issues I’ve chosen is Prison Overcrowding.
I am a thirteen year old girl and I am in eighth grade. My hobby is being active, because it helps clear my mind, and hanging out with my friends makes me extremely jubilant. My treasured physical fitness is soccer, it is my treasured athletic activity because me and my friends like to play all together. Also, my cherished animal is an English bulldog, because I used to have one, but then my grandpa didn’t want him so he threw him out. English bulldogs are my most favored because they like to be lazy and cuddle with you, but when you want to run he/she will run with you. I have a total of six siblings, but I only live with two of them, my twin brothers live with my mom, and my little sister lives with her dad. My parents are divorced and have
I would like to be readmitted to John Jay College of criminal justice for this up and coming Fall 2016 semester. I hope you will reconsider my dismissal and allow me to return to my school so that I may finally graduate with honors. When I attended John Jay my grades and coursework had fallen to a level that I would not consider to be my usual self, and I always held myself to standard of excellence when it comes to schoolwork.
Goals, goals, goals they're what people think about and how they are going to achieve them in the future. My three goal in life are to get in the college of my choice, go skydiving and to get a well paying job. These three goals are important to me because they are what I am likely to achieve within the next ten years. As I grow and blossom into someone big, someone bigger than who I am today I don’t mean just physically but bigger intellectually, and more capable. These goals show me that if I want to achieve them, then I have to work hard to accomplish them.
Life is a continual learning process, which requires a strong method to develop better ways of apprenticeship. Personally, being able to obtain a higher education gives me an opportunity to be better in many ways. Everyone should have any personal goals in life in order to survive, prosper and succeed in every journey that life gives. As for me, being a University of Phoenix student, I hope to achieve all of my goals on which I have been trying to pursue and obtain through the years. They are goals that I believe I need to have to be a successful member of the society, and through attending the university I also hope to gain a more positive image of myself, build my personal growth, along with achieving
This paper will describe my understanding of the text and of the lectures provided in the class. Unlike most classes, where I understood only my view of the text, this class was geared so each student would understand each other’s view. 3 An organization is a collective that has some boundary and internal structure that engages in activities related to some complex set of goals. Members of organizations attempt to meet their psychological, ego and emotional needs within the organization. Criminal justice organizations are particularly unique compared to other public or private sector organizations because of the governmental granted authority. Management within these organizations can be defined as the process by
There are many different career paths that make up the professional field of Law Enforcement in this country and around the world. It has been a dream of mine to be part something that is bigger than myself, that offers the opportunity to help the community I live in. To me, Law Enforcement offers me that chance. It is also the closest thing to the military that I believe will allow me to put to use what I have learned and experienced from my time in the U.S. Army. Finding the right fit for my skills and knowledge is a challenge that I look forward to. The research into the different fields of Law Enforcement provided me with a better sense of what I have to look forward to and what I believe to be the
Have you ever found out some information that you had been searching really hard to find? Did you get a sense of adrenaline when looking for it? Being a criminal investigator or special agent is the perfect career choice for someone who enjoys those things. Constant work that involves critical thinking and endless searching is something I really enjoy. When I find some information out it makes me happy that I could search that hard to find it by simply putting two and two together.
Have you ever wondered how police officers know who to arrest for a crime? Well in order to catch criminals, evidence and witnesses must be gathered. Those who perform these tasks are known as detectives. Detectives are also known as criminal investigators. I have always liked solving mysteries and, that is exactly what detectives or criminal investigators do. I was inspired to pursue this career by the television series “Law and Order: Special Victims Unit”. I watch this series a lot and, the show gave me a televised perception of what the career might be like. There are many risks when considering becoming a detective. However, the benefits and end results outweigh the risks and disadvantages of becoming a detective.
One of my academic goals is to get the best education possible at Allan Hancock College before I transfer. I will accomplish this by always paying attention to all my teachers and do all my work and most importantly make school my number one priority. Another academic goal that I have is to transfer to Cal Poly or Long Beach and obtain my Master’s degree in education. I also want to graduate with honor and with a 3.5 GPA or above. I decided that I wanted to be a teacher because I like helping people out and also I enjoy working with kids. I selected these goals because my economic background is not the great, most of the money that my family makes goes to the rent and daily expenses. We live in a small apartment and we are a family of five; we don’t usually go out and eat at restaurants only in special occasions.
As a child and even as a teenager one tends to make dreams and set goals for life. On occasion these goals are far stretched and sometimes even fairy-tale like, we tend to see life through a rose-colored glass, not taking into account the many sidetracks life throws our way. At that stage in life our goals tend to be less focused and somewhat unreachable. However, the process of growing up, or maturing, tends organized and center our goals, we learn to make compromises and set goals for our goals. There are different types of goals, short term and long term. I have learned to separate the many goals I have into three main categories: family, professional and personal.
Figuring out why people commit crimes is one of the central concerns of criminology. Do most criminals act rationally after weighing the costs of crime? Is society ever to blame for an individual to commit a crime? Do mental diseases or even genetics factor into whether a person will live a life of crime. Over the years, many people have developed theories to try to answer these questions. In fact, the number of theories of why people commit crimes sometimes seems to equal the number of criminologists. I explore these questions and much more in the paper that follow.
