How to Create a Strong Classroom Environment The fundamental purpose of our education system is to produce more creative, intelligent, and self-sufficient members of society. I believe that in order to achieve such goals it is essential to create a strong classroom environment in which students learn. A strong classroom consists of four major elements: health, respect, support, and challenge. There are various ways in which I would use my developmental knowledge to create a classroom environment that is healthy, respectful, supportive, and challenging for all types of students. There are two dimensions of a healthy classroom environment: physically and mentally/emotionally. I would use my developmental knowledge to create a classroom environment that is physically healthy by keeping the space as clean and organized as possible. I would also try to incorporate live plants that could serve as natural air filters. I could also possibly use an …show more content…
I would place great value on student contribution by speaking with the students and determining what they enjoy most and how to incorporate such elements into lesson plans. I would attempt to recognize the different social behaviors of students so that I do not put any students in uncomfortable situations such as having to speak or write a problem on the board in front of the entire class if they are very shy and introverted. At the same time, I would not allow the students that are shy and introverted to become disassociated with the rest of the class. I would work tiringly to ensure that they also have a say in classroom activities by encouraging them to speak up and speaking to them privately while others are
A healthy environment is essential for teacher and students. Cleaning objects, restrooms, and equipment promote a clean environment from debris and bacteria. Showing the students how to properly wash their hands and cleaning after themselves will encourage them to be healthier. Nutritional meals and snacks will influence them eat properly and healthier.
* Fresh air and light: This is very important for children to be healthy. When we take the children outside we are also giving them the opportunity to breathe in fresh oxygenated air which is essential for growing children and also giving them plenty of vitamin D from sunlight. Our class rooms are also very well ventilated and this ensures that the air is always circulating in and out of the class room and they all face an outside area to allow sunlight to enter the class room throughout the day. This is important because young children don’t yet know that they must cover their mouth when they cough to prevent germs from spreading (this is promoted though activities in class and also posters in the corridors). So if the air is well ventilated then germs are being reduced from spreading
I believe that each child is unique individual who needs a secure, caring, and stimulating atmosphere in which to grow and mature emotionally, intellectually, physically, and socially. It is my desire as an educator to help students meet their fullest potential in these areas by providing an environment that is safe, supports risk-taking, and invite a sharing of ideas. There are three elements that I believe are conducive to establishing such an environment namely, the teacher acting guide, allowing the child’s natural curiosity to direct his/her learning, promoting respect for all the things and all the people.
In my classroom, I would create a welcoming classroom environment. I would teach my students to accept diversity and respect differences because that is part of a learning community. I would also provide an environment in which all students can exhibit their potential to grow. My goal would be to maintain a personalized and open classroom which allows all students to learn at their own rate. I believe a stimulating environment that attends to the cognitive, emotional, social, and physical needs of all students should be provided as well. The curriculum should be varied to focus on different styles of learning and different paces. By differentiating instruction, gifted students can move through the mandatory content quickly and on to more complex
Being a student is not always easy. Most of the time students think they may succeed by an easy instructor or simply choosing an easy course just to get a good grade. I always lived with the mind set of overcoming my challenges, whatever it may take, easy or hard, I have to try and succeed. Going into depth about being a student and discussing the following: demonstration of my attitude and the environment of the classroom, attendance and punctuality, and supporting a positive learning environment.
I believe that creating a positive classroom climate is something that needs to be done at the beginning of the school year. If you start the school year off on a bad note then that will often set the tone for the rest of the school year. As the teacher of the classroom I need to have my expectations set for the class prior to them entering my classroom. Having this done before the students come will help to me be sure that I stick to what I expect from my class and not change it once they arrive. I will be sure to focus less on the testing and grading as Alfie Kohn suggests. This is important because if as their future teacher I spend too much time focusing on this it won’t make the students want to learn. As their teacher I need to figure
It is my strong belief that each child is entitled to a safe, secure, stimulating and caring learning environment. I always believed that each child is a unique individual with much curiosity and many academic, social and emotional needs. Children need our support in order to mature emotionally, intellectually, physically, and socially. As a teacher, one should aim to help students in fulfilling their dreams to become successful and educated individuals. We must provide them with a safe learning environment for their learning to succeed.
My classroom will be like the Elysian Fields to a fallen Greek soldier. Antecedent to the arrival of students I will subconsciously encourage relaxation, energy, joy, and boost cognitive functions using my classroom environment , I. e., blue, yellow, green and orange walls,a bubbling aquarium, and cinnamon, jasmine, vanilla, citrus, and peppermint aromas. Every student will learn a fun fact about all their classmates and if they need extra points they will tell me a fun fact about a student of my choosing. I will have knowledge of their behavior by daily observation, attaining personal information and I will make inquiries about the child previous night's activities when they enter my class. Negative
In a developmentally appropriate, well organized environment, children grow and learn. The teacher is responsible for creating a pleasing environment that reflects the needs and interests of the children. The classroom should be designed to promote self-help and independent behavior.
The teacher must know how to set the tone for the classroom and ensure that it is a productive learning environment. The teacher wants to avoid anything that would provoke them negatively as well as the students. At the same time, they must know what is needed to reinforce good behavior.
Patience, confidence, and respect -- these are qualities often found in successful leaders. As a tutor for young children and teens at Kumon Tutoring Center, I demonstrate these skills on a daily basis. I remain collected even when a fussy child does not; display self-assurance when asked questions by students and guardians alike; and understand that every child is trying their best no matter what pace they are progressing at.
Learning does not rely on only the teacher; the students must do their part as well. The students are to give the teacher their undivided attention at all time and they should be bold to ask questions when they need to do so. I always explain to my students, here inside the classroom is where you will make your mistakes and also fix them, so then I am here to help at all times. The students are to be punctual and attend as much classes as possible; they are also held accountable to complete all given assignments. I provide the resources need to my students and they are ones to make proper usages of the resource given to gain the knowledge that they need. Education is important to both teacher and students, so then it is both of our responsibilities to do our part as best as
There are many things needed to create an environment more conducive to learning for each student, some of which include:
As I connect back to my ontological commitment of transferring knowledge for the sake of building a foundation that can carry students through to graduation, I focus on how I can determine why I believe the classroom environment is critical to me. Perhaps it goes back to my positionality, where I truly believe that everyone has a right to learn and grow and that knowledge is the key to success in anything. As a lifelong learner, when I encountered difficulties transferring knowledge to students, I worked to develop intricate ways of teaching complicated material. In some instances, it meant changing the environment altogether, which is perhaps the reason I am a strong proponent for active learning classrooms.
Understanding the environment of a school is a very important part of teaching. A teacher should be aware of personal, community and cultural assets of students to meet them at their levels. Knowing what resources are in a community where a school is located and the living conditions your students are in should shape how you teach. The environment in the school is just as important as the environment at home. It needs to be welcoming and engaging for everyone who comes inside.
