Career shadow day was a great opportunity that made me question possible careers for myself. I shadowed Sean Spotts, an employee at Siemens Industry Inc. He is a Mechanical Engineer, or someone who applies physics and material science to design or maintenance of mechanical systems. Even though he is not in my goal career of architecture, through him, I got a glimpse of how mechanical engineering and architecture can go hand in hand. I shadowed him during a trade show on April 27th. After shadowing Sean Spotts and seeing his work life, I have come to the conclusion that architecture is more than just design, but also has components of engineering, a fact I am sound with.

As a developing and growing student, I realize that I need a plan for success, even though that plan may change. At Indiana University Bloomington, I plan to study in the School of Art and Design in order to eventually become an interior designer. While I may change my career choice and area of study, my drive and dedication to achieve excellence will never waver. However, that does not mean that I will not face challenges along the way.

Acquiring self satisfaction is my main goal in life, how I achieve it is by doing the things I enjoy and have a passion for. Deciding to study building surveying was made based on a few reasons that I believe can help me obtain self satisfaction in my studies and in my future endeavours. After recently becoming aware of Denver International Airport’s Great Hall Project, I was ecstatic upon learning about the Internship opening for the project. As a son of the Denver area I grew up admiring the airport’s architecture during visits and the airport continues to inspire me every time I fly to and from home from my university. These types of experiences have driven my career path for as long as I can remember and I aspire to one day use architecture/engineering to induce the same influence on one's experience. Attending USC is currently the first step in my career path and over this time I have gained theoretical knowledge, software competencies, and project design based experience. Architecture should reflect meaningfully all aspects of the society’s past-present-future. There is a need to introduce architecture that respects the environment, the people, and reflect the identity of the place.

After pursuing my Executive MBA in Marketing and Diploma in Designing, I created Decor De Jour, turning my passion into career. Today, I put my engineering, marketing, designing, management and sales background to work for my clients and delivering the designed products on time and on budget.

Given the level of experience I have accrued in my last 3 years both in Ghana and Uganda coupled with my strong academic achievement, I am confident that I have what it takes to carry out research and contribute effectively to the Civil Engineering Department of the North Dakota State University and subsequently match the academic standards set by the University.

Although architecture has no precise definition, it can range from being defined as an art, practice, or complexity of designing something, to being a challenging profession in itself. As I begin my journey on my way to becoming a practicing architect here in the state of Texas; my choices in education and institution are vital to my future success. It will determine how fast I will enter the work force, if I will be in debt to student loans and how it my occupation with benefit me in life. The required course work that is required, in addition to internships and registration exams; it all comes down to a total of 8.5 years. All internship hours can accumulate to as much as 3,740 hours according to the Nation Council of Architectural Registration Boards (NCARB). The chosen universities must meet the criteria for the National Architecture Accrediting Board (NAAB).

An architect plans, designs and construct structures. Architects can design many things like a shopping mall, a library, skyscrapers, and so much more. Architecture is a very interesting career that I would like to learn more about. I will be discussing why I chose to research this career and the different types of architects there are, the average annual salary an architect makes, what they do on a daily bases, how much education you need to be an architect, and the pros and cons about being an architect. Not only will I be discussing these topics, but I will also research what tools an architect uses, the best places for an architect to live at, and the top schools to get an architecture degree (Shapiro).
