Dear, Dr. MacDonald
The reason I have chosen to pursue a physical education teacher career is that at a very young age I have always been into sports and staying active. Throughout my childhood education I always looked up to my teachers and coaches that I had. As I got older and into high school I began to get into learning more about physical education through my football coaches who were physical educators I watched how they were teaching lessons to classes and how they interacted with the students. A few of my family members are teachers but none of them are physical educators and I am looking to become the first one to do so. I would also like to get into coaching sports because I have a passion for sports and I like the comradery that
The profession that I am interested in is an Athletic Trainer. I have chosen this career because it is something that I have recently become passionate about within the last two years. I have never been the kind of person to struggle with weight, however after having my 3rd and last child, weight has become an issue. I mention my personal struggle to give insight on why I have chosen an Athletic Trainer. This profession’s main goal is physical fitness. As a trainer you become responsible for another person’s physical active lifestyle. Assisting clients from injury to recovery, evaluating their bodies and advising the individual what is best. Athletic Trainers has many responsibilities. AT’s are professionals in the health care world who mainly caters to athletes. An AT however isn’t limited to just athletes. They work with just about anyone. Ages ranging from a child to an adult. Different skill and jobs, people such as soldiers, high school athletes, and professional athletes.
Through my experience with sports, particularly volleyball, I always knew I wanted to work with athletes, like myself. My ideal post-graduate job would be an athletic trainer. The dream is to work at the training booths at sports tournaments and camps helping athletes with minor injuries. My decision to become an athletic trainer has stemmed from my desire to remain in the sports world long after my college volleyball career is has completed. I have always been strong in Science and Mathematics, I am so glad that I was able to finally pick a major based on my athlete’s schedule, career goals, and academic strengths. Along with athletic training, I want to be a coach. Not only do I want to be a coach, but a phenomenal coach; someone that
Throughout my years I have changed what I wanted to do with my future over and over again. When I was young I wanted to be a doctor. Then, once I got a little older, I wanted to become a professional athlete. Soon after that I decided I was going to be a nurse, soon after that I wanted to become a teacher, and even after both of those I thought I was going to be a psychologist. It wasn't until I was a senior in high school that I realized that I could make a living doing a combination of almost all of those while working with something I loved my entire life. I could coach sports. Using the Bureau of Labor Statistics Outlook Handbook, I was able to understand what kind of salary to expect my first year full-time coaching, how many opportunities there would be in this field in the future, and if I would need any additional education to pursue those opportunities.
I have chosen to study athletic training because it allows me to still participate and be involved in sports as well as be able to help athletes recover from injuries while gaining valuable clinical experience for physical therapy. Growing up I have always had a love for sports but I have not been graced with the abilities to become a professional athlete. With my love for sports as a youth I watched a lot on television with my father and I would see athletes get injured and medical personnel rush out to their aid. When I found out they were athletic trainers and physical therapists, I knew that is what I wanted to do when I grew up. All throughout high school I was involved in sports and unfortunately had an injury or two. Although our school did not have an athletic trainer, I went to many different specialists and
I am interested in the profession of athletic training because this profession would allow me to work with athletes to help them recover so they could continue their passion in sports. During my first year in college I wanted to become physical therapist because I would like to use science to develop exercises to treat injuries. My first time seeing an athletic trainer working was during my tryout with the Chicago Fire Soccer team. Seeing the athletic trainer running around helping players in need by using medical science to evaluate injuries encouraged me to seek a profession in medical field that involves working with athletes. What motivated me the most to pursue athletic training is the importunity to help people in need because that
The mission of high quality elementary education is to help children develop and mature into successful and highly functioning learners by teaching the basics of education, healthy learning habits, and skills needed for everyday life; including social, mental, and physical knowledge. School should help students in all aspects of their lives. The mission along with being for the whole classroom, is for each individual and should adapt to their needs and learning level they are at. I used to be a math tutor, and each individual was at a different level with the material and comprehension. Each person has their own speed for learning and understanding. Also, not only do students need to be taught academic skills and knowledge, they also need to
I would like to pursue my career after high school to become an Athletic Trainer. The reason I want to become a trainer is to stay near the sports field because I wanted to be a professional athlete but I noticed that wasn’t going to work because I never had the time to stay in sports. I love playing and watching sports, I prefer helping with basketball players and track and field athletes but wherever I can pursue the career , I’m fine with it.
