I want to major in exercise physiology in order to later become a physical therapist. I’ve been asked so many times why I want to work in that field, and after a lot of considering I can’t give just one answer. I interned at Physical Therapy and Hand Specialists for a semester and I loved interacting with people everyday. I love learning about the human body and being able to help people. Everyday was a learning experience, but it never felt like work. I’m eager to major in exercise physiology, because it’s the first step in becoming a physical
Growing up, everyone dreamed of what they wanted to become when they got older. As kids people dreamed of becoming astronauts, princesses, or fictional characters. And as people get older, they have an idea of what they want to do for the rest of their lives such as become doctors, lawyers or police officers. Although there are many careers to choose from, but what is most important is picking a career one will be passionate about. One career option out there is physical therapy.
The exercise physiology degree program teaches physical wellness through kinesiology. This program places students in practicums with mentors, so students can gain in-depth insight into the profession. The curriculum includes standard movement sciences classes, such as biomechanics, human anatomy, exercise physiology and kinesthetic learning. Students go onto work in the fields of health promotion and commercial wellness. The personal training degree allows students to specialize in strength and conditioning. Graduates go on to become personal trainers at commercial fitness centers, with professional sports teams and as independent
As I have almost completed my sophomore year of college, I know what my career goals are at this point. I am currently on the physical therapy track planning to declare the major of exercise science: applied kinesiology. I became interested in PT after hearing many appealing things about it such as: the rapid growth and demand of physical therapists, the purpose it serves, and financial stability that comes along with the rewarding work. I am eager to learn about the functions, progress, and healing of the human body in the most natural manner, and through exercise science my knowledge in this study will certainly grow.
The job I plan on pursuing with kinesiology as my major is to become a physical therapist, which is also known as PT. Their main duty is helping patients rehabilitate with disabling injuries such as fractures, arthritis and low-back pain. Their duty is to help patients their relieve pain, increase mobility, and decrease long-term physical disabilities. Physical therapists focus on the evaluation of strength, balance, range of motion, co-ordination, endurance, and posture of each individual patient. Their patients can range from different age groups from infants to grandparents. The age group would provide a variety of therapeutic exercises for each of the health issues they would have. Depending
My decision to become a physical therapist really started at the end of my first application cycle. Waiting for any form of notification eagerly, hands shacking, heart pounding, and mind racing imposed fear into my life that the dream of becoming a physical therapist was not actually going to happen. Receiving one of these notification, caused a panic especially when the words, “I regret to inform you..” appeared on the page. In attempts to change the frame of mind I was in, I did anything, but I could not seem to escape the feelings of anxiety over being held back from what I wanted to do for a career the rest of my life. During that moment, something happened. The fear, stress, and anxiety were all negative feelings, but I knew I cared about this field that strongly that I would become worked out to the point I thought my life was over.
Becoming a Physical Therapist is not a easy job but in my opinion it is a good career choice. If I wanted to work in a field of science I would consider this as a choice because not only is it a well paying job you are helping people get better and basically trying to put their body parts back in use.
I started attending the University of South Alabama in 2013 after I graduated from SUSCC in May of 2013. I really do not know why but I always wanted to attend South Alabama, maybe because I heard a lot of good things about it. I am from a small town so moving away was good for me. My first attention was to become a physical therapist when I started at South but I ended up changing my major to Exercise Science. I met with my advisor at the time before fall classes started and decided to change my major. It needed to be changed because I was told I would have to do at least two more years. After finding that out I felt it was pointless to continue exercise science and do something in a major that I would still enjoy. I met with my advisor and felt more confident about my decision. This major varies so I will be able to deal with something dealing with sports or children.
“Make no small plans for they have no power to stir the soul.” I came across this incredible quote in middle school and have adopted it as my personal motto. However, being a big dreamer is not enough. As I got older, I realized that dreams must be constructed into goals in order to be achieved through hard work and dedication. Several experiences have materialized in my life that I believe make me well fitting for a career in physical therapy: a passion to learn, a strong desire to share knowledge, and foremost an immense yearning for helping others to improve their lives.
