When calling my doctors office to make an appointment I already have many expectations running through my head. As I finish up my practicum hours this week, I am amazed at how everything has come full circle. As someone who came into college with no clue of what I wanted to do after graduation, I found that the Office of Student Engagement allowed me to develop as a person and figure out the things that are most important to me. As I started to get more involved on-campus and take on more leadership roles, I started to gain an interest in working in the field of higher education in hopes to provide this same experience to other college students. By having the opportunity to work with Patrick Dezort, the Director of Student Development and Engagement at Felician University, as part of my Field Practicum in Psychology course, I was hoping to get
This position allowed me to assist incoming students and help them to take control of their education and obtain the careers that they had set for themselves. During my enrollment at the University of Houston (2011) , I
The medical occupation such as doctor or physician assistance (PA) is a respectable career, but certainly not an easy job. It is a pressure cooker dealing with difficult patients’ demands, filling out mundane paperwork, and making numerous phone calls to the insurance company. Additionally, they must maintain the patient quota and satisfaction scores mandated by the workplace as well as adhere to the ever-changing, complex healthcare law and regulations. However, these adversities do not deter me from my aspiration to become a PA. I want to belong to a team of talented, selfless, and dedicated people that fight for patient’s lives on a daily basis. I long to have the opportunity to spend quality time with my patients and ease their concerns. Helping people getting better and the community getting healthier is my ultimate goal for becoming a PA.
My time at the University of Georgia has allowed me the opportunity to gain many skills and a better understanding of others by working amongst many individuals. For example, as a Resident Assistant for two years, I provided support for my residents and I understood the importance of developing relationship with them. Being a Resident Assistant prepared me to think quickly while remaining calm and professional, as I had to deal with many emergencies. This position also prepared me to handle conflicts and communicate with concerned parents about their child. The experience as a Resident Assistant also brought out a creative side. With decorating my hall and bulletin boards and creating programs to grab resident’s attention, outside of providing food, I had to think outside the box and become very resourceful. In addition to these experiences, I was a mentor to a first year student under the organization B.E.S.T., where I assisted my mentee with questions about their classes and college experience.
Based on conversations with a number of physicians, I decided that it would be best for me to gain more experience working directly with patients prior to beginning medical school. Therefore, I obtained my EMT certification and began working and volunteering in a number of different cities. Each shift, I respond to a number of calls ranging from transporting patients and providing emergency care to the sick and injured. I identify and treat the patients concerns and relay important patient information to physicians and nurses. I am developing clinical intuition, learning the necessity of teamwork in medical settings, and am gaining experience being the primary care provider. As each paramedic, nurse, and doctor has their own style and
My passion for teaching others has led me to ask many questions to my professors and tutors throughout my journey. I know that I will continue asking questions because we will always learn something new every day. That is why even though I have an undeniable passion for language, I would love to have the opportunity to learn what public health really is and how it benefits us as individuals. I currently work in a surgical center called Shammas Eye Medical Center as a medical assistant. I have learned through the various physicians and surgeons the importance of educating patients on prevention and management. Dr. John Shammas, head Surgeon of our facilities and a professor at the University of Southern California has taught its staff the value
My interest in the law grew exponentially as I moved through the History program at Saint Joseph’s University. From the dynasties of China to the French Revolution, the law influenced the way in which nation’s citizens interacted with their government and one another. During a trip to China with my university, I was able to see first-hand how different laws affect citizens daily lives. After this experience in a starkly different system of government, I was particularly drawn to United States law and the structure of our Constitution. American idealism has played into its structure, and continues to reflect in all aspects of the law such as business law and criminal law. In light of my interest in this subject, the following will address my
I am an artistic, imaginative and enterprising goal-oriented individual who is driven to succeed. I precisely was a (PCA) Personal Care Assistant, I have been watching and caring for my 8-year-old nephew for the past 5 years as well as some other babysitter jobs. I interreacted on a daily basis with my nephew and brother who is 13-year-old. Cooking for and cleaning after has been a daily experience for me. They both love having my help with their homework while stimulating them intellectually. They are probably not many games I haven't played with them. I absolutely love caring and playing with children due to my ability to relate to them on their level and use that to my advantage. My brother has some special needs, it has always presented
I am highly interested in the Registered Nurse opening in Medical Surgical Unit now available at Reading Health System. I will be graduating in July 2016, and taking the NCLEX August 2nd, 2016. My mother, the person who gave me everything she had to offer at a moment's notice. Her needs and dreams, at one point firmly desired were set aside for my well-being. Countless years and precious time given to my siblings and me for our development into young adults. The feeling of debt is vast and with that the idea of giving my mother another opportunity towards her absent dreams seemed wise. My decision of enrolling my mother as a student at delta college has restored her hopes and a smile which noticeably displays it. Brief elated moments from my mother are more than satisfactory for me and my family. Her arrival from school is always interesting when she conveys the information she reviewed in class. Now that I am progressing as a student along with my mother the support I can provide is invaluable. I’m incapable of offering her what was given to me but the pursuit of her own education alongside her children is a good start I believe. As we continue the pursuit for our goals together, reaching and achieving them will have that much more meaning. To become a preschool teacher or an assistant is the thought my mother has held in her mind for some time. Being able to achieve my goal of becoming an Electrical Engineer as well as my sister’s major of Nursing alongside her would mean everything to her. In the end the debt my siblings and I owe is too great and the things we do can’t begin to describe how much we appreciate what she’s done for us.
Not only was I a mentor to others in every campus position, but I was also the mentee being mentored by professionals. And from this, I know firsthand how transformative these interactions with student affairs professionals can be for students like me. I was empowered and positively impacted by my co-curricular college experience, and I strongly believe that any student who wants this opportunity should deserve it.
I supervise and train four full-time employees, a graduate assistant, and additional occasional service staff employees. Both daily operations and strategic planning of the office in relation to the campus community are my responsibilities. I am charged with maintaining the accuracy and confidentiality of all student academic records and supervising the release of official academic transcripts, unofficial transcripts, and certification letters. I ensure compliance and appropriate implementation of the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) in the Registrar’s Office.
