What I want to Accomplish at Stanford
1. Learn more about myself: I grew up speaking only Mandarin in my family, so when I entered elementary school, I became known as the lonely girl who didn't know anything. I hated that title, so I did everything in my power to change it; I studied until I rose to the top of my class and I wore whatever was deemed popular. I was conditioned to be the epitome of a "perfect student." Recently, I realized that I'm completely locked in to this stereotype. I'm hoping that being at Stanford, around people I don't know, will give me a fresh start.
2. Figure out what I want to do as an occupation: Even now, I still am not sure what I want to major in and what job to pursue. Maybe at a school where the options
Hello, I am Kelly Conley and I have recently enrolled at Boise State University (BSU) as a sophomore. My goal at BSU is to earn a Bachelors degree in Elementary Education with an emphasis on history and graduate by 2018. I have recently retired from the United States Air Force (USAF) after 24 years of service. My hobbies include white water rafting, gardening, and spending time with my wife of 16 years, Heather.
When I first came to Mercer I really wanted to become a pediatric oncologist or a general practitioner. I changed my mind a couple times during my pre-college and freshman year on whether or not I wanted to be a different kind of doctor. However, I never really thought I would end up undeclared in my sophomore year. My whole high school life was spent navigating the medical pathway and joining clubs like HOSA (Healthcare Occupation Students of America). I even did well in these classes and clubs, winning honors at the state and national level for EMT and Kaiser Permanente testing. During my sophomore year, things changed because I dropped chemistry after having an uninspiring teacher and after
Everyone has something that drives them to succeed every day. Some people feel a need to compete with others around them while others feel they need to make their families proud. For me there are two major factors that encourages me to try my best. One is to show my parents that everything they have done for me has not been a waste and the other is my curiosity.
My goals at Appalachian State University are to gain education needed to become a superior leader and gain knowledge about other communities and groups of people. While at Appalachian State, I plan on pursuing a degree in Management with hopes of becoming a community leader in the future. Management will help me meet new people and explore how others think outside of Randolph County. It is essential to broaden your horizons and develop interpersonal skills to become successful in the future. I feel like a University such as Appalachian State is an exemplary institution for learning about management, the way others ruminate, and meeting new peers and sharing ideas. Appalachian’s diverse community will prepare me for a career in management and success in the future by enabling me to express my ideas and learn about others as well.
Rutgers University would dramatically help me achieve my personal and educational goals. I am currently a sophomore at Gloucester County College with a dream of starting my own business. I will be the first in my family to obtain a bachelor’s degree. Receiving a degree would be a huge milestone in my family and I would be setting a good example to the rest of my family. I originally applied to Rutgers when I was a senior in high school and I was ecstatic about my acceptance, but I had a personal issue that ultimately changed my plan for college. Unfortunately, I had no idea Rutgers had online degrees, so I turned to community colleges that offered online degrees as a quick solution in order to still attend college that fall. I am planning
When going into the 5th grade, I would drive by kipp every single day. Every time I would drive by, I would constantly tell my mom that I wanted to attend kipp my 5th grade year. When I got accepted into kipp, I was so excited. At the age of 10, I was being introduced to college. My very first homeroom was Brown University. Kipp pushed students to want to attend college to better their futures. I stayed in kipp from 5th-12th grade. Those years in kipp, we went on plenty of college tours so that the students could get a feeling of how college is. In high school when preparing for college, kipp offered so much help when it came down to ACT prep and also preparing for college interviews. Kipp offers plenty of support, they want to see their students shine. For instance, in my 12th
To be honest, I am not really sure what profession I want to pursue after college. I would actually like to try many different things in hopes of finding a career that matters to me personally and that is why I am drawn to the idea of a liberal arts education. I am drawn to the schools peaceful surrounding community and its motivation to instill a sense of civic duty. When I visited Bates over the summer I was intrigued by the campus and the students that were still there. The serene nature of Maine was another one of the factors that interested me. I was in awe at how tightly connected the alumni was to the school and how all of the students were treated the same. The idea that no one will slip through the cracks and that the teachers and
The significant academic challenge I have faced, is my learning disability. in all my life I have this challenge, and I can’t run from these struggles. The struggles are from reading to math, and from math going into memory issues that I have to struggle with all my life.
I’m a student from Patton Elementary in Garden Grove, California. If the college of Cal Berkeley will accept me when I get older, I would finally completed my lifelong dream.
I want to improve my current piano playing skills by advancing at least two levels and be confident in playing in front of a large audience.
When I was going to high school I was thinking of going to college to finish my schooling and to say I had finish my school and to have my adulterous of me. Before my mom died she wanted me to finish my schooling because she didn't wanted me to end like my mom and dad without a college diploma or degree. I wanted to join Colorado Christian College because I do go to church on Sunday's and Wednesday's and I wanted to have a degree that will help me with my goals for the feature. My goal is to get a degree and have my mom's last wish when I went to the hospital. I wanted to go to college to finish my degree because someday I would like to have kids and they will say my mom did college I can. I actually wanted my church and family and friends
When I was younger I never thought I would be where I am today. Through life’s challenges I have come to realize that I can do anything I set my mind to. I continue to grow everyday as a person, because “I want to be better than I was the day before.” This is my mission statement for life.
Reflecting on this week’s discussion topic, I considered the areas where I believe I will be successful as a graduate student. The first area that I believe I will be successful is my commitment and dedication to my studies in pursuit of a graduate degree. At 49 years old, I understood the commitment level required to pursue a graduate degree while also maintaining a full-time job and military obligations. I committed. I have dedicated time and resources to achieve that goal. Another area that I will be successful in is the areas of discipline and flexibility. Discipline to follow my time management plan to balance all my obligations, and flexibility to adjust to unforeseen events throughout my studies. Additionally, ensuring that I
Instilled since childhood, we were all taught to pursue a college education. When asked about attending a postsecondary school or program, the hands of each student would shoot upwards into the air as if their dreams were already in reach. In fact, many students consider a college education worth the time, money, and energy since in the long run, the effort will pay off in the form of higher salaries, steadier careers, and an overall healthier standard of living. However, though I believe attending a college is important for all the same reasons, I also consider universities to have much more to offer than the amount my paycheck has to offer each week. Completing a postsecondary program is an opportunity that can provide the resources never
One of my academic goals is to get the best education possible at Allan Hancock College before I transfer. I will accomplish this by always paying attention to all my teachers and do all my work and most importantly make school my number one priority. Another academic goal that I have is to transfer to Cal Poly or Long Beach and obtain my Master’s degree in education. I also want to graduate with honor and with a 3.5 GPA or above. I decided that I wanted to be a teacher because I like helping people out and also I enjoy working with kids. I selected these goals because my economic background is not the great, most of the money that my family makes goes to the rent and daily expenses. We live in a small apartment and we are a family of five; we don’t usually go out and eat at restaurants only in special occasions.