The job I plan on pursuing with kinesiology as my major is to become a physical therapist, which is also known as PT. Their main duty is helping patients rehabilitate with disabling injuries such as fractures, arthritis and low-back pain. Their duty is to help patients their relieve pain, increase mobility, and decrease long-term physical disabilities. Physical therapists focus on the evaluation of strength, balance, range of motion, co-ordination, endurance, and posture of each individual patient. Their patients can range from different age groups from infants to grandparents. The age group would provide a variety of therapeutic exercises for each of the health issues they would have. Depending
Everyone feels good about themselves when they help someone accomplish something. I feel overwhelmed with joy when I help people. Becoming a physical therapist assistant (pta) will allow me to feel that kind of happiness. Whereas I want to become a physical therapist assistant so I can help people, a physical therapist assistant is the perfect career for me given that physical therapy will always be needed. This career will allow me to interact with patients and learn about them. I will help patients regain their movement and manage pain whether it was from surgery or a type of illness. The schooling will be tough, but the end will be worth it.

Ever sense I was a young girl I’ve been really into physical activities. At the age of five I started skating and instantly fell in-love. At the age of six my dad enrolled me into hockey, and from that point on my life has never been the same. I’ve had numerous opportunities in sports such as: winning gold and silver for U18 Team Canada hockey, and getting a scholarship to Wisconsin University to play on the women’s hockey team. Although these moments are surreal, it is not only the moments that I remember but the mentors and teachers that I have been fortunate to meet along the way. These coaches have not only taught me the game but have also taught me life values such as: teamwork, leadership, discipline, time management and much more. Without hockey, and sports in general I don’t know where I would be today, but I do know one thing and that is without sports I wouldn’t have met all the amazing people that helped guided me towards wanting to become a physical education teacher. Sports have always been a huge part of my life, and I am blessed to have sports guide me through life. Thus, I want to become a teacher to help kids have the same opportunities that I had growing up.
Growing up, I’ve always been athletic. I’ve always loved the way the atmosphere and competitiveness of a sports game just completely engulfs me and takes me captive. I’ve fallen in love with the game and how it can make me drown in emotion. I hope to be around this type of atmosphere for as long as I can, that’s the reason I dream of becoming an athletic trainer or physical therapist. I believe in myself and I yield the faith that I can make it to that level. Albeit there isn’t a single prognostic sign that this is true in any form, but that’s what faith is, right? An intense belief in the unseen and unknown.
I think it is great that there are careers that you can pursue that you have a lot of interest in. You have to pick a job that you will be happy in. I think that physical education teachers make a difference in kids lives and the teacher makes an impression on them as far as fitness. Some values that I care about are accomplishment, fitness, and love for what you do life. All of my values can tie into my career choice which is physical education. Physical education is all about fitness and motivating kids to be physically active and do their best. You need to have a passion for your job and what you do so you can be fulfilled at your job. Accomplishments mean that you have done something meaningful in your life and you have been successful. I
Teaching is one of the most important careers that help advance a society. Teachers are important because they are responsible for passing along knowledge from generation to generation. Early Americans made education one of the most important aspects of society when this nation was founded. Formal education has been around thousands of years, but the modern education system in place now originated in the early 20th century. The progressive era in education took place from the 1890s to the 1930s. This era brought about dramatic expansions in the number of schools in the U.S. By 1940, nearly half of young adults were earning a high school diploma (Costrel). One specific type of teacher in a physical education teacher. A physical education teacher holds a big responsibility within the school. They are in charge of keeping the students healthy. P.E. teachers have to have exercise and fun blended into one class. A physical education teacher is a strong career choice because of the pay and benefits, the teamwork aspect, and the sense of self-satisfaction one gets from the career.
I interviewed Larry Becker, one of my high school football coaches and also PE teacher, to see what he thought were the major concerns and dilemmas facing Physical Education. I talked to him about going into Physical Education as my major because I want to be a coach. He said probably the biggest misconception is that people go into Physical Education to be a coach or just a PE teacher and they do not really realize that not too