I believe that my motivation for improving and strengthening human health, enhanced with the knowledge I will gain in the Exercise Science program, will advance me into an excellent Physical Therapy school. The Exercise Science program will expose me to the responsibilities and skills needed to become successful and confident in my work. Achieving a well educated degree in Kinesiology will enable me to live my passion as Physical Therapist. At the age of 6, I began a career as a competitive gymnast. Training started out at 15 hours per week, year round, then progressed to 20 hours per week.
I chose to write my career paper on becoming a Physical Therapist. I’ve always loved how the human body attempts to heal itself due to injury. I’ve always been amazed at how the way the body works and how each organ contributes to the other. Nothing in the human body is without function each part has a specific role to play. I like to think of it as a chain reaction, when one part of the body reacts to something there’s always going to be another organ or muscles etc., to follow. There are so many things to learn about the human anatomy it’s like there is no end to it, it’s like you always have to keep up with it becomes it is always evolving and changing there is always going to be something happening in the human physiology of the body. It’s funny how you never noticed how important your body is; for the most part we take it for granted. We are constantly doing our bodies’ constant harm whether it’s eating the wrong food or not exercising correctly, or if we exercise at all for that matter. We think just because we are young and that we can’t feel or see the damage that is being done to our bodies every second and minute of the day shows that we’re fine. However, in the long run we are soon going to feel and wished we had done something different. Although, it’s not all about eating, you also have to get the proper rest to be able to function correctly every day. That allows us to recharge for the upcoming day so when we as individuals don’t get the right amount of rest
Some say that PT stands for physical therapist; others might say that it stands for physical terrorists. People who say it stands for physical terrorists are usually the people who have been patients before. Patients call it physical terror because in physical therapy you use different exercises that usually will make the area that they are doing the therapy for hurt in order to help it recover to its full range of motion. The career I want to pursue is physical therapy, in order to understand this profession you need to learn about the work environment, education needed, earnings, outlook, and the pros and cons of this career.
When deciding on what major I wanted to choose, I knew Exercise Science was the best fit for me. Exercise Science is the best fit for me because it is a combination of the two things that I love doing,
For a while now, I have been interested in the medical field. I’ve always had an interest in science and just the way of how things are the way they are. The career choice of physical therapy has caught my attention, because it seems like a decent career, with good pay, also I have a personal experience with athletic injuries. Over those years, I’ve developed an interest to help athletes and everyday people with their pains. I believe that I would be successful by choosing this career path, because to be a quality therapist, one has to have patience. Injuries take time to overcome, and then the time it takes to redevelop that area. Therapy is a physical, as well as mental process. You have to progressively work with the patients throughout
A degree in human biology qualifies a person for a variety of jobs. This degree provides a foundation to pursue veterinary, dental, or medical school paths, in addition to positions in research and development, laboratory testing, instruction, production, and quality control. Human biology provides a broad base from which to draw upon. The occupation that interests me the most is physical therapy. Physical therapy interested me ever since I began getting involved in gyms. My first encounter with a trainer at a gym was when I got trained for an hour for a baseball camp to help protect your rotator cuff, that was the moment I realized I wouldn’t mind having a job similar to what the trainer had. I wanted a job where I could help people
Coming to Rutgers University I knew that my major interest would be in Exercise Science and Medicine. One of the reasons I wanted to major in Exercise Science was because of my intentions to become a Physical Therapist. The course work of the Exercise Science programs entails a strong understanding of functional human anatomy, kinesiology, and human physiology, which are all relevant coursework for Physical Therapy school. One major benefit of this major is the senior internship that all students have to find in order to graduate with a B.S. Secondly, another major that interests me but is underrepresented is Nutrition. Ever since I started being conscious about my health and what foods are essential, I found nutritional science profoundly interesting. Nutrition encompasses strong background knowledge in biochemical, physiological, and behavioral processes. This major gives students many marketable opportunities in medicine, dietetics, and clinical research. Finally, the third major that I would consider is Molecular Biology and Biochemistry. This major encompasses many principles of the biological systems as well as supplementing knowledge from Biology, Chemistry, and Physics. The spectrum of careers and applications of this major include research in biotechnology and genetic engineering.
